Who would have thought that . . . (1 Viewer)

even more impressive is that increasingly i've been hearing NFL observers & commentators stating that while there are likely better pure receivers at the TE position (gates, t-gon, possibly winslow come to mind), he is probably the best TE in the NFL in terms of being a COMPLETE player, blocking included.

one big advantage witten has this season over gates is that, while he doesn't have LT to distract opposing defenses (the JJ/barber tandem, & increasingly just barber, have been very good), the QB play of romo has been far superior to rivers, & the chargers don't really have a WR comparable to TO (though the in-season acquisition of chambers made them better)... than again, that last point can be a two-edged sword... often it seems like the best TEs come from teams WITHOUT good WRs. but clearly THIS season, TO has helped witten... he is assured of virtually never being double covered, & LBs just can't handle him, he is too athletic & versatile... almost gates-like, as it were...

Tight end? With Gates doing next to nothing 2 of the past 3 weeks, Witten is currently the #1 TE through 14 games.
Surprised he wasn't before now. I've watched every Dallas game as a Romo owner, and Witten is an absolute beast. Uncoverable.

He seems to be the number 1 read on all plays except for when Romo forces a few to TO...
