Whos benching Brees this week vs. Pitts Def? (1 Viewer)

...oh and the fact that its the Steelers defense.

So who has the ball to bench Brees? The Pitt secondary aint the greatest, but neither was the Browns.

I am seriously deciding on him, or anyone who dont play the Steelers.

I needed to start Henne last week against Pitt with Peyton on a bye and ended up watching the whole game. Henne looked pretty solid, the D is good but it's not perfect, there were opportunities that a better QB would have taken advantage of. You need to have a really good option to be benching Brees.

not me. I would guess they won't score much on the ground so it will have to be through the air. Sunday night at home after a loss - I think Brees has a nice game. 250 & 2/3 TD's.

I dont think the Saints are going to lay down on national TV at home on Halloween night against any defense in this league. The Saints have beaten themselves and they could do it again I suppose but I have a feeling they will play very respectable against the Steelers in a high scoring contest. I could be wrong but I doubt it. I guess if you have better options bench a stud like Brees and then come back on this thread after the game and tell us how it worked out for you.

I also have Big Ben who's playing lights out while Brees has struggled lately. I think Ben is the safer choice.

Oddly enough, I have to choose between Brees and Roethlisberger in this one. I feel like it's a toss-up ... but if I stepped away and took off the homer glasses, I'd reflect on starting a QB against a reeling Saints team with a VERY banged-up secondary and LB corps (top 3 CBs and both starting OLBs).

I think that may be a possibility but watch the status of Tracy Porter, If he is back the legend killer might need some new trophies for his wall. I also think the Steelers will try to play against New Orleans weakness in the ground game which may be less opportunity for Big Ben and more for Mendy.

Halloween.

In New Orleans.

At Night.

Desperate game for the Saints with playoff implications.

Consult your Voodoo Priestess for instructions on who to start.

It will be a WILD ONE.

Seriously.

I agree that is certainly a possibility but I did say safer pick, not upside pick. Funny your comment about using Mendy more but since Ben came back they have not toned down the passing game and leaned on the run which I thought was likely given his games off and being rusty. I can't find a real compelling reason to start Brees over Ben this week and I very well could be wrong but last weeks Browns game, no Bush or P.T. this week, and the Steelers D which is better than Cleveland's D tells me Ben is the way to go this week. Now please talk me out of it.Thanks for the Porter tip.

Just read this: RB Rashard Mendenhall ran tentative because of a bruised shoulder. If he continues to be bothered by it look for Mewelde Moore to get more playing time. Steelers RapidReports Looks like another reason to start Ben.

I think you will be alright with Ben or Brees in this game for FF purposes. Both are going to put up points. Its a win win. Too bad you cant start both.

Update: I just read Greer is on the injury report as well as Porter. The Saints will likely be without their top 3 corners on Sunday night. If that is the case I would start Ben and I am a Saints homer.

Steelers are missing Aaron Smith and the other starting DE is hobbled. Lamarr Woodley missed time with a hamstring last week. Steelers have secondary issues that can be exposed if a QB has time.

I wouldnt be too worried about Brees based on last week's performance, Fujita was relaying signals to the coaches based on the Saints sub packages and the Browns were adjusting based on that - that's why it looked like they were in his head at times.

Start Brees with confidence

Excellent point on the bolded. Aaron Smith is a huge factor as a DE in the Steelers 3-4. Check out the reaction in the Official Steelers thread from the die hard fans to news of the loss of Smith, starting here.I am quite fond of a Steelers' fan blog, Post Game Heroes. PGH has a couple of excellent posts re: the pass defense and the effectiveness of Aaron Smith against the Titans earlier this season.

A couple of the blog's writers can go over the top, but they post transcripts to Tomlin's weekly presser in a timely manner and their video breakdowns are quite good. A fanhouse writer (and journalism student) got canned for copying the bloggers work entirely and trying to pass it off as his own a few weeks ago.

I own Brees and M. Ryan, so I am going with Brees, but I am also a Steelers fan that isn't going to run to waivers for a QB just because of the matchup this week.

Hope the links help in your decision making.

Colt McCoy through the ball well against the Steelers.

Pass D is their achilles heel.

If I was Sean Peyton, I would go shotgun/sugar huddle the whole game and run screens, draws & a lot of crossing routes underneath.

I expect Brees to have a very good night and Lance Moore to be his primary target.

I don't see any way that you could bench Brees. They are going to be desperate for a win and I think the game will be a shootout as well. Even when the Saints play poorly, Brees still seems to find a way to put up decent numbers.

Brees ended up salvaging a pretty nice game out of it all, considering the opponent. Everyone from posts #15 to 19 nailed it.

The real mystery is what happened with the Steelers' passing game. I know Darren Sharper was back, but I was expecting the Steelers to sling the ball up and down the field at will.
