Who's Picking 9th This Year? (1 Viewer)

Drafted ninth in a 12 team basic scoring league:

1.9 Clinton Portis (over Steven Jackson - I took a gamble)

2.4 Steve Smith

3.9 Randy Moss

4.4 Deshaun Foster

5.9 Todd Heap

6.4 Ahman Green

7.9 DeAngelo Williams

8.4 Kurt Warner

9.9 Michael Clayton

10.4 Varrand Morrency

11.9 Brett Favre

12.4 Aaron Brooks

13.9 Matt Leinart

14. 4 Ron Dayne

15.9 Adam Vinatieri

16.4 Hank Baskett

17.9 Santonio Holmes

18.4 Bengals DT

19.9 Brian Calhoun

20.4 Chad Jackson

Overall, I like my team's potential upside. I figured picking ninth, I needed to go for a boom or bust team to have a shot against the top three. Therefore, that's what made me decide to take Portis over SJax, Moss over a RB (not much there, Jamal Lewis may have been the best choice), and overpay early for Leinart and Williams. I was ecstatic with Heap in the fifth and figure the ARI QB combo will get me enough points. I guess my draft shows an example of big upside, high risk talent available at the slot.

Looking back I easily could have went:

SJax

Westbrook or Manning

Moss

etc.

I took Carnell Williams 9th, passed on both Edge and Portis. No regrets what so ever.

My RB's ended up being

Williams

McGahee

Bush

Gore

Very happy

Great draft. I love Kevin as your 3rd RB but there is no way he should last into round 5 in my draft. I would be very pleased to have the same first 4 rounds.

I'm drafting 9th in a 10 team performance scoring league. This year, I think I'm going to stray from my typical RB, RB theory in the first couple of rounds. I just don't like the options at 1.09 and 2.02, so I think I'm going to go WR, WR. I'll likely take Chad Johnson, and then either Fitzgerald or Moss in round 2. I'm leaning toward Fitzgerald, but a part of me thinks Moss may return to his old form.

Of course, the downside to this strategy is that I'll have to come up with some big surprises at the RB slot in rounds 3-7. But, I just don't see that much of a drop off from guys like L. Jordan, Cadillac, E. James, etc. to J. Jones, K. Jones, McAllister, Foster, Gore, etc. I'll have to back some of those picks up with Barber or D. Williams, but I can do that in later rounds.

The only people I'll consider at 1.09 and 2.02 as far as RB is R. Johnson if he falls to 9th, and maybe W. Parker at 2.02. Too many questions marks or just generally unimpressive resumes between the 5-15 RBs.

I draft this Sunday, so we'll see how it goes.

In a 16 teamer from the 9 spot here is my pre-draft strategy (which never goes according to plan)...

1.09 Rudi / Ronnie / Cadillac / Edge / McGahee

2.07 FWP, Dunn, Reggie Bush, Portis (doubtful), Kev Jones, Westbrook (doubtful), Droughns

3.09 Palmer / Brady or WR (Wayne, Driver, Roy Williams, Ward, Burress)

4.07 Gore or WR

5.09 Rhodes or WR

6.07 Glenn or RB

7.09 Muhammad or RB

8.07 Watson if avail

9.09 Kitna / Leftwich

10.07 Dallas Clark

11.09 Engram

12.07 Williamson

13.09 Value

14.07 Turner

will take DT, PK and other bench warmers after the draft (18 total players, so 4 FA pickups allowed before week 1)

Start 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1PK, 1DT - pretty standard scoring - all TD's 6pts, INT's are -3, 1/20 passing 1/10 rush/receiving (NO ppr).

9 pick in a 10 teamer

Cpep/Vick

Ronnie/Edge/FWP/MBell/MBIII

Driver/Matt Jones/Reggie Wayne/Reggie Brown

Heap/Watson

hope it is good enough.

yes...that is exactly how it went. surprise to see FWP and reggie fall.....there was a QB run.....and of course several knuckleheads move....

16 team results...

drafted out of the 9 spot, I think I got pretty lucky with what fell - Sportsline screwed up and when I was supposed to take Winslow in the 10th I ended up having to take Wiggins due to a bug in the site (was about to run out of time).

Scoring is 1/20 passing 6pt all TD's (-3 Ints), 1/10 rush/receiving

Starting requirements:

1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE), 1DT, 1 PK

First column is how many of that position had been taken, so 6th means Rudi was the 6th RB taken, 2nd column is the ADP for the past 3 weeks, 3rd column is when I selected the player.

Code:
# of POS ADP	ACTUAL POS	Player6th 1.08 1.09	RB	Rudi Johnson19th 2.06 2.07	RB	Reggie Bush10th 2.10 3.09	WR	Anquan Boldin15th 3.10 4.07	WR	Donald Driver33rd 5.03 5.09	RB	Dominic Rhodes37th 4.11 6.07	RB	Tatum Bell49th 5.13 9.09	WR	Reggie Brown16th 6.15 8.07	QB	Jake Plummer5th 7.05 7.09	DT	Carolina24th 9.10	11.09	QB	Chris Simms15th	10.11	10.07	TE	Jermaine Wiggins63rd	11.11	12.07	WR	Travis Taylor
rosters are 18 deep, commish ended draft 2 rounds early (!) and we get to finish out the rosters with FA's

I had the 8th in a 12 teamer and R. Brown and L. Johnson were keepers from the previous year.

My draft went:

Edge

Holt

Gore (should have taken Chambers...just have a good feeling about Gore and RBs were flyin)

Matt Jones

T. Gonzales

Rod Smith

Carson Palmer

Other than regretting not holding out on Gore (think Chambers will blow up this year), I feel pretty good.

Had my 12 team draft last night and I drafted from the 9th slot. Lots of "newbies" or "guppies" whatever you wanna call 'em. All td's are 6 pts.

Myself and one other guy (whom I'll mention) knew what we were doing.

1st rd - Carson Palmer

2nd rd - Lamont Jordan

3rd rd - Chester Taylor

4th rd - Torry Holt

5th rd - Warrick Dunn (Still there?!?!)

6th rd - Donald Driver

7th rd - Ravens (I know...there was a run on D's and they can kill you if you don't have a good one)

8th rd - Ben Watson

9th rd - Lee Evans

10th rd - Aaron Brooks

11th rd - Kellen Winslow

12th rd - Ahman Green

13th rd - Bengals D

14th rd - Antonio Bryant

We start 1qb, 1rb, 1wr, 1te, 1d/st, 1k, with 2 flex either RB or WR.

Randy Moss went #2 OVERALL! ANd when I picked Palmer at #9 that guy laughed at me! Then he continued to draft Duce Staley as his #2 RB in the 5th with plenty others on the board.

Due to the guy mentioned above, the guy drafting at #4 had a hayday! He got LT at #4, then in the 2nd and 3rd rds he got Chad Johnson and Steve Smith!! He also ended up with a decent #2 RB. His QB is Plummer.

Oh...and Matt Hasselback went at #11 !

Drafted tonight from 9th in a 12 team redraft league, performance scoring, 1QB,1RB,1WR,1TE,1Def,1K,2FLEX (can start 3 RB's)...

Tiki Barber

Steve Smith

DeShaun Foster

Deuce McAllister

Matt Jones

etc...

I had the 9th. 12 team. No PPR. One man Keeper(1st year) . 1qb 2rb 3wr 1TE 1Flex TE/WR K D. Passing TD's worth 6. Bonus for length.

Just had my 12 teamer. Overall, I am pretty happy with it.

1. (9) R. Johnson RB

2. (16) C. Johnson WR

3. (33) W. Dunn RB (parker went the pick before, but I was happy enough with Dunn here)

4. (40) D. Driver WR

5. (57) T. Heap TE (don't usually take a TE this early, but figured I'd give him a shot with McNair there now)

6. (64) C. Taylor RB

7. (81) D. Rhodes RB (very happy with this)

8. (88) Mi. Clayton WR

9. (105) A. Brooks QB

10. (112) J. Brown K (i panicked here while looking for antonio bryant and yahoo auto picked for me)

11. (129) M. Bell RB (very happy with this as well)

14. (160) W. Lundy RB

15. (177) M. Brunell QB

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: at all the people drafting Bush in the 2nd. Especially in a redraft!

Talk about overhyped. That's why I was able to take Dunn in the 5th!

In comparison...where has Norwood been taken? Wait, lemme guess...undrafted.

Oh wise-one of very long signatures...Where do you have him ranked in a PPR league? How about non-PPR?

He's surely ranked lower than Dunn, Chester Taylor, FWP, T. Jones, Droughns, Julius Jones, Dominic Rhodes, etc. So whatever that is...20+ something? In either league...PPR or NPR.I'm not saying he's not gonna be a stud sometime. But he will be sharing time with Deuce or he may be used as a flanker or something. Deuce is getting paid $50 million to play...not relinquish the starting role to a rookie. Next year may be a different story.

The only way I could see justifying taking Bush that high is if you were psychic and knew Deuce would get hurt by week 3. Which is a possibility but you can't (or should I say shouldn't) draft by predicting injuries.

I went with Manning at 9th in our draft two weeks ago in 12 team league typical scoring. Once my top 6 RBs were off the board, I thought Manning had the best value.

He's surely ranked lower than Dunn, Chester Taylor, FWP, T. Jones, Droughns, Julius Jones, Dominic Rhodes, etc. So whatever that is...20+ something? In either league...PPR or NPR.

I'm not saying he's not gonna be a stud sometime.

He has a legit shot at top 10 in PPR leagues - how many RB's caught 50 passes last season and did not finish in the top 10 in PPR scoring? I am not saying he is a :IBTL: for 50 receptions - but a lot of experts are predicting that.I'd also argue he has a legit chance of finishing ahead of every one of the backs you mentioned not named FWP. I took him in the 2nd round in a 16 team non-PPR league as the 19th back taken, passing on Dunn and Droughns - and still got Rhodes in the 5th (!) round. Either he is severly over-hyped like you are saying, or you are dead wrong since his ADP is 24th for the last 3 weeks - his value does vary based on PPR or non-PPR, but I don't think it is crazy to think he will finish in the top 20 even in non-PPR leagues.

I went with a different strategy this year due to what I felt were unimpressive RBs available at the 9 spot (10 team league). We'll see how it goes...

R. Moss

Fitzgerald

Foster

Dunn

A. Green

McAllister

Watson

B.Edwards

Bledsoe

T. Bell

Warner

Norwood

Favre

McCardell

Scheffler

Akers

Giants

Bengals

Jennings

Koenen

Great site, my first post. My league finally had our draft this past Saturday.

I drafted 9th overall in a 12 team 15 round draft.

The required starting spots: QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, Flex (WR/RB), TE, DEF, K

Here's the one kicker...we use pretty much a default Yahoo setting in our Plus league but we also give 0.5 pts per reception.

This was the result of my draft:

1. (7) L. Jordan

2. (18) C. Johnson

3. (31) R. Droughns

4. (42) Sa. Moss

5. (55) M. Hasselbeck

6. (66) M. Bell

7. (79) C. Cooley

8. (90) T. Duckett

9. (103) Ma. Jones

10. (114) Indianapolis

11. (127) Mi. Clayton

12. (138) J. Brown

13. (151) K. Winslow

14. (162) E. Wilford

15. (175) C. Simms

Reasons for the team I assembled: There was a run on RB's ...Peyton Manning went 20th if that's any indication. My strategy will be to hope for Bell, Matt Jones, Clayton or Wilford breakout so I can swing a deal for a top tier RB or WR.

Can anyone give me a grade? :bye:

Here's one more data point - if anyone is still cares. 10 team league with standard scoring + 0.5 ppr and 4pts for passing TDs. Start 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 flex RB/WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 def. As you might imagine, the 2QB requirement caused them to go a bit earlier than usual.

A few sharks, only one real guppy - see the Eli pick

1st 2 Rounds in order

Round 1: LJ, Alexander, Tomlinson, Peyton, Tiki, LaMont Jordan, Rudi, Eli Manning (!Giants Homer), Ronnie Brown, Portis

Round 2: Steve Smith, Willie Parker, Carson Palmer, Edge, Steven Jackson, Chad Johnson, Cadillac Williams, Torry Holt, Larry Fitzerald, Willis McGahee

My Picks

9 - 1.09 - Ronnie Brown

12 - 2.02 - Willie Parker

29 - 3.09 - Warrick Dunn

32 - 4.02 - TO

49 - 5.09 - Donald Driver

52 - 6.02 - Roy Williams

69 - 7.09 - Jake Plummer (couldn't wait any longer)

72 - 8.02 - Terry Glenn

89 - 9.09 - Ahman Green

92 - 10.02 - Chris Simms (best rated remaining, unfortunately same bye as Plummer)

109 - 11.09 - Hence - John Kitna

112 - 12.02 - Randy McMichael

129 - 13.09 - Dominic Rhodes - got several comments of "I was going to take him next"

132 - 14.02 - Keyshawn Johnson to complete the team Tuna WR group

149 - 15.09 - Redskins D

152 - 16.02 - Ben Watson - clearly no footballguys in this draft

169 - 17.09 - Brandon Jacobs

172 - 18.02 - Alex Smith QB - last available starting qb and bye week filler

189 - 19.09 - John Kasay

I probably could have done a bit better, but if TO doesn't bomb on me I think I'm a contender. Of the top 10 WRs, only Reggie Wayne and Driver were left when I took TO (and only those three at my Dunn pick), and was very happy to get Driver the next round. Only real regret is not grabbing Norwood to sit behind Dunn. I think he went at 13.04.
