Who's the #1 pick in dynasty drafts? (1 Viewer)

I've seen the talk all spring that the #1 pick in a dynasty draft should always be a RB, and all spring people were saying that the talk about the weak RB class was to be ignored, and that several RB's would be selected on the first day who were worth starting in the NFL. Now after the draft, the top RB's drafted go to teams with solid starters in place. Who do you take #1 in your Dynasty Rookie Drafts now? My answer, as it was before the draft, remains Charles Rogers.

For me it will be Charlie Rogers unless Priest Holmes troubles continue and he can't play, then it will be Larry Johnson.

I too believed in the rb theory for dynast drafts, however, this one one of the worst drafts for rb's I have ever seen. Both my top two rated rbs will miss 2003 [mcgahee & suggs] Very disappointing. I have pix 1.01 and 1.04 and I'm completely lost here ;)

You've got to figure Larry Johnson or Charles Rogers as 1.1/1.2 (order is uncertain). Beyond that, it's a real tough call (and I pick 1.3!!!). I suppose 1.3 could be Chris Brown in TENN or Justin Fargas in OAK. I don't like where the Smiths ended up.

I've got Rogers at 1.1 and L.Johnson at 1.2. I have pick 1.3 and don't know for sure who I will take there. Barring one of the above guys falling, I guess Fargas, Brown or McGahee. I don't see huge production out of any those RBs for 2003.

In our dynasty draft, the owners with the #1, #2 & #3 picks all have bigtime QB needs, so Palmer, Leftwich & Boller will more than likely be gone, if the draft were held today.I have the #6 overall and am targeting (in this order):1. Larry Johnson (providing he gets Priest's job)2. Charles Rogers3. Chris Brown (to handcuff to Eddie George)4. Lee Suggs (to handcuff to William Green)5. Rex Grossman6. Trading down this year to trade up in RD2 this year and in RD1 next year. However, alot has yet to happen (June 1 cuts, Camps, etc)

Before McGahee went down the top two guys were he and Rogers. When McGahee went down ...

Our Draft has started:1) Rogers2) L.Johnson3) McGahee4) A.JohnsonPicks 1&4 belonged to the same guy, and 2&3 belonged to anotherInteresting that the guy that picked Rogers, A.Johnson, also has Moss and Owens on his squad. I am up at 5....

Depends whether you league has IDPs or not.If so, You got to consider a few of the early defense picks like Newman and Polamalu. These guys will be immediate points makers for a fantasy squad. Rogers is still playing for Detroit - a young team with a lot maturing needed. Very few rookie WRs develop as hyped. As Penn State Alumni, I would love to see LJ start and be successful. But it's not likely.

I really liked Artose Pinner going into the draft...I saw one comment that said his running style was similar to Emmitt Smith. He lead the SEC in rushing. No small feat.He played for a poor team in KY.Saw another comment that said something to the effect: His Offensive lineman were obstacles not blockers. He was a highly recruited HS player. He had a bad injury in the Senior Bowl which really hurt his stock and lowered him from a high 2nd. Almost fully healed now (just had screwed removed from foot)His college career and playing style is very similar to Lamont JordanNow being drafted by Detroit is super! Great opportunity... I would not hesitate to take him as the #1 RB!

Our rookie draft has started and the first three picks are already in and they are as follows:1. B. Leftwich2. C. Rogers3. C. PalmerBy the way we start 2 QB's, so QB's are slightly more valuable in our league than other leagues.

I like that fact that Pinner put up good numbers while playing for a small program with limited talent in a conference of bigtime programs loaded with former high-school All-Americans. Certainly when you look at opportunity in the NFL, you have to think he has one of the best (unless Priest is out) because the Lions have wanted to replace Little Man for a couple of years.

Interesting Draft. How many WRs,QBs, and RBs do you start?

I guess this proves mock drafts are silly because everyone's league is different.LJ at 7? after Washington!?Rex at 2.06 after such standouts like Bryant Johnson and Boldin and even if Suggs wasn't hurt?Pinner, with one of the best situations at RB falls to 2.10

This is a league where strong opinions on players and needs of teams really affects where players get picked. That made some of the picks a little odd and helped some good players to slip to me.

I have the 1.1 in Zealots league 8. I was planning on before the draft and am still taking McGahee. He is the only potential grand slam in this draft. I will take the odds that he comes back strong.

Nice. Who did you trade Onterrio for?
Traded with one of the worst teams in the league for a 2nd next year. Should be one of the first 3 picks in the 2nd. I would have had a hard time making space on my roster for him anyways.

I'd definitely go with Rogers at #1 overall, simply on the apparent "fact" that he has the best chance of this rookie class to become a star in the NFL. You never can tell with the QBs, and with the possible exception of Pinner none of the RBs went into situations that make it likely they'll start any time soon.My first choice, though, would be to trade down to the 2nd round and get a #1 for next year.

last year,, I took Portis with the No one pick.. The year before,, i'd have taken LT( but didn't have the first over all, so I got stuck with Vick). This year... Chuck,, then Andre... Not a good year for instant help type players,, it almost seems like everyone will be a wait and see type pick.. Usually the reason Running backs are so valuable as a first over all is because they can step in and make an immediate impact... Who knows with these rb's though. If you're in a dynasty league,, and you are drafting first,, it means your team sucks,, and probably will suck again this year, since there are no "instant help" players.. So,, take the wr this year,, then with your first over all pick next year take Maurice Clarett.

I'm pretty sure Clarett won't be eligible next year. Unless I'm mistaken, the NFL requires draft entries to have been out of high school for at least three years, and wasn't Maurice a true freshman this past season?

Quick dynasty rankings:1. Charles Rogers2. Willis McGahee (Obviously a risky pick)3. Larry Johnson (Something tells me he'll flop, but you can't ignore that he's a first round RB with a good opportunity to play soon)4. Byron Leftwich5. Andre Johnson6. Chris Brown (I'm a believer)7. Onterrio Smith (Character, not talent, is the concern here)8. Artose Pinner (An intriguing player who could be worth a higher pick if you need immediate help)9. Kelley Washington10. Taylor JacobsPS. Anyone else notice Najeh Davenport's name on that list?

Our leagues draft has started like this:1) Charles Rogers2) Larry Johnson3) Willis McGahee4) Andre Johnson5) Carson Palmer6) Byron Leftwich The next few picks will probably be guys covering their starting running backs so I wouldn`t be surprised to see guys like Musa Smith , Labrandon Toefield and Artose Pinner go next.

Yes. And one would be nuts to take him ahead of Kevin Jones anyway.

There was talk this year that Clarett was going to challenge the leagues rule on eligibility.Kevin Jones is a great RB, but he's no Clarett. People forget that he had that shoulder stinger for the whole second half of the season (when people started to notice the OSU) which greatly limited his production. If you got to see him play in the first half he's the real deal. And only a freshman  At least next year, and hopefully every year will be better than this crop, pathetic 2003 fantasy value.

What do some of you project Charles Roger's stats for this season to be?

I'm guessing - 850 and 6 TDs.

Oddly enough one just started and that is how it went.

That was a product of the media doing what they do best - misconstruing a comment he made in an interview. He had no intentions of trying to get into the NFL drat this year. I also get the impression that he's interested in staying the duration. Now if they win another championship and he has a stellar season this next year, I could see him opting for the NFL draft. Otherwise I think he'll be staying.

Our Rookie Draft has proceeded as follows:1. Charles Rogers--Shark Tank 2. Andre Johnson--Marauders 3. Larry Johnson--Demons 4. Willis McGahee--Marauders 5. Justin Fargas--Demons 6. Chris Brown--Demons 7. Bryant Johnson--Rednecks 8. Tyrone Calico--Cowboys 9. Kelley Washington--Marauders 10. Carson Palmer--Squires10 team, Dynasty, performance plus scoring (yardage, receptions and scores) with 1 QB, 2-3 RB's, 1-4 WR's (5 total at WR/RB), 1 TE, 1 PK, 1 DT There has obviously been a fair amount of trading prior to the draft.I am the Demons and I felt a need for RB's. I got Portis last year at the 1.9.I currently have:Green, Trent KCC QB Kitna, Jon CIN QB Jones, Thomas ARI RB Portis, Clinton DEN RB Tomlinson, Ladainian SDC RB Branch, Deion NEP WR Burress, Plaxico PIT WR Gaffney, Jabar HOU WR Johnson, Chad CIN WR Moss, Randy MIN WR Owens, Terrell SFO WR Robinson, Koren SEA WR Graham, Daniel NEP TE Jolley, Doug OAK TE Shockey, Jeremy NYG TE Akers, David PHI PK Raiders, Oakland OAK DT Rams, St. Louis STL DT 18 Total Players (the rosters are temporarily expanded to 21, until the end of the preseason, to account for the 3 round rookie draft)

Demons, Not bad for a 6 team league.Hoosier Daddy, where do you get your info. Before the stinger injury and when he had 15 touchdowns in 5 or 6 games is when the whole leave school thing started. Then the injury and then reality. I agree the media kept on him about it. Playing for the duration is not going to happen unless he gets injured again. He has no loyalty to the OSU, especially after the whole "the school is trying to make him look stupid" incident with his friend who died.Dynasty draftRogersL. JohnsonFargasBrownPinnerA. JohnsonPalmerMagaheeB. JohnsonLeftwich

In my main league, an owner just made a Ditka-esque trade and traded all his picks except for his 1st round AND gave up Brett Favre for the 1.01 pick overall. He plans on snatching up Charles Rogers, and frankly, I don't blame him. Rogers should be big. Maybe not his rookie year (needs time to get familiar with the NFL, learning the Lions' system, and getting used to Harrington throwing to him). But give the young Lions offense some time, and they should be a nice surprise in the near future. This year should be reallllllly interesting as far as rookies. There's really only a small handful of sure rookie picks, but outside of them, there's no telling who will go where..

any other drafts running out there?
Beginning this Saturday at noon EST the Zealots Leagues (1-8 at least) will be holding their rookie drafts. I'll post the first rounds for these eight drafts as they are completed.09

weel, FWIW, I have the #1, #2, and #6 pick in our dynasty draft this fall (not a true dynasty, but without getting into the nitty-gritty details, we essentially keep roughly 13 players per team in a 12-team league).right now I project the first four picks like this:1. rogers2. mcgahee3. larry johnson4. a johnsonafter that it really depends on what happens between now and september. Leftwich/Palmer is a possibility next couple of picks, but more likely will be rookie RBs/WRs that look good in pre-season or suddenly have an opportunity that isn't apparant right now. I'm thinking I will take someone lilke Fargas at #6, although I am a Bennett and George owner so I may consider O Smith/C BrownI will take mcgahee over johnson...even with the injury, I would rather take the elite talent and wait on him

Don't forget WR Kevin Curtis-Stl.I'm not saying he's a top 10 rookie pick, but a nice guy to stash for 2004.There's a decent chance Holt will leave as a FA.

I'm with Fruitbat... And I would wish I didn't have the first pick because MaGahee is the guy I would take with the #1.1. Rogers1A. MaGahee3. L. Johnson4. A. Johnson5. Brown

Pinner and O. Smith should be higher than most people think.
Should be - but will they be?Both are behind entrenched starters - I could see either or both breaking out mid-season, but if you are in the first roud, you want someone who will produce NOW... I think the only RBs that will be definite's in the first will be Johnson and Brown, because they are more likely to see the field than any other RBs in this draft this year. Otherwise it will be mostly WRs.

Actually zealots 4 has already started their draft. Rogers went 1.1, Andre Johnson went 1.2 and LJ went 1.3.I have the 1.1, 1.5 and 1.6 in Zealots 5, and i will be Taking LJ with the 1.1, Fargas and C Brown with the 1.5 and 1.6 picks. Unless of course one of Mcgahee, Andre, or Rogers falls to 1.5.
