Who's your D for week 16? (1 Viewer)

Had Indy and Tampa. Started Tampa, so far.

Could grab SF or Denver but doubt I'll pull the trigger, although my gut says Denver does well (like returning one).
Tough one. But I WILL get back to you on it.
Thanks man. :(
Nigel is so consumed, the guy doesn't even know I'm here.
:lmao: What the ...?

I'd lean Tampa in the Superbowl. Then SF. Then Denver. Denver's just been so bad, I'd be afraid to rely on them in the biggest game of the year.
:bye: I could even go Cinci this weekend, if the weather is just nuts. But Tampa next week, easy. At home against Oakland... :goodposting:

Oh, I didn't realize next week was your Superbowl.

Oops, sorry, it's not. Total points goes through next week in this league. Anyway, my gut call this weekend is still...Denver.

Lot of love for Cincy this week. If the weather ends up being as crappy as they say, wouldn't that be somewhat worse for the Cincy D? That is, wouldn't both teams be more inclined to grind it out. No passes = no sacks/ints.

And, where would you rank Cincy with these other 5 D/STs available on the WW (sneaking it in). And what team is most likely to win, as we get 3 points for a team victory from our D. TIA.

CIN

STL

SD

BUF

DET

KC

No Boldin. Rough weather. The Cardinals with nothing to play for.

The Patriots have been abysmal from a fantasy perspective this season prior to last week's TD return by Hobbs, but I'm wondering if maybe they aren't a bad sleeper pick this week. If the Cardinals decide to shut it down and New England gets to play against Leinart and backups, that might be enough to make their weak defense look decent or maybe even good.

:D You were one of the strong advocates against starting them vs OAK. Besides the KR TD (which is impossible to predict) they only had 1 sack and 1 TO vs OAK. Even Arizona at less than full strength is better than Oak and this is a bad matchup for NE. There are tons of other sleeper matchups I like more than NE this week many of which are available in most leagues on waivers.

Yup, I didn't think they'd do much against the Raiders and other than the TD return (which obviously was pretty big) they didn't. They played as I expected they would. I can't say I feel strongly about advocating them this week but if the Cardinals elect to shut it down this week I do think they have a shot primarily for this reason:1. Leinart. He isn't very good to begin with but when you consider the fact he hasn't played in several weeks and the weather could be nasty, I could see him making a ton of mistakes. The combination of a rusty QB who isn't very good playing with backups and poor weather could result in a favorable matchup. So I do think the Patriots are potentially looking better than last week. The key to that is the Cardinals electing not to play their top guys in bad weather and run the risk of injury. They've already decided to shut Boldin down. Perhaps they'll decide to limit Warner, Fitzgerald and Breaston as well. If that's the case, I like the Patriots' chances. The gamble here is the Cardinals could decide to play this like a regular game and keep Warner and the starters in. If that's the case, I don't think the Patriots have a chance at all. Maybe a turnover or two if the weather gets nasty but that's about it. So there's no question it's a pretty huge gamble, but if we get some word between now and the start of the game that the Arizona starters aren't going to play much and you are desperate for a defense with some upside I think the Patriots could be worth a shot. How's that for hedging my bet? :)

packersfan, there has been absolutely no indication that the cardinals are contemplating shutting down warner and playing leinart. boldin is hurting, which is why they would shut him down. if it snows and/or rains, why would they bench warner for fear of injury? warner may need to play in bad weather in the playoffs, so why not roll him out there now to get him a taste of it?eta: sorry for the quasi hijack. i am benching TB for Houston because SD is too high scoring. They rarely score less than 30. I doubt Oakland scores more than 13.

I don't disagree with this. I understand that Boldin is hurt but the Cardinals may not want to expose Warner and Fitzgerald (and maybe Breaston) in poor conditions. That's just a guess on my part and I'm not basing it on anything other than a guess. Again, if there's no indication between now and Sunday morning that this will occur than I would not recommend starting the Patriots' D. But if we do receive word that the Cardinals might not be playing this game to win then I like the Pats' chances against Leinart and backups.

Packersfan your realling making quite the assertion aren't you? Here's what a few of the sharks think about the game this week.I "Some expect the Cardinals to come out flat as they don't have much to play for. I do not think that is the case because the Cardinals need to find their mojo going into the playoffs as something has come undone and they have two weeks to prepare. They've clinched their division yes, and at 8-6 have no chance of securing anything else but here's the problem, they're only 8-6, lost their last game and are a very non-playoff 2-3 in their last 5 games. The Cardinals need a confidence boost now as the time to try and fix what's broke isn't in Week 18. What's broken of course is their inability to run the ball but to compete in this they will have to throw the ball and oh how they will throw it. Kurt Warner and company will pick the Patriots secondary apart, almost as if there's no one there, partly since the game and field conditions are expected to be sloppy and that's a disadvantage to the Patriots pass rush. Expect y Fitz and Breaston to be wide open with no one around them on several plays and a huge day for them. If the Cardinals coil up into a little ball and try to protect their precarious playoff berth by hole'ing up on the bench, then they may as well kiss all that they've accomplished this season goodbye and we'll chalk that up to a grievous coaching error." I think Warner will be fine myself as long as the winds aren't too bad and it's not a flat out blizzard out there Sunday.

I'm not sure I understand your point. I'm not calling the Patriots a slam-dunk. I've noted various times in recent weeks how awful they have been from a fantasy perspective this season. I am not ignoring that. Nor am I ignoring the perception that the Cardinals need to finish strong. All I'm saying is that we have one star player for Arizona who isn't expected to play and if we receive word that the team in any way believes it would be better served resting other key players and not playing to win then I think the Patriots are worth a look. Arizona would hardly be the first struggling team in NFL history with a playoff seed clinched that didn't play to win to close out the season, believing health was more important than momentum. But if we don't receive any indication that might occur than I don't think the Patriots are a good start. It's pretty simple really.

Have you read ANYTHING all week that indicates Zona will rest his players this early in the year?

in the two leagues where we play team D and I'm in our championship game, I will be starting Dallas and Philly. I think the Ravens will have a tough time moving the ball on Dallas, and Flacco has looked a little shakier lately -- so maybe a pick (or two?) plus a few sacks by Ware (whom I have on my IDP team).

Philly's D has looked pretty good, and Washington is down both OTs and the offense is looking pretty bad right now (and Portis had back spasms on Friday).

I think both Dallas and Philly are top-5 plays this week.

Tampa Bay Bucs or New England Pats ????..... i can see both sides (pros & cons) ..... i have flip-flopped them 3 times this week ....... :hophead:

Well hope your are at least 1-1 brotha. Dallas stunk up the joint.

No expert here. These are the defensive scores each week vs Oakland:

week 10 - Panthers D scores - 17 points

11 - @Miami D scores - 15

12 - @ Denv D scores 3

13 - KC - 15

14 - @ SD - 18

15 - NE - 13

I'm starting to like Houston with its offense clicking vs Oakland. Now do I have the ballz to play them?

Check these Defensive scores in your own leagues.
If you are going on match-up, then check out the "vs STL" defenses have been doing. Very crappy defenses that have posted good games, and great defenses posting monster games. While the Texans are a good D to consider, I've got a feeling DMAC is going to have a big game given his momentum last week and the fans (and owners) wanting to see what DMAC can do. The Texans achilles heel is trying to stop the run.I give the slight edge to the 49ers since they are the "vs. STL" D of the week. Singletary has molded that D into a different unit. Both Texans and 49ers are risky plays, but defenses are pretty much crap shoots and both have a shot at being decent.

1. SF

2. HOU

I can almost envision a Bears' D eruption in the super cold weather under the bright lights of MNF, but the Packers offense scares me too much.

Anyone rolling with Cincy D? Still waiting for ESPN to show the weather at this "game of the week" location. Concerned Giants won't get any stats against a run-heavy Carolina offense (which also hurts us Steve Smith owners!)

Bengals or Browns.... Can't decide who's the better play. Might just flip a coin.
Seems everybody with the option is going Browns. I'm just trying to see if anyone has the guts to do Cincy in the most important fantasy matchup of the season.

Patriots. Zona warm weather team and doesn't give two hoots about this game. No Boldin and Warner playing bad lately.

Playing it safe is for losers. This is the week to really swing for the fences.
I tend to agree. I think that is why the Browns D is an start this week. With that kind of wind blowing, anything could happen. They could completely shut out Cincy and give up fewer than 100 yards, or they could give up 400/40. Anything could happen.

I don't know. Neither team gives a crap about that game. I think pts will be scored and neither D does anything special. Both teams will just want to get it over with.

So would you consider Cincy a good risk-reward play then?
I definitely think so (I realize you are not asking me). Either Browns or Bengals D is IMO.
I'll take anyone's opinion! The decision is driving me crazy! I still say the only chance for big points in this game is points against and perhaps fumble recoveries. There will be few passes attempted throughout the day (limiting sacks and interceptions). Under my scoring system, I can get 8 points if Cincy keeps Cleveland to 7 points or less (10 if it's a shutout). But if there's not greater potential than the Giants have tonight, I'd rather go with them while my opponent's team is done for the week.

You may be completely right and that is another part of why I see these defenses as being swing for the fence starts this week. My guess is that the in-state rivalry between these two teams will still matter to them even with both being out of the hunt. I also think that Cleveland is playing at home and the defense tends to play better at home (as do most), which is really the only reason I choose them over Cincy. But honestly, you could easily be right. I am taking a risk this week with hope that it pays off. If it doesn't, at least I gave it a shot (and since I don't have Pit or Ten defense on my bench, I am comfortable with the risk).

Ohio rivalry so both teams should show up to play for pride. Bengals D/ST actually does pretty well against the run, so throw in Dorsey and high winds, it could be a nice play. I would go with them over the Browns D. I give the edge to Fitz over Dorsey in the bad QB ratings, Bengals have Housh and Henry as WR options and Benson has been serviceable. I was going to go with the Saints D/ST week 16 until my Super Bowl opponent dropped the Titans D this week and I grabbed them to start.

Go with Cleveland:At home in the dogpound? CheckCan at least name a couple of D players on their roster? CheckLike to blitz? Check (good things happen fantasy wise with a blitz)Ocho Stinko out? CheckThere is a reason they are called the Bungles. Don't go looking for help from that mess with the stakes at an all-time high. Talk about you could of had a V-8 come Monday morning! Hands down the Browns D over the Bungles D.

Hard to justify when selecting the Cleveland D isn't an option. I guess I'll just hope the Giants pressure Delhomme in similar conditions tonight, but I doubt it.

I agree with everything Post Corner said about the Browns, but I think the same argument can be made for the Bengals D this week (other than being at home in the dog pound). If it were not for the home field, I might even prefer the Bengals. Both teams are horrible on both offense and defense and you have to think that wind from (now) 26-40 MPH is going to make offense look just awful today.

I agree, I like Houston BUT Chicago at Home, Monday Night, its so tempting!!! Im gonna roll the dice with Houston.......gulp.
