Just looking at stats and was surprised that it was 3% of the population had net worth of $1M.
Without guys like me to create wealth there would be no wealth for guys like you to steal. When you entire argument boils down to "The person with the most money wins!"
Well, that says something about the person making the argument.
To whom should the US be compared?I don't even know where to start with these lists.
Comparing the USA to Norway is a frightfully intellectually dishonest exercise.
I'm actually not. Part of it is inflation based over time and what $1MM was when I was a kid is different than what it is today in purchasing power. But think how many people in places like CA who owned their own home became millionaires during the real estate boom in the early 2000's. If you owned your own home in a place like Pasadena for instance, you pretty much by default became a millionaire.Just looking at stats and was surprised that it was 3% of the population had net worth of $1M.
I’ll defer to the OP - he made the assertion, so he probably has some comparators in mind. Otherwise, what’s the point?Tell us.
I agree 100%I don't even know where to start with these lists.

Two of my former co-workers shared stories from Germany and India where folks are basically laughing at us because of Trump. I know the MAGA guys don't care and ultimately I don't care a lot myself about what other countries think because America's global standing isn't high on my list of concerns. But it is on the list as it does impact us and it's embarrassing.I think last night made it even more obvious why the United States doesn't have the global standing or influence that is used to as well.
Aside from broadcasting to the world what a laughingstock it's politics are.
Could you imagine Trump taking that show to G7, United Nations, global summits etc... No wonder there are countless photos and videos of other world leaders laughing at him and making fun of him every time he does.
In some cases it was spun as a choice to leave, "America First", "trade wars are easy" etc.. but he might just be incapable of contributing literally anything of meaning in such an environment, which is too bad because obviously the United States has a lot to offer. Biden didn't look a lot better in that regard.
Watching the debate, I couldn't help but think how the Trudeau's, Merkel's, Macron's and even Putin's of the world would just destroy either of these guys in a debate/discussion.
They've been laughing at us for a few years now. Coming from a military family of losers and suckers, it is extremely embarrassing. Two of my former co-workers shared stories from Germany and India where folks are basically laughing at us because of Trump. We still have much more freedom, and public land access in the States. I spose if ur a city dweller who's content to live in your borough then I get it. I have no idea what upward movement is like in western Europe, but I'd assume it's easier to "make it" in the US.Maurile Tremblay said:

Interesting...Economic upward mobility was quite good in the United States for a long time, but it's not great compared to other first-world countries these days.

A bummer because Europeans arent moving here or because Democrats ought to move to Europe? I'm not seeing anything negative here.Maurile Tremblay said:

I'd still take the states based on land mass and room to breath. You can make yourself quite nicely here if you're motivated, and you can own a nice chunk of land......The UK would fit inside the state of Oregon
What we need is a little f ing gratitude for what we've been given by generations before us. The world is going to be a much worse place when America is no longer the world's leader.I think it's pretty telling if we are falling back on "land mass" and "room to breathe" on this topic.
We need to pull our heads out of our ### a little bit. IMO we have gotten into a rut of infighting and resting on the accomplishments of 50+ years ago while others have caught up to us and passed us in key areas.
Wouldn't it be even better if we had land mass, room to breath, AND Europe's upward mobility, vacation time, relative economic equality, and happiness levels?Interesting...

I think that is what a lot of people around here are saying when we talk about these rankings and get told to leave the country. The greatest country in the world should strive to be all those things. We aren't lacking the resources to do so, that's for sure.Wouldn't it be even better if we had land mass, room to breath, AND Europe's upward mobility, vacation time, relative economic equality, and happiness levels?
This was way more illuminating than that op-ed from Sean Thomas, who co-opts Bourdain in a weird, almost unconscionable way considering Bourdain can't answer because he is dead. It's weird to use a recently dead person's completely benign experiences to prove a point that he or she may totally not have held.Economic upward mobility was quite good in the United States for a long time, but it's not great compared to other first-world countries these days.

Is that why all the yups, and wanna be yups buy Audis and watch soccer? Cuz they wanna be more European? Seems like the trend.....I mean I bought a Tikka 7mm and put a Zeiss scope on it......so maybe I'm trying to be more euro as well.....Wouldn't it be even better if we had land mass, room to breath, AND Europe's upward mobility, vacation time, relative economic equality, and happiness levels?
At this stage of our evolution for this to be happening frequently in the greatest country on earth (maybe in human existence), we’re doomed….

I’m not sure which side of this BS I despise more, but it reminds me of the saying…. Individuals can be smart, but people are stupid.
Well, to be honest, the Antifa/crazy-left types following them around are purposefully agitating so they can get reactions just like this and post them on Twitter - and then guys like you go "OMG! We're doomed!'.
I highly doubt there would be any violence if the crazy-left didn't show up trying to start crap.
Lol. No surprise the heavily right leaning person blames the left. Unreal.Well, to be honest, the Antifa/crazy-left types following them around are purposefully agitating so they can get reactions just like this and post them on Twitter - and then guys like you go "OMG! We're doomed!'.

Both of these ####### groups were looking for trouble. Both sides here are complete jackasses and unfortunately represent more people then any of us would like to admit. It’s a sad state of affairs IMO.
But to act, and ultimately defend, the proud boys who’s whole Shtick is to fight is laughable. Of course there would never be fights if “the other side” didn’t show up, what ever side that is. It takes two to tango and the PB’s were spoiling for a fight as much as those ANIFA guys were. All I'm saying is that violence wouldn't be a problem if the "crazy other side" didn't show up trying to purposefully agitate.
All these people are ####### idiots. At this stage of our evolution for this to be happening frequently in the greatest country on earth (maybe in human existence), we’re doomed….

Out of curiosity, are you surprised that it's that high or that low? I would have guessed something in that general neighborhood, but a one million net worth isn't really that much.Just looking at stats and was surprised that it was 3% of the population had net worth of $1M.
Careful with that around here, I got called out for my privilege for suggesting as much.Out of curiosity, are you surprised that it's that high or that low? I would have guessed something in that general neighborhood, but a one million net worth isn't really that much.
Also January 6th proved that yes there will possibly still be violence without a left wing counter protest. But to act, and ultimately defend, the proud boys who’s whole Shtick is to fight is laughable. It’s pure insanity all around, and my point still stands. If this is where we are as the greatest country ever, we’re in trouble.
