Why are Siri, Alexa, Google, Cortana all women voices? (1 Viewer)

Alexa drives me crazy. 

I just commented to my wife that she would be able to understand me and I wouldn't have to repeat every request if Alexa were male. 

Which got me thinking that every AI so called smart device has a female persona. 

What gives?

I'm pretty sure you can change each of them (other than Alexa) to male now if you want.  I know my Google Assistant has like ten voice options, half of which are male. I think you can only change Alexa's accent or language, but not gender.
