Why do people still defend D.Foster? (1 Viewer)

I'll admit I have not watched many Panther games this season. Generally look at the box scores. I was a big DeAngelo Williams fan while at Memphis. Never understood why he had such a limited role. So Far watching tonights game D.Will looks like the better back.

Usually I hear that Foster gains the "tough" yards up the middle and that is why his YPC is lower. However, it seems clear that D.Will is the better back. Now if you want to argue that D.Will can't handle 25 carries a game, fine. I just can not buy the "Foster gets the majority of carries because he is the better back" argument any more.

I hope Carolina realizes this soon enough.

Foster gets the carries because he's the coach's darling. That's the main reason, and until Fox changes his opinion that's how it is.

I don't know if I've seen a carolina game all year.

how are the 2 of them at pass protection?

Foster has nude pictures of either John Fox or Jerry Richardson with someone other than their spouses is my best guess. Most all Panther fans I know here in the Carolinas want D-Will getting the majority of the carries.

His opinion better change his opinion or he won't have the authority to make this type of decision much longer.

I think he might have pictures of Fox with either farm animals or choirboys. I'm still trying to figure out how D. Williams hasn't won that job yet...

You spend a first rounder on D Will and totes the rock an average of just over 8 times a game. Understandable if he's running behind an all-pro, but Foster.....please. I think tonight will [finally] change the tides. Dude was a monster at Memphis; if Fox doesn't change his ways come next year, I can't envision him staying on board past '08.

Foster has got to have the worst feet of any starting RB in the NFL right now. The line isn't helping him, but he has ZERO moves and runs right up the back of his line.

As fun as it is to pile on Deshaun, I really haven't been that impressed with Williams's ability between the tackles. Seems to have the same problem as Bush (trying to bounce everything out).

Williams's time will come (like Benson's in Chicago), but won't be that surprised if he's a marginal starting NFL RB that gets replaced within a year or two.

This is the whole Tatum Bell argument reprised. Look, we know you guys love DeAngelo Williams, but he doesn't play and the coach and all the talking heads say he's not an every-down back.

Do you think there is some sort of redemption for your making a bad pick by telling this board that you were really right but a victim?

Im pretty sure both Julius Jones and Deshaun Foster have pictures of Roger Goddell... he forces Carolina and Dallas to give these guys playing time.

Very peculiar...

Why? He was an every down back in college. His YPC over the last 2 years is over 5 when given double digit carries. He's not small by any stretch.

williams appears to be the more dynamic & explosive runner... the reason i've heard most frequent cited why fox is reluctant to use him more is that they have less concerns about foster's pass protection skills...

to those who would dismiss the importance of blocking & helping keep the QB upright, look at how the CAR season went up in smoke once delhomme was injured... pass protection is a critically important facet of the game... if williams has trouble doing it (not saying it, just reporting fox's alleged concerns), it will continue to be an obstacle to him getting feature RB-type carries/touches...

Not to mention, Foster leads the NFL in lost fumbles... Nevermind the pitiful ypc average he boasts.
To be fair, there are several other players who fumble at a higher rate but haven't had as many touches (Brandon Jacobs, Michael Bennett).

Perhaps today's performance will encourage the Panthers to start D. Williams in 2008.

Or perhaps they'll continue stick with Foster and his limited upside, mediocre YPC and fumblitis.

Oh, I'm sure Fox is already thinking that it's only Tampa Bay and they don't have all their starters in there...even though Desuckage Foster is once again having a weaker showing.

they could use some better blocking and QB play. All year it seemed like it'd be real hard to be a Panthers RB and have success

It may not be John Fox's decision to make next year.

This team needs a coaching change and an overhaul in its entirety.

There are only a few untouchables.......

They need a healthy Delhomme, or a good FA QB. Smith should have 100+ catches, 1200+ yards, and 12-15 TDs every year. When he doesn't, look no farther than the QB play.

i was all set to cut DeAngelo loose in my keep 5 league (4 vets and 1 rook) I drafted him too early two years ago and unwisely kept him this year. I was preparing to cut him loose for a more consistent performer. Then he goes and does something like this and has me questioning again. At least i have the whole off season to think about it.

I drafted Foster as a rookie, traded him 2 years later, then got him back the next year and still have him. I drafted DeAngelo last year and played him today in my championship. Looks like a winner. I may have started each guy once this season before today. I tried getting rid of Foster before and during the season and no one wanted him. I will probably give him away before next season.

I drafted him for $19 in a $200 auction.

Almost cut him loose, as well.

Today he got his first start.

He just made my short list of possible keepers next year.

dont make me cry :excited: For some reason, there was a bidding frenzy for DeAngelo and instead of getting him for about 17 like I had hoped, I paid 29 (200 cap). I really thought going into the season that carolina had redesigned their entire offense to better suit him. I started him 1 time all season :(

Is it just me or does it seem like most owners overpaid for Norwood and DeAngelo based on their potential, and will likely make the same mistake next year?

EVERYONE thinks both should be starters, but because of the perception they are so much better than the incumbents, hard to get either one for a decent value...

yeah, Norwood went for 21 in my league. I'm not sure if he was used a single time this year.

Williams went for 12% of the cap while Norwood went for 6.5%. I paid 4% for Foster and would have been better off leaving the roster spot unfilled as he actually cost me Ws instead of givig me Ws. The man literally fumbles every game. Fox should be commited if Foster remains the starter in 08.

Williams has been getting bragged up a lot the last couple of years and still has not proven anything. If he was as good as his college press clippings he would have the job over Foster already.

Preseason I read he had problems with the one cut scheme and pass blocking. Those two things will cut into your playing time no matter if you have something on the coach or not. College is just that college, if he based how guy did in college than Ron Dayne would have be the next NFL rushing champ. Playing at the NFL is a such a huge jump for most players it doesn't suprise me that he is not doing it after playing at Memphis.

Note to the guys saying Barber needs to carry the load he might get his chance next year. This will be something he has not done since high school so dont think he is going to be the second coming, he was not even the main back at Minnesota when he shared with Maroney. He has been great because he is fresh and the D is a bit spent after J. Jones loosened them up.
