Why do we nitpick arguments? (1 Viewer)

Both Ryan Williams and David Wilson are players that people believe will take significant carries this season but many see Bradshaw entrenched as starter and Wells as simply a stop-gop Williams has to hurdle.

Why? Both Bradshaw and Wells are known to be brittle.

Wilson was a first rounder.

Willams was a second rounder coming off injury.

Wilson is behind a former 6th rounder.

Williams is behind a former 1st rounder.

Furthermore, I see people nitpicking David Wilson's pass blocking but have not seen a single post about Ryan Williams.

Is it somehow less important for the Cardinals to keep their Quarterback upright? If anything, their line is worse and the better pass blocker should be in the majority of plays.

Why do people analyze situations differently?

What's important about carries in one situation should be important in the other.

Some consider Bradshaw to be the best pass-blocking back in the league. It's not a pass/fail system. He also signed an extension for $9mm guaranteed. Not sure to what that really translates in a draft scale, but his 6th-round designation is meaningless now.

"I do not think that words mean what you think it means." - Inigo Montoya

Edit to add: I also think it's far more important to keep Eli Manning healthy than Skelton/Kolb for the success of their respective teams.

 It's because we're all football starved and have run out of anything of substance to discuss. It will all disappear in 6 days, except for the expected dredging up of old posts for people to say "i told you so"

Arent you nit-picking by creating a separate thread for this?

I don't understand why a thread of me asking why some people are nitpicking arguments for some players but not others is nitpicking.Even if you could classify my thread as nitpicking (which it isn't), the thesis of this thread is to push people to evaluate players on an even basis. If pass blocking is a factor in one secnario, it should logically be factored in all scenarios....and if for whatever reason you do consider my thread nitpicking. The thread is not nitpicking the situations between specific players so no irony (thus no humor) exists.I think everyone is getting giddy over my word selection which if I had the choice, I would change.

The Cardinals have LSH for 3rd down so even Beanie is not in the conversation.

With more specialization the days of using a three down back are limited.

Both players are rookies (Williams through lack of playing in 2011) and expectations should be tempered.

One thing I will say is people keep saying Bradshaw just signed a new deal and has guaranteed money and that isn't true he signed the deal last year and this is year 2 of the 4 year deal. If I recall correctly it was a 18 million dollar deal, not a bank breaking deal, it isn't hard to imagine the Giants cutting him after this year. Here is the deal

SIGNING BONUS: $5 million

BASE SALARIES

2011: $1.5 million (guaranteed)

2012: $3 million ($2.5 million guaranteed)

2013: $3.75 million

2014: $4 million

WORKOUT BONUSES: $250,000 each in 2012, '13 and '14

So that makes Bradshaw's salary cap numbers:

2011: $2.25 million

2012: $3 million

2013: $6.25 million

2014: $6.5 million

So it is actually easy to see them cutting him after this season

Shouldn't be too hard to recall, as the article including the breakdown you copy-pasted verbatim lists the $18mm figure just above the block you copied.

It's ridiculously wrong, too. He picked a horrible source from which to copy. Signing bonus is prorated across the duration of the contract. There is literally no way to have a $3mm base and $3mm cap figure (as 2012 is shown above) if there is any signing bonus. And the jumps in 2013 and 2014 from base to cap are impossible. The author added the footnote "UPDATE: The cap numbers have been changed because the old ones were wrong. I forgot to prorate the guaranteed salaries over the length of the deal. " to get to the figures listed above. Guaranteed salaries are not prorated. Signing bonuses are. Guaranteed salaries are simply guaranteed. He obviously has no idea about what he's talking.

I'll add that the Giants love Ahmad Bradshaw, he is a very good football player. I'd be stunned if they released him after this season (barring injury), as he is the type of player they crave on their team.
