Why no love for Garrard? (1 Viewer)

This guy is incredible consistent with almost every game 20 pts give or take just a few. granted he isn't going to put up a 30 point game but for consistent as he is, why aren't more people talking him up?

He isn't flashy, before the season he was almost completely a FFnonfactor (thus he doesn't get the hype from those who "called it" before the year); his WRs aren't great - although they aren't bad, certainly better than Tennessee or Minnesota; he plays in Jacksonville; and he isn't well known from college. All the factors that make someone hyped just aren't there. He probably is a great value play.

He is definitely a top-10 QB in NFL terms. I'd only put Brady, P.Manning, Favre and Romo ahead of him for sure and in the same tier as Big Ben and Palmer.

I like Garrard alot. I have palmer up one tier compared to you but I do agree that he is in that second tier. He has shown to be very consistent every week.

I have him as my #2 behind manning and I couldnt be happier. The guy is a rock, you play him, you know the points are coming. Rain or shine, he will get points for you

I love David Garrard, and I'm so excited that he is doing well. I watched him while he was at ECU (I had already graduated, but I still caught my Pirate games), and he was so much fun to watch play. I couldn't wait to see him in the NFL, and I figured once Brunell was out of Jacksonville he would take over, but Del Rio came aboard and drafted Leftwich. After waiting some more he finally has the starting role that is his to lose. He was great in college, and I'm glad he is now having success in the NFL. Here's to David  :moneybag:

Drafted him in the final round of a 16 team $250 league this year as my QB3 behind Rivers / Smith.. needless to say he's been the team MVP

Considering keeping him next year (drafted round +1) considering how early QBs go in this league (usually 5-6 off the board in the first 2 rounds).

I am amazed by the consistency that Garrard has shown this season. He's a top 10 guy at this point and you could start him over guys like Eli and McNabb which is quite suprising considering the Jags WR core.

He's not getting buzz for the simple reason that he's not putting up good FF numbers. He's playing better than Derek Anderson, but Anderson gets more hype on these boards because he throws the ball a lot more and thus puts up better statistics. Garrard is definitely an interesting dynasty prospect though. There are lots of QBs who started out as "game manager" types only to become FF monsters once they started throwing more (Brady, Brees, Roethlisberger). I don't know if Garrard is quite that good, but he has a chance to rise up the rankings a bit.

Funny thing is that I'll bet a LOT of people are still starting guys like Eli or Rivers on a weekly basis and Garrard is outplaying them.

I don't know what changed for him but last season he was a mediocre at best quarterback and now he's a pro-bowler. Amazing.
That's why I don't undertand why Mike Shula's name isn't being mentioned for another college head coaching job. The former Bama coach is currently the Jags QB coach.

perhaps he'd make a better NFL OC? I honestly don't know, but there is a lot more to success in college than developing a QB.

;) I picked him up off waivers in a 10 team league a week ago. I had been playing Kitna - now Garrard is my guy.

Hasselbeck?Garrard will consistently get you 15 points by our league scoring rules (passing yardage points don't begin until 100 yds). If you can afford a consistent low-end effort, then he's gold because of his consistency. If you need a little more, then it makes the choice a bit tougher if you have the likes of a Kurt Warner or whomever. So, good player for a solid team. Not quite as good for someone who might have to roll the dice or need a bit more out of the QB position.

 #7 QB over the last 4 weeks.

He's certainly not worth a ton in little 10 or 12 team leagues... but in 16+ team leagues or in Start 2 QB leagues he's a goldmine.

I have him as a backup to Ben. Can't find it in myself to insert him into the lineup. Maybe this week though.
He's outscored Big Ben in 3 of the last 4 weeks.

I think what EBF meant is that he has not been "great" I drafted he and Bulger and started Bulger for the first half of the season...once I came to my senses, I realized while he will not win me games like a Romo, Manning, Brady (or even Hass, Brees, Anderson or Palmer), you can depend on 16-22 points in standard scoring leagues from him per week. Before I sat down to my computer yesterday, I even joked to myself that he would have 260 yards and 2 TDs and low and behold I was no too far off. I am very happy to have him after i misfired on Bulger.

Perhaps it could be that the Jags hired a new offensive coordinator in the offseason, and his style of play is the difference?

To add to this, a mechanical flaw in his delivery was detected and corrected. It also probably helped his confidence to know that he was the undisputed number one quarterback on the team with no one looking over his shoulder.

Hes been playing well but look at his outfit during the post game press conference. He looked ridiculous. Who does he think he is? Wait until the playoffs Garrard.

Why no love for Fred Taylor......the guy's been a monster the last month and people still don't give him any love.

He wasn't in FBG's top 30 for the week again this week and smashed the Pittsburgh D.

He was dressed nice, what is wrong with that? After playing in the mud at Heinz field, I'd want to be cleaned up looking good myself.

IMO he looked like a pimp and if he wants attention brought to himself hes got it. I guess hes earned it with the way hes been playing but he better keep it up when it counts. I couldnt help but laugh at him but he seems like a good guy overall. I dont mind the bling on Chad JOhnson because I feel hes earned it. Time for Garrard to earn it.

He hardly looked like a pimp, and I don't consider one earring as bling. Anyway, I've been impressed with Garrard's play this year, and the Jags as a whole are playing very well. They always seem to fly under the radar, but maybe that's because they don't have a bunch of stars on the team. They are like a blue collar, tough as nails, good football team. They may make some noise in the playoffs.

Hey even Jag fans had something to say about his outfit  .

Don't blame Garrard. Blame his fashion consultant that he hired to help with endorsements.http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stor...221603298.shtml

The notes are about Garrard's performance during his postgame news conference, and they are from Tim Rose, founder of The Rose Agency and a personal image consultant. Rose helps Garrard - and a slew of other clients ranging from politicians and attorneys, to athletes across the country - with all aspects of their public appearance, including clothing.

That "merlot" velvet blazer Garrard wore after the San Diego game? Garrard thought it was distinguished, so Rose worked it into the sequence of ensembles he selected for the quarterback in August. "He picked up all 16 weeks worth of outfits during the summer and I had everything tagged," Rose says. The only hiccup was Garrard's three-week layoff with an ankle injury, which forced some adjustments in the sartorial schedule.

Rose's services aren't cheap ($450 an hour for an initial consultation), but most of his clients don't require much hand-holding. Garrard is one of those self-starters, a genuinely nice person who already embraced many of the 14 disciplines - body language, dress and etiquette, for example - which Rose stresses.

It's not surprising Garrard sought assistance in this area; stars in Jacksonville have forever struggled to find the national spotlight, and much of Rose's work is maximizing Garrard's exposure in a small market.

Rose told Garrard before the season that he should strive to be unique from a fashion standpoint, particularly following Jaguars games. If it's a home game and most players leave in jeans, Garrard wears a sports coat and a crisp shirt. If it's a road game and players are in slacks and blazers for the team flight, that's when Garrard will be in a natty suit. During his planning, Rose works in cooperation with Nolan Roberts of MVP Sports Barber Shop, who handles Garrard's hair.

Speaking of Garrards velvet blazer? Did you know where he wore it to after the game? To the Winghouse! That's the last place I'd expect to find the winning QB from the home team to eat.

Evidently, Garrard only decided to pay the consultant for fashion advice.
