Why should Cam Cameron keep his job? (1 Viewer)

I think Cam should be there another year. I doubt that a new coach is going to make this a playoff team next year with their current talent. That's their main problem right there, the talent is not really there yet. When you have talent like the Bengals or Rams and only 4 or 3 wins difference with the Dolphins, then I could see a valid point about a coach replacement.

Also to Cam's defense, how many holdovers are there still in the coaching staff from Saban's days? At the time of Saban's departure, the team was still in shock when Cam came in. I don't think Cam had a say about defensive staff when he came in. Dom Capers was retained by the organization for the sake of keeping continuity for the team. Who's to say that he's not throwing Cam under the bus for his own agenda. Also, Dom was the one who went after Joey Porter which cost them a good chunk of change when they needed help in other areas at the time. Mularkey is still there as well too (another ex-coach). He did have Jason Garrett on the team before the Cowboys offered a much bigger opportunity.

I think I've given Cameron the benefit of the doubt long enough. Things that he can control are starting to unravel before our eyes. It appears he's lost the support of the team and we seem to be regressing in most areas. I can handle most of the other stuff, but I need progress and leadership and Cam doesn't appear to be doing well in those areas. At this point, I think I'd be ok with a coaching change ... not that my opinion matters in the grand scheme of things.

I'm almost there as well. However, I would only like to change coaches if we also changed GMs. Start fresh. And only if a big fish (Cowher or Parcells) was eager to tackle this massive rebuild.

Funny how many people said that if Parcells or Cowher were here things will be different. Well Bill is "here" now. I was not a fan of firing Cam after one year the way the structure was before. However, with Bill in charge, it does make sense to clean house now so that you don;t have to fire Cam next year. The real question is who will coach now? I was also surprised they let Hudson Houck go as I thought he was pretty good. This last draft doesn't seem too bad because Satele was a great pick, Ginn was supposed to be a pick around the 17th of the draft so taking him early shouldn't be that bad and he looks like he can play in the NFL. his hands have been better than I thought. I do think he is a stiff runner though (for those of you who play EA hockey a guy who has 67 agility but 99 speed). Booker seems like he was drafted too high, but may be able to make some plays. Beck - I wanted Beck to keep playing and give him experience. I do not like his accuracy so far, but the ball does come out of his hands very well and may still be a reliable QB. We won't know until the middle of next year if he gets a shot (which I doubt). Not playing beck a lot more I think was a big mistake. Add that to resigning Zach a few years ago (I was against that), signing Porter (what was the point of that?) and signing Trent Green (see Porter comment)it is all better from here on out though!

He was but he wasn't, he is the only coach that wasn't given permission to talk to other teams, he is complementing retirement and if he dosn't he will be back.

And MIA gets it's second complete rebuild in less than two years. So what's the magic # for Pacells? If he doesn't get 'X' wins in his first year we'll(dolphin fans) hit the panic button and call for his firing?

they let him go as a courtesy so he could interview elsewhere while making up their minds. Many of the "fired" assistants will be reinterviewed. Regarding Houck, Armando's blog:"I have been told that one coach who may not interview again with anyone is Hudson Houck. Houck, believed by some to be among the better offensive line coaches in the NFL, just finished his 25th season and is pondering retirement."

There is no magic number in year 1, just win a few games and show progress with youth and draft picks. These days it should only take 2 years to be competitive

good call by the way.
I do think there are some teams where he could have gone 1-15 and gotten away with it...not many but a few. Miami is not one of them though. I don't hate Cam, and I think it would have been tough for anyone to really succeed this year, however I believe he cost us more than a game or two with his coaching decisions and ultimately that is what cost him the job. It was more than just going 1-15.

???Panic button?Let's go back in time...The year is 1995 and then Head Coach Don Shula is exited out the door by mr Wayne Huizenga for the one and only Jimmy Johnson. JJ does OK with Miami but never gets them past the divisional playoffs and ultimately loses 61-7 to Jacksonville in his last season. The minute that Dave Wanny was hired, you almost knew that bad things were looming on the horizon. And he ran them into the ground. We were left with an interim HC in Jim Bates who was fired or let go at the end of his interim run. Next we had Nick Saban who was welcomed with open arms here in Miami...2 years later he ran back to the college ranks. Finally, we had Cam Cameron and watched a team that had been competitive the past 2 seasons sink like the Titanic down to 1-15. Where exactly did Miami fans hit the panic button? We should have hit it when Don Shula was ushered out but some of us were hitting it repeatedly when Wanny was hired. If anything, Miami fans are naive and allow certain coaches to go too long without any results.

Ummmm, thanks for the song and dance... so what's the #? How many wins do you think Parcell's dolphins should be expected to win next season?

and the suckage continues...This guy has been sucking the life from teams for a while, how does he still have a coaching job? Ray Rice on sunday had 5 carries, the lowest of his career as a starter. So i ask why arent people in the media or anyone on the team not up in arms of what is happening there?

Good point, BAL was an offensive juggernaut before Cam Cameron showed up.They are currently ninth in scoring in the NFL. In the three seasons Cam has been there they are shaping up to finish an average of 11th in offensive scoring. The previous twelve seasons before he got there they averaged 18th in the league in scoring. He's grounded that high flying Raven offense!

I was surprised they didn't wait until after the season was over.
I'm not.The Ravens were #9 in scoring in the NFL. Before Cameron arrived BAL was 24th, 12th, 25th, and 20th in scoring and would have been dominant if they could have had a top ten offense. In the past every loss was supposedly Cam's fault because he didn't run enough. So after a 31-28 loss(only 4 teams in the entire league average more than 28 points/game) when BAL ran 35 times and only passed 23 times... of course they fired the OC.

It's funny looking back on a 5 year old thread with 20/20 hindsight. Samson Satele looking like promising value in exchange for Wes Welker. If only the Dolphins had Brady Quinn, their fortunes would be different. If only Bill Parcells were managing the team, he'd surely lead us to the promise land.

I promise you that Jim Caldwell is NOT the answer!
Caldwell's coaching strategy with the Colts seemed to be "Let your best player win the game for you". If he agrees with us on Rice then maybe hes exactly what the Raven's need.On a serious note, the Raven's play calling was stale, predictable and at times downright horrible. Any change over Cam is welcome.

Caldwell had zero to do with the Colts success. He was a figurehead. To your serious note, Caldwell has never called an offensive play in the league. Although he did do it once in peewee. He was awesome then. Maybe he is the OC figurehead for you guys?! Good luck!
