Why Starks WILL get a shot to start in GB (1 Viewer)

Everyone knows the Green Bay backfield is a crazy situation right now and those who have Brandon Jackson are flustered. For good reason.

However, the real reason Jackson has not been given the reins is because of his value as a 3rd down/receiving back.

If Jackson were to get hurt there is no one left who can protect Aaron Rodgers on 3rd down. Whether it is by picking up a blitzing or free pass rusher or by being available as an option for a dump off Jackson is the most valuable player for Rodgers on 3rd down.

So, since Jackson is so valuable he cannot have the full workload.

Now, why then didn't Green Bay make a move to bring someone else in? Because they drafted Starks. Thompson believes in his draft picks so much that he is unwilling to do anything until he is forced to.

Starks will be given a shot and if it doesn't work out or he gets hurt then Thompson will sign a FA off the street. Until then this backfield will be bunch of the same.

In my opinion the Packers wanted a Ryan Grant/Starks battle for the starting position but injuries derailed that.

In 2011 we will likely see that.

IF he wins playing time, it will be going into a tough schedule stretch starting week 7 with MIN then @ NYJ, DAL, Bye, @ MIN, @ ATL, SF.

But then week 14 is @ DET.

Nope, if Jackson was good enough for the whole workload, he'd have it. I've never heard a team say, "he's too valuable, so we'll play him less".Thompson is stubborn and hates giving up draft picks. The NFL has a pretty strong history of finding RBs from nowhere, so lots of GMs don't feel the need to give up things to acquire RBs.
