Why the Hatred? (1 Viewer)

Maybe I'm old but I agree with Jeffngold. Maybe its genrational, I don't know. I don't have a problem with people disagreeing with someone, thats how good debate begins. Its the unnecesasry rudeness that I've seen increasing around here and its getting stale. One of the problems is that there is no accountability for bad actions. In 'real life' most people would not say or act like they do behind the safe confines of the internet since there aren't any consequences. Maybe we should start giving out 'strikes' to people who are really offensive and on strike three set them on 'ignore'. If a good majority of people do this, they soon won't have an audience.
Who gets to judge what is offensive?
Old people

+1I'm going to sound like a geezer here but I think in a lot of ways the internet is one of the worst things that has ever happened to society, in terms of the way people treat each other. It's easy to be rude and disrespectful to someone when you know you'll never have to face any real consequences.I don't succeed 100% of the time but I try to treat people on the internet the same way I would treat them in real life. But then again I'm on the wrong side of 30 and the internet didn't become a part of my daily life until I was 20 or so.
:goodposting: I absolutely believe it's generation related.

Older generations may have been more respectful but they also had much thicker skin.

I think a lot of what fuels it are people who flaunt their "4 digit" member number as if that has any bearing at all on the value of their opinions or statements on these boards. Some people are more subtle with this than others, and in some cases that makes it even worse.

Oh, so, like the moderators who do this? See sig below for a reference point.

3's are even worse.
Interesting theory given the fact that the premise of the thread is that the board has gone down hill over time.

It has gone downhill over time. Each year some new ppl find the board, and about 80% have nothing to say but insult other posters. Some new posters are good, but the percentages favor the undersirables. It would seem that most would prefer just to attack than actually engage their brains to produce their own opinions on players. In some threads it's unbearable ... Good posters may cite solid reasoning why player X should be expected to break out ... But most responses to this are "you are stupid" or "did you watch the game" etc. It would be nice if the response could disagree based on something valid like "Player X may have looked better than he is because the defense was missing 3 starters" or something.

I especially find it obnoxious when people confuse FF with the NFL. "player X got my 50 points so he's a stud" and when someone replies "he hasn't run well yet, and 48 points came from one defensive breakdown, let's wait to anoint him" the almost certain response is then "you missed him in your draft huh?"

Perhaps if the response has some validity, we can explain why we think this player is going to continue to benefit from "defensive breakdowns" instead of imputing bad motives to the poster who disagrees with us.

We all can improve on this IMO.

 Perfectly rational.

Takes time after there are 3's, until there are 4's...and 5's...

There would be harmony while there were only single digiters.

Slightly less harmony when ten people could cause chaos because they were numerically superior. Increasing entropy as that number became 100 malcontents. You ought to be able to see where that goes. When the 6 digiters start showing up, the place goes nuclear.

I don't agree with the premise, but it's got an inherent logic.

No idea who you could possibly mean, here.

Bingo. Staff needs to figure something out. This is still by far the best place to be during the offseason, but once the games start its 25% info and 75% crap.

I'm talking about Wrigley's accusation that 3 digiters are more of a problem than 4 digiters.

I think that there has been a lot of hate around here lately. Don't see why people feel the need to fight with a total stranger over the internet. What purpose does this serve? People need to ask why they visit the SP.

This board would be a lot better for just posting new, relevant information and some discussion on the impacts of changing events in the NFL and fantasy gaming in general.

Lately, the SP is really turning me off, as there are some people with serious issues. It's gotten far worse when the season started. It's a shame, because I don't feel angry when I jump on the board to read about the events of the day, but sometimes the board leaves me jaded about how people treat each other.

They can only flaunt it however if someone cares.
