I agree that the hype is up there, but to say that the pressure is too much after one game? Come on. It's tough to bat right behind a guy who hits two home runs including a grand slam.

I'm not evaluating this after one game, I'm saying it from the moment every fantasy baseball nerd started creaming over this guy as if he was revolutionizing the sport or something.
5th overall pick out of Georgia Tech in 2007. He was Baseball America's minor league player of the year last year with 1.054 OPS between High A and AA ball. As a hitter, he is often compared to Texiera. He is an above average defensive catcher and has plus makeup. He would have started the year as Baltimore's starting catcher but like Longoria last year, he was held back for the first month plus so his free agency would be pushed back a year. Baseball Prospectus projections if he played a whole year would place Wieters as the top offensive catcher in baseball.
My thoughts haven't changed on him, he started slow in AAA this year too. I just haven't been able to see his at bats, wondering if he is hitting the ball hard, just not for hits. 2-3 yesterday, maybe he is ready to bust out.
I haven't sen all of his games, but in those I did see he wasn't chasing bad pitches so much as he just looked overpowered at times. I think that'll change as he gets used to MLB. He appears to have an idea what he wants to do, but hasn't caught up to ML pitching yet.
