Wilbon calling Vince Young a "punk" (1 Viewer)

Wilborn is always on McNabbs side. he is a chicago boy.
key word here is "boy"?*ducks*Edit: On a more serious note, their PTI show is entertaining but I can't take either of them for anything more than that. I am just dreading the first MNF overtime game that TK does where he starts whining that he needs to go to sleep.

Wilbon didn't use to play the race card much, the last 18 months or so it seems he's now beginning to use the race card A LOT.
that card is played every Sunday morning on `The Sports Reporters` show, ESPN.whether its Wilbon, Stephen A, Saunders, Rhoden, Burwell. Can't get past a sunday, without SOMEONE playing the race card on this show, happens every week.. Wilbon used to be a frequent guest before PTI..
Have you considered that maybe race is actually still a big deal in sports?

Wilbon is one of the best things ESPN has going for it. I don't agree with his views here, but way too many people are just railing on him here in this thread.
Listen, I've always been a fan of Wilbon. I agree he is one of the few people on ESPN I've enjoyed watching. That said, this was the sort of situation that turns my stomach. This is not like an analyst saying a player I like is overrated on the field or typical ball washing/crotch nuzzling of a Favre type- the sort of thing that mildly annoys. Pulling the 'black must support black or they will be publicly ostracized by me' is a credibility killer IMHO. It's unfortunate that a guy as good as Wilbon would throw his own credibility under a bus to blindly support McNabb at any cost, but it will impact how I view this guy going forward.
You do realize that on shows like PTI and Around The Horn THEY PURPOSEFULLY DISAGREE WITH EACH OTHER IN ORDER TO HAVE A DEBATE EVEN IF THEY BOTH AGREE ON AN ISSUE, right? Therefore I think its unfair to stop being a fan of any of them simply due to one view they expresses, which might not even be their true viewpoint.

I've followed Wilbon for over 10 years, and it certainly doesn't kill his credibility for me. I just disagree with him on it, nothing more.
To each his own. If he had some social commentary to offer on this topic that I simply disagreed with, that would be one thing. To refer Vince Young as a "punk" is quite different IMHO. It's hitting below the belt to bully a guy into carrying water for McNabb, and it's well over the line for a casual observer to the situation like me.
"punk" is a commonly used term on PTI...I don't think it carries the same weight on PTI as you think it does.

PTI has gotten "old" and when shows get long in the tooth they start trying new ways of gaining publicity

Wilbon is "old" and starting to say moronic comments more and more...

but this one has taken it to a new personal level

Vince Young is a QB who throughout college used his athletic ability to scape the pressure and make plays instead of developing quicker reads and release, reading defenses etc. While it evidently works in the college level, it will not win you championships in the NFL.
Why can't he be Steve Young, Fran Tarkenton, or John Elway all over again?
I compared him to Steve Young earlier, but I think your Elway comparison is more spot on.

As a Philadelphia fan, I've always been pretty middle of the road with McNabb. No QB , until VY currently, has had to play QB with less weapons than McNabb. That being said, I can't help but notice how well McNabb always plays the "victim". Since draft day when a few radio morons boo'ed because they wanted R. Williams - McNabb has always carried a "poor me" attitude around Philly. Now, once again, he's playing the victim. While that's certainly his right, I think that this mindset keeps him from being the kind of leader that wins his team a Superbowl.

Some people take adverse conditions as use them as motivation - McNabb tends to wallow in them.

No doubt there are SOME fans who might factor in race when evaluating players in any sport...but overwhelmingly, in the sports world at large it's just not an issue these days, esp when compared to what it was like, say, 20 years or more ago. Compared to yesteryear, America, especially, is in a relative golden age of enlightenment compared to it's past in terms of race relations. Are we all the way there yet? No. Of course not. Are things DRAMATICALLY better than not long ago? Yes. Of course they are. I have a completely different take than Wilbon regarding the respect of black elders in the struggle. To me, when young, pampered, adored millionaires like McNabb complain about their hardship it's a disrespectful slap in the face to those who came before them who really did know hardship, exclusion, and struggle.I'm no Cowherd fan, but he put it very well when he said everyone faces bias in life. Everyone. You may be too slow, too fat, too ugly, have the wrong color eyes, talk wrong, be too poor, dress wrong, have the wrong color skin, walk wrong, think wrong, pray wrong, eat wrong, love wrong...whatever it is, there's someone out there who hates it, can't get past it, and is going to hold it against you.

You just have to deal with it and move on. I think this is pretty much the same thing Young was saying in a different way.

How's that exactly?McNabb said black QBs are treated worse by the media, both Campbell and Young said that isn't the case. So on a basic or complex level that seems like polar opposites on any level.

I think he's saying that Young and Campbell's quotes were in agreement with each other, not with McNabb.

There are some serious Vince Young lovers here. To me he is Michael Vick all over again (minus the career ending felony).
Vick led his team to a National Championship and led the nation in passing efficiency? Man, I didn't remember that.
Vick had his team in the National Championship game and posted the second-highest passing efficiency rating in NCAA history actually.

How would it have rated in the NFL rating system? Serious question. I know they differ, just not sure in what respects.
