Would think Eagles fan are happy, Tampa has had their number.

Would think Lions fans would be less happy. Not that Washington is scary, but they've had the Rams/Vikings numbers. Washington is more of an unknown.
So I'm weirdly a lifelong fan of both Detroit and Washington, though my loyalties for next week are clear. One team is playing with house money, the other is Super Bowl or bust.

Anyway, I kind of would have preferred them not playing in the divisional round, but from the Lions perspective, I'm mostly not worried. You are right, though, in the sense that Daniels is a huge wildcard. Could totally see him going on a heater and laying waste to whatever is in his way.

One of my favorite political analysts likes to say, "Worry over everything, panic over nothing." That's kind of where I am with the Lions. Any of the remaining teams is capable of beating them. But Detroit will be favored no matter who they face. So I'm mostly Zen about who that opponent ends up being.

(Also, I spent Week 18 last year rooting for the Rams to lose so that Detroit would face GB in the wildcard round, since I thought they'd be an easier opponent. So what do I know?)

Imagine if Godwin was still healthy. Incredible what the Bucs accomplished without him this year.
Wonder if they bring him back. Would think even with the injury he's the #2 WR on the market. #1 if Higgins stays in Cincy.
I would think the emergence of MacMillan would entice them to let Godwin walk instead of breaking the bank for an older WR coming off a major injury.

Yeah, it’s fair to wonder IF he’ll be back in 2025, as well as when.

That was a significant injury - dislocated foot? 🤢

I remember a Pittsburg pirate catcher who clipped a base the wrong way and did that - I don’t think he was ever the same. Jason Kendall?

Washington can absolutely beat the Lions. They can also beat the Eagles/Vikings/Rams. They have the best QB in the NFC.
Honestly, the two NFC teams that lost today were the only ones I never thought had a chance to win the Super Bowl. Rams, like the Commanders, probably won't win either, but they are both capable of going on heaters (remember, Rams were a 4-seed when they won it all in '21).

Ankle. I'm not a doctor, but I don't think it's anatomically possible to dislocate your foot.

I wanted Washington to win no doubt, but it wasn't because as a fan I feared Tampa Bay. I prefer to play a team that has to travel in back-to-back weeks (for the Vikings it will be back-to-back-to-back) and on short rest.

To be totally cynical about it, Rams are probably the ideal opponent because of everything they’re going through right now with the wildfires

No doubt, plus, Philly totally manhandled the Rams D Line this year. They just weren't big enough to last a full 4 quarters against Philly's line.

That's not the case from everyone I talk to. I'd prefer Washington over the Vikings or Rams any day.

Rookie QB against Glenn
30th ranked defense against the run vs Gibbs and Monty?

I think Detroit is pretty happy.

Best PLAYOFF QB in the NFC? I'll take Goff. Detroit going to truck Washington.

I do think Daniels is already the best QB in the NFC. He has to prove he can sustain it with consistency over the coming years but I don’t see that as an issue. I also love Goff and think he’s very underrated around here because of his pre Detroit book of work. I agree that Detroit is probably winning next week.

"Rookie QB narrative" needs to stop. Daniels is a top-5 NFL player, the best QB in the NFC, and the best QB the Lions have faced other than Josh Allen (who crushed them)

It is definitely possible, but in Godwin’s case you’re correct, he dislocated his ankle - essentially breaking his foot off of the end of his leg.

Regardless of semantics, he broke his ankle & tore tendons, and it’s a grim injury that typically takes a lot longer and more intensive rehab to come back from than just a broken ankle or torn tendon.

First time I’d heard about it was through Kendall’s injury (just looked it up - it was him) - in Kendall’s case it was a compound fracture with bone protruding through skin. As we know from Alex Smith, that adds complexity. I don’t know if that was the case for Godwin.

The point is that I’m not sure we can expect Godwin back at the start of the season. He has a long road ahead to recover.

This game went pretty much how I thought it would. Either team could have won this. Daniels is so tough to get off the field. Can't wait to see how Detroit tries to stop him.

Blitz
Shadow Daniels with Anzalone
Run Monty and Gibbs at will against the 30th ranked run defense to keep Daniels off the field

Washington will need to score touchdowns on every possession to keep up.

I think we are looking at the two best qbs in the nfc. Stafford was at one time but no longer.

Even as a WAS homer, I don’t think JD is as good as Goff. Yet. He will be. But not yet. Goff is so underrated. As are many that don’t perform immediately ( see mayfield and darnold).

Should be a hell of a show on offense. Washington D will have to play way above their ability to get the job done.

Um...

Daniels often finds scramble lanes to punish defenses not staying disciplined with their pass rush lanes. He scrambled 13% of the time against the blitz, more than any other QB, and accumulated more EPA than any QB on his scrambles against the blitz.

Daniels ranked third in EPA per dropback and eighth in dropback success rate among all qualifying QBs against the blitz since Week 1, which speaks to the consistent answers he keeps finding when defenses try to heat him up.

Yea, I think Detroit is gonna roll at home. The Daniels rookie season has been nice, but it ends this weekend.

It just feels so damn good to have a QB. If JD5 stays healthy, sky is the limit.
hes tall and slim. I think they would wanna get him to pack on a few pounds to make him physically stronger. Hopefully they do it slowly so as not to reduce his speed. if he came to camp with an extra 5-10 pounds of lean muscle, hed be far better equipped to take the pounding of an NFL schedule

Everyone saying Detroit is gonna roll all over Washington, have you watched the Commanders this year? They gave Ravens all they could handle, and the stretch where they lost I think 3 of 4 games Daniels was clearly hurt. I’m not saying they should be favored but this team is disciplined, focused, and they believe they can win. Just looking at their execution on 3 and 4th down and their late game success speaks to that. Yes their rushing defense is going to have maybe the hardest challenge this year but the Lions pass defense is poor…which is Washington’s strength. I could easily see another close game and shootout.
