Will John Fox learn? (1 Viewer)

Yes, I am a fantasy addict. But I am also an NFL addict. I am not a CAR fan, nor do I have a crush on DeAngelo. Stats can be misleading at times, but this ain't one of those times. Just take a look and compare these...

Deshaun

247 carries (13th in the NFL)

876 yards (21st in the NFL)

3.5 yards per carry (of the 22 RB's with over 200 carries, only Warrick Dunn had a worse ypc)

3 rushing TD's (of the 27 RB's with over 170 carries, only he, Thomas Jones, and Willie Parker had less than 4 TD's)

5 fumbles (3rd most for RB's, behind only Reggie Bush and Clinton Portis)

Long run of 20 yds (lowest among the 45 RB's with over 112 carries)

25 catches

182 receiving yards

7.3 yards per catch

1 receiving TD

Long catch of 23 yards

DeAngelo

144 carries (37th in the NFL)

717 yards (29th in the NFL)

5.0 yards per carry (only 6 RB's with 144 or more carries had at least 5.0ypc)

4 rushing TD's (one more than Deshaun in 103 less attempts)

1 fumble (he doesn't cough it up)

Long run of 75 yds (4th longest in the NFL)

23 catches

175 receiving yards

7.6 yards per catch

1 receiving TD

Long catch of 30 yards

Deshaun had 1058 total yards in 272 touches. DeAngelo had 892 total yards in 167 touches. Deshaun managed only 166 more total yards in 105 more touches. I've watched them both, and I see no reason that Deshaun is still getting the lion's share. This is not a Fred Taylor/Maurice Jones-Drew (youngster/vet) scenario here. Will someone please tell John Fox that it is time to reverse the workload?

I just heard them talking about this on NFL Radio.

The main problem they said was D-Willy is a horrible blocker and not a very good receiver, if he improves in those areas he will play. If not then look for more of the same next year.

DeAngelo's 65% catch rate is the same as Deshaun's, and he had a better yard per catch average. I would say he is at least as good, if not better than Deshaun in this area already. Deshaun does have the edge in pass blocking, but it's not like Deshaun is head and shoulders above in this category. I think the division of workload goes a bit deeper. Could it be that Fox doesn't want to look dumb because Deshaun just signed a hefty contract?

Impossible that they keep him on the bench next season. There are only two playmakers on that offense ( Steve Smith and Williams ) and they know about it ( He showed them in the last couple of weeks ) so they wont make the same mistake ( Yes it was a mistake and i am surprised Fox still has a job ) next season. As far as blocking is concerned , i watched most Panthers games this season and i dont see where he is a terrible blocker ( He was at least as good as Foster blocking and better receiving ) .So he will start next season and with Delhomme back he could be a top 10 Fantasy and NFL wise .

Pass blocking might have been an essential trait if they had David Carr or Vinny Testaverde under center. But Delhomme and Moore are mobile enough to make up for whatever deficiencies Williams might have.
