Will Portis Last? (1 Viewer)

Portis averaged 3.5 ypc. LJ had 3.0 ypc but only only 3 carries.

Portis has been mediocre at best for over a year, stats wise. How did he look yesterday? Anyone think LJ will be given a real opportunity to unseat Portis?

I say Portis won't last ... he has been beaten up for yearsI say LJ has some miles left ... everyone hates on him but he really hasn't gotten a decent opportunity the past few years.

The job is Portis' for as long as he doesn't get hurt.

He once again levelled blitzers like nobody else in the league - it can't be overstated how good a blocker he is.

He also started to get good mileage on his runs in the second half - 12 yards first half, 51 second half.

Johnson has done nothing to indicate he's an improvement in any area of the game over Portis.

If you're desperately looking for a RB on the waiver wire - I'd still look elsewhere.

 Seems like most people will never realize what a good nfl back Portis is, he may not be a fantasy stud anymore but he does everything very well and makes his team a better team when he is in the game, if he is healthy there is no way he is not playing.... Him and the redskins runing game looked good in the second half last week against a very good defense.

True all around. That said, Portis takes a beating. Dude punishes his body to pick up the blitz. I can't see how he will last the whole season. The bigger issue though is whether or not Portis will produce, and frankly the Redskins O-line just looked awful in the 1st half against Dallas. If they are able to perform more like the 2nd half, Portis could still be a decent RB3 option.

 Given time for the O to gel, Portis will surprise a lot of people this year. Remember, he hasn't had a real QB or a decent coach in WAS since he got there.

He's more motivated, and he still has the legs to make something of that. I'm not a big believer in Tomlinson this year, but it's amazing what a change of scenery can do for someone. He is playing differently. Portis is on the same team, but the scenery around him has changed. I think playoff contention will do wonders for his toughness and statistics.
