Will the Cowboys sit their starters? (1 Viewer)

If they continue to win and have wrapped up homefield by week 17, will they sit their starters? What if they have it wrapped up by Week 15? Could make fantasy very interesting in the upcoming weeks.

I just hope they get one more loss before then. I think they have a solid team, but the fact that they might go 15-1 says more about how bad the so called top teams are in the NFC. Throw in GB, and you could have a 14-2 and a 15-1 team. I think that they are both good, but I just don't see them in the same light as other studly 14-2 and 15-1 teams in the past. Aaron effing Rodgers tore up the Dallas secondary and yet, they could easily still go 15-1.Back on topic, I am starting to get worried about my playoffs. I have Brady, Romo (starts in Flex) and TO. I am really hoping that the Pats don't lose before week 17 otherwise I could be in trouble since my league has a week 17 championship game (I know). I have Derek Anderson and Roy Williams as backups, so I still have startable folks, but when teams sit players, you don't always have an idea on how long they will play.Heck, New Orleans sat all their starters in week 17 last year even though they were 10-6 because their slot was already decided. It makes me worry about any playoff team and most of top guys are on playoff teams.

I'm sure if things are wrapped up by week 17 they will sit or play half.

Owners of Romo, Owens, Barber, etc now need to hope GB keeps winning or Dallas drops one or two (based on the defense sucking, not the offense).

If Dallas does not lose a game, I could see Romo, Owens and Witten all getting week 17 off. But due to the bye week, they will likely play most if not all of week 16 so that they don't get rusty.

:kicksrock: As a TO/Romo owner I will be the biggest Packer Fan for the rest of the season...GO PACKERS!!!

I remember reading an article on Belicheck and he said that he doesn't like to sit his starters cuz he doesn't want them to be rusty and plays them for as long as possible. So other coaches might adhere to that strategy and might play starters all the way through. I'm hoping that's the case, cuz i have TO and Romo on my squad.

:goodposting: Based on the Colts 15-1, lose to Steelers in the playoffs debacle, I don't think we will ever see a team with a bye take week 16 and week 17 off again. 3 weeks without a full game is way too much in my mind. If you want to get the players rest, then you can give them easy practice schedules, but to not play another game until 4 weeks after the last one is way too long in my mind.Unfortunately, for me week 17 counts, so oh well. :D Also, thanks Buffalo, next time recover the GD onsides kickoff. :X

Look at this:

............wk15................wk16..............wk17

Dallas:..Philly-4pm.........@Car-SAT........@Was-1pm

GB:.......@Stl-1pm..........@Chi-1pm........DET-1pm.

Wk15: If GB loses Oakland during the Sunday wk14 early game.......Then they would have 3 losses going into wk15 and Dallas would know the GB outcome when they started their 4pm game. Granted, Dallas would still have to win only 1 more game of the final 3 to have home field advantage, but they'll know at gametime and might pull starters IF they are ahead big vs Philly.

But, for wk 16, Dallas plays on SATURDAY......so they won't have that benefit.

As for wk 17, play at the same time so it's anybody's guess.

Is there some data floating around out there that states how successful a team has been in the playoffs after sitting their starters once they've secured a playoff spot?

GB could win out and it may not matter unless Dallas loses a game before week 16. I believe Dallas has affectively a two game lead now. You need Dallas to lost at least one game before week 17 else it won't matter.

I could see sitting week 17, but if GB and Dallas win out then week 16 Dallas plays Sat. and will only have a 1 game lead on GB (With tiebreaker), so they will still play starters. I like the points earlier where they said you can't sit week 16, 17, first week of playoffs and be ready a month later, get out of here. I don't like that strategy at all.

Two weeks of rest is too much. If I was Philips I would definitely play my starters for at least a half in week 17.

Look at the Colts and all the times they have rested their starters in week 17, very rusty performances in the playoffs, the same goes for the Steelers in 2004 (who were 15-1) and the Chargers, just to name the recent ones.

I'm not worried bout them sitting week 16, cuz I doubt they would rest them that much. My concern is them sitting out week 17, when i'm in the championship game. (Yes, I will be in the championship game). I hope Phillips at least lets them play the first half.

Thats what you get fro being in a league that plays it's CHAMPIONSHIP game week 17.

Exactly. I ran a league a few years ago. All kind a crazy #### happened in week 17. Changed it to week 16

Looking at the schedule and seeing how the Eagles played the Pats, that game could be another loss for the Cowboys. I don't see anyone else beating them.

GB has a cake schedule from here on out.

That really doesn't help the situation at hand. It is what it is. DaTruth

Yeah i'm hoping that Philly is able to take them out and GB wins out, so that forces Dallas to play the remaining weeks. DaTruth

Good post, but wanna catch you on the Rodgers bit... I scoffed at the Pack grabbing him (or any Cal Bear QB.. see Kyle Boller). But like sticking with Hasselbeck, the Pack has stuck with Rodgers, and probably for good reason.... because they saw how capable he was. A few butterflies early, and a tighten passing gameplan, but the guy did pretty dang, if not very good, in a very important game. He wasn't the one who got called (whether correctly or not) for PI, or torched like Al Harris. Kid certainly did more than his share. And let's look at the teams besides New England....Steelers aren't looking too good.... beat might Miami 3-0.. I don't care how muddy/bad the field was.... 3-0, you're the Steelers not the 2000 St Louis Rams. Lost to the Jets too.and let's look at how well Jax (which many feel is the #3 team in AFC) fared vs the NFC:Jax got crushed by NFC powerhouse New Orleans, beat Atlanta AT HOME by only 6, Tampa Bay by 1, All those "cruddy" 5-6 NFC teams vs the AFCARZ - 2-1DET - 2-0MIN - 2-1PHI - 2-1WAS - 2-1CHI - 3-1NOR - 1-3------------14-8I know there's more than just numbers, but everyone is blatantly following along with the premise that the NFC is soft top to bottom.

Same here, especially since Favre is my starter (with Derek Anderson backing him up) in my 2nd money league. Romo's carrying me in my first league.
