Bill Gates Backs Nuke Plant ... Looks like it's all private investment (well private US investment anyway) funding this.

He's dropped a lot of $ on something he probably won't live long enough to see go into production if it actually works.

Discuss.

 
Nuclear energy should be a larger part of our infrastructure. If properly engineered, built, maintained and regulated years ago we would be in a better place now.

Yep, the Navy has operated 100's of ship over the past 50 years with stellar results. Sure there are concerns, but I think those are concerns engineers can address.

 
As usual, I haven't a clue about how feasible the science of the TWR is (or how economical the operation itself will be) but I'm happy that somebody is working on it because it uses spent fuel rods from traditional nuclear plants for power. If they come in cheaper to build and operate (again, I have no idea nor even a guess as to its feasibility in principle) then these are a big win on a couple of fronts.
