Wille Parker (1 Viewer)

Seems like most experts rank Fast Willie anywhere from 5-8. A 16 overall TD season would seem to warrant this. But I have read a few articles here on the FBG Blogger that concern me (summaries below). Curious if you are cool with FWP as your RB1 ...

1. Steelers RB Willie Parker carried the rushing load last season, but he wouldn't mind having someone in the backfield to help with some of the carries. "I think the two-back system will work very well here in Pittsburgh," said Parker, who indicated that sharing the load can help make his career last longer. That help could come from veteran RBs Najeh Davenport and/or Kevan Barlow. "Those guys are great running backs," said Parker. "I think those guys will bring great things to the offense."

2. Steelers RB Willie Parker is cool with new HC Mike Tomlin's intent to use more than one back to run the ball next season. Parker could be upset by such a change, considering he rushed for 1,494 yards last season and scored 13 touchdowns. "You can't really turn selfish," Parker said of the probability of his getting fewer than the 337 carries he had in 2006. "I've been with two backs basically my whole career except last year, really. We wanted two backs, but we never really got in that situation where they put a lot of confidence in the other back."

3. New HC Mike Tomlin believes the Steelers need to find a second back to complement RB Willie Parker, and that back could be on their roster. If you look at New Orleans, Deuce McAllister is a power man, Reggie Bush is speed. If you look at New England, Corey Dillon is power, Laurence Maroney is speed. "You have to have the ability to have a change of pace offense, to attack people in different ways. Central, from the perimeter, having the ability to play both in the game at the same time and go two-back or one-back. It just gives the defense more things to work on. It's just part of today's NFL."

The Steelers don't have another back on the roster that is even in the same zip code of talent as FWP. Barring injury, He's a lock for 325-350 touches.

I'd take him at #5 and be thrilled if was still there for me if I had the 8-spot.

Agreed. Very few realize he went for 1,700 yards and 16 tds. I've seen him drop out of the FIRST round in a 10 team redraft. 1,700/16, and he's dropping? Are you kidding me? He should be a top 5 pick, but he rarely sniffs the top 5. He's basically Rudi with home run ability. He went over 200 twice last year. Yes the Ravens kicked his ###. But a little secret, if your league ends week 16, Parker only faces the Ravens once. Score.

No reason to think RBBC in Pittsburgh this year. I think the Steelers will also get FWP more involved in the passing game.

FWP is fine. He's their feature and as of right now their GL back and served well in that capacity last year. They don't have anyone on the roster even close to him in talent.

It's not at all uncommon for coaches and running backs to be quoted in the summer months expressing how important it will be for "more balance" or to "lighten their load" or to have someone "share the touches." Tiki Barber used to send chills down fantasy owners spines every offseason as he would express giddiness over the prospect of giving up short yardage duties, Brian Westbrook has said "all the right things" about having a bruising back like Tony Hunt to help share the load.

But when the pads come on and every win counts, talent surmounts all. FWP is, far and away, the best back on that roster and the team isn't going to stop exploiting him until either a) the season is over or b) he comes up gimpy.
