Willis McGahee broken ribs - OUT indefinitely (1 Viewer)

This is all I've heard so far:

"ESPN's John Clayton reports Willis McGahee likely suffered a cracked or badly bruised rib Sunday and could miss up to two weeks.

Impact: While we expect to get more information early this week, Clayton reports that because McGahee needed to be carted off the field, his injury is not likely one he'll be able to play with by wearing a flak jacket. Anthony Thomas appears to have a good chance of starting in Week 10."

In the league I have Willis I handcuffed him with A-Train and I don't care if Willis sits out 4-5 weeks. A-Train runs harder and he's already scored the same amount of TD's Willis has in about his last 15-16 games. If Willis ran harder and did not allow himself to be finger tackled(the announcers words not mine) he'd have scored a TD yesterday and there would have been no need for him to be on the field for the carry that got him hurt. On the year Willis has scored one TD while A-Train has come on in relief of Willis twice when Willis went down and scored both times. At this point, I'd rather have A-Train.

I believe A-Train was the RB when Jauron was the coach in Chicago. He should have some idea of how to use him properly. He could be a very productive WW pickup if McGahee misses significant time.

I think he likely misses at least 2 games.
Mybe he only misses a game or two but it really hurts his productivity from here out- remeber how the broken rib slowed down LT last year? obviously Willis is no LT - back to the trade phones for me!

Bills | McGahee has broken rib

Mon, 6 Nov 2006 10:34:11 -0800

Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills RB Willis McGahee (rib) suffered a broken rib. Head coach **** Jauron said it's the ninth rib which was broken. He added McGahee will undergo more tests Monday, Nov. 6, to examine it further. The ninth rib is high on the torso by the lung, which could open the door to more problems if he tries to play with the injury. The team is not ready to declare him out for Week 10.

You'd think NFL players could play through broken ribs. Put a flack jacket on that puppy and let him run.

They can't do anything for broken ribs anyway. Though I guess he could risk a punctured lung. But he has two of them!

I take it you've never had a broken rib.

Actually I have (Played some semi-pro indoor ball). Other than some discomfort it wasn't that big of a deal. Haven't there been other players to play with broken ribs?

Yes, LT last year but it hampered him quite a bit.

A-Train could be a nice player to obtain right now with the Bills upcoming schedule. I had Willis pegged for a 2nd half explosion, so naturally I grabbed A-Train :30 after McGahee went down.I hate to be happy about an injury but I bet that Turner owner wished he didnt try to jack up the price for MY handcuff right about now. :D

I doubt they're all the same, for one. To say it's not a big deal is silly. What position did you play with your broken rib?

Kicker

Thinking about blowing the rest of my bid money on ATrain. He always does well when hes filling in. Just remember 2 years ago in Chicago he did fairly well.

:wall: GDB deciding that handcuffs are a waste of space in a dynasty league.

Dropped Seneca Wallace... two weeks later I lose Hass.

Dropped Thomas... two weeks later I lose McGahee.

Kicker
 :lmao: :penalty: Running back and linebacker.

I'm not saying a 100% A-Train isn't better than a 50% McGahee. But he should be able to play with a broken rib.

I broke my ribs early in the first half of a game and sure, I knew something didn't feel right, but I finished the game. Felt a little sore and short of breath for a few days. Went to the doc and as soon as he said there really isn't anything they can do other than tell me to rest I continued playing.

Like I said, other than some shortness of breath (because it was a little harder to breath) and some minor discomfort it wasn't that hindering.

Ofcourse the best thing for McGahee would be to rest and get back to 100% since he's getting paid millions of dollars and is the face of that franchise. I'm just making the case that if it were crunch time in the playoffs and even at 50% he was heads and shoulders better than anyone else they had, he could play. Especially after a cortizone shot and a bunch of Ben-Gay.

I dropped Anthony Thomas this past weekend to pick up a Kicker since Akers was on a bye (did not want to risk losing Akers in a dynasty league). I have been keeping Thomas all along and now this happens. Time to use all of my bidding bucks for ATrain I guess on the WW. :wall: :wall: :wall: :bag: :bag: :bag:

I was counting on Willis for the stretch run - A Train is on our WW but I wouldn't count on him to get it done down the stretch. I am going hunting for a new #2 RB - grab A Train if no other option but wouldn't stake my stretch run on it!

Any chance Shaud Williams ends up carrying the workload? Thomas did OK yesterday but it's been 3 years since he was a starter in this league.

Did Ok? 20 rushes for 95 yds. and a TD. Wow, hopefully maghee was watching what it looked like getting into the ENDZONE!!!!

I am not a big Atrain fan. He has failed many places. He does have Indy and Houston, but the Bills are going to get hammered against the Colts and will nto be able to run enough. Houston is a nice match up but then Jax and San Diego, I wouldn't call that schedule great! Do you really think Atrain is a fantasy teams answer at this time of year?

When he gets the chance he always succeeds. I really dont know why he doesnt get more love in the NFL:From 2004 when he replaced Jones for 3 games:

Ouch. Not good news for any Buffalo offensive players (not that there was much to start with).

I traded his monkey butt yesterday morning at 11:45am. :pickle:

Jumping on the "slowest" train is never a good move when it's obvious the best route is by "air"! Why in the world would anyone real fan think Buffalo would use Thomas the way they used McGahee??? Apples and Oranges......better check the waivers for an "air option" for Losman beyond Evans. The Bill's will throw 40 times a game now! :wall: :wall: :wall: :o

A-Train got 20 carries yesterday but hey, don't let facts get in the way of an arguement.

Maybe I am too optimistic, having just picked Thomas off the ww, but it seems as though fresh legs can be very effective at this point in the season. Thomas should have the opportunity be the primary ball carrier over the next several games, and the Bills schedule is very favorable. I don't think anyone should rely on him to carry there team, but the opportunity is there, and a well rested running back could prove to be a nice boost to the Bills offense.

Frankly I am a little suprised there has not been more talk on this injury.

Whats the talk in Buffalo? Is he out this week?

I picked up A-Train this week. Not only is he going up against one of the worst rushing defenses in NFL history, but I'm playing against the McGahee owner this week. :excited:

There is no way that the Bills even come close in this game, but I can guarantee you that they'll be running the ball as much as possible early in the game and trying to let their defense keep them close. A-Train will end up with about 60 yards rushing before halftime and my guess is he'll get a garbage time TD finishing with about 85 yards rushing and a TD.

Oh, and the Bills have officially listed McGahee as being out this coming Sunday.

Bills RB McGahee Injury More Extensive Written by: Chris Brown ¦ 11/8/2006

Source: www.buffalobills.com

Bills head coach **** Jauron said on Monday that more extensive tests would be performed on Willis McGahee after the initial diagnosis of a broken ninth rib. The second round of tests unfortunately revealed more damage.

"It is more extensive than we thought," said Jauron. "It's not just the ninth (rib), but he also has cracks in the eighth and tenth ribs."

McGahee will not play this Sunday at Indianapolis as Jauron ruled him out this week.

"Willis is out for this game and we'll have to see how quickly he can come back from his injuries," said Jauron.

When asked for a timetable for McGahee's return Jauron would only take it as far as this weekend is concerned.

"I wouldn't guess past this week because I don't know how long it will keep him out," Jauron said. "But it's serious enough for us at this point to say he won't play this week. Then we'll have to see how it progresses. Some of it will have to do with the healing process and some of it will have to do with the pain tolerance. I think we all know that this guy has a tremendous level of pain tolerance. This is really a tough guy so that won't be an issue. But the extent of the injury is something we'll have to keep monitoring as we go along."

Veteran running back Anthony Thomas will start in McGahee's place for Buffalo Sunday.

Looking like I will get him back in time for my playoffs, don't know how effective he will be though. Wouldn't S. Williams get used quite a bit while he is out ? The Bills really aren't in the playoff hunt, shouldn't they be looking at the younger backs ? I assume they know what A-train can do.

Sorry, drank my lunch again...........Was wondering if anyone thinks that the Bills may take this as an opportunity to see what they have in their other rb's besides A-train.
