WIS V All-Time Baseball Draft: HARRRRRRRIFIC (1 Viewer)

2 quick rule clarifications -

1. All seasons of all players are eligible, correct? So everyone could end up with a Babe Ruth?

2. Can a single team take multiple season of a person? So I could possibly end up with Tom Brunansky starting in LF, CF, and RF if I so choose?

Also, as a brand new guy, I kind of dig what I've seen from WIS so far, and don't care about any real disadvantage I get by not having used it before. I'm in it for the fun, and it looks fun.

Just an FYI, but the new OOTP doesn't come out until May 31 and you have to import your own historical figures if you want to use them since they run into the same licsencing problems as WIS.

I still don't understand how an entity owned by Fox, doesn't get to use player's names.  It has to be one of the most ###-backwards things I've ever seen.  I can't reinterate enough how stupid MLB is.
It's pretty easy to use the Lahman database with OOTP though. The draft could be done using a master spreadsheet spun off from that db.I have OOTP 6 but haven't played it in awhile.
TreSheet :coffee:
Downloaded the new Lahman db yesterday. :money:

Took about 1,000 bugmenot attempts, but I finally got to the Times article.

I can see where MLB is going with this.

Taken to its exteme conclusion, MLB would have me fork over a license fee if I answer "Nap Lajoie" at my local pub on trivia night. But of course it will never get to that point. But I can understand them wanting a major entity like FOX to pay up. Unfortunately for MLB, they have to get into a very specific and pointed argument to prove their position. They have to justify why the nth degree is obligated to pay a fee or get permission, and that's just going to look real bad.

1. No Ruth only played 22 seasons we have 24 teams...but all 22 seasons can be used2. Yes Bruno rules

The worst you can do is finished last, although since I'm playing you'll have someone battling you for that spot :boxing:

Bright side: You won't be #24 in Harrrrrrrr's rankings

1.-I think the WIS databade goes as far back as 1885, so that is the cutoff.2.-Yes.

WIS is pretty cool-lots of features and info there. The forums can be very helpful as well. I don't think there is any huge advantage from using WIS in the past, but there are some things we've learned that we agree are very difficult to explain. Like the impact of your ballpark. Or the order of your lineup. Stuff like that.

someone please explain to me like I'm 10, what is going on with the names on WIS.....I don't care to play if it's going to be names we have to look up to see who they really are

OK, 1. If you have an exhibition team from before April 15, you get all the old names. When you buy a new team, you'll get the crazy things, but you can change the names back fairly easily before the season

2. If you signup now, all the current players have crazy identifiers...HOWEVER....their ranking number (i.e. 1,2,3,) links to the BBR page that tells you the player's name. like above once you draft a team, you can change all the names easily before the season

I'd say we should make the name change manditory.

Isn't this Koya's Cult? Surprised a man of science such as yourself is an adherant.

Can someone help a brutha out give me the Cliffs notes version of the past 25 pages regarding rules, eras, etc?

TIA

Any good shtick worth reading in this burgeoning behemoth?

No, I'm not in Koya's cult :X especially on the lineup part in a simulation. I think the ballpark matters a little, but not nearly as much as he thinks, especially as you cap goes higher since all the guys are studs no matter what.

All-Time draft...every year for every player is available. DH is still in doubt.Only shtick is Nipsey's koya hate. Not Acedemy Award worthy.

Some decent stuff, if you are bored, it's a decent read.Where is Koya at?

As long as the name change is made avaliable, this really isn't a big deal. It is the exact same player, and it'll only take us 5 minutes to give our entire roster the exact same names that they should have anyway. Easy loophole here, seems like a non-issue.

Also, FWIW, MrJimmy... OOTP doesn't have player naming rights either, you have to get those from a 3rd party. (ex. Lahman database)

I went with Doubles and triples guys in WISIII and used Kaufmann Stadium. It worked well for me* *=I finished HIGHER THAN HARRRRRRRRR

The ballpark does come into play.

 , people over at WIS are #####ing about people using name like Hugh Butt

A couple of guys confirmed that after you confirm your team in "Spring Training mode" that WIS allows you to edit names. I haven't confirmed it myself, but I take their word on it.

What I did last night with the exhibition team I did to try out WIS is to just make sure and keep track of everyone I drafted. After the draft, they give you until the 4th day of the official season to edit your players names. It's really, really easy. Also, so there is so salaray cap for this, correct?

Sad news for those that love the A+++ range guys:

Kyle, to add onto an earlier question, do you have any idea what's going to be included in the "Range Factor Update"? Also, will testing be conducted for it over at the test site? (ozomatli - Hall of Famer - 11:48 AM)

We'll run several internal test leagues and then 1 outside test league on our test server. Basically, all fielders with the same letter grade will be handled the same (pre-normalization for fielding era).

I think it's safe to say that the A++++++++ guys are useless this time around.

Right, no salary cap. However, since we are making all seasons elligible this time, it is entirely possible that we could run in to cap issues with the $255 million.

Really? I wasn't sure if you could have a team over. I guess that eliminates that concern.

So do we need to try to stay under the 225?

NO

BTW what is the estimated starting date for this thing?
Can't speak for Harrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, but I'd assume at the conclusion of the stadium draft.
When has the conclusion of the stadium draft ever stopped us from starting the real draft?
Good point. Is it safe to put GWB on the clock? (without a timer of course)Edit to add: I'm pretty sure Harr wanted to conduct some discussions/votes on the DH and on trading.

are non-MLB seasons eligible?

also, I'd like to add another vote for using a DH

I need an ***Official*** ruling on the participation of Nipsey, Capella, GWB, and Rude Dude.
Nipsey and Capella
Hmmm.....this is a problem for me. They are most of the reason I showed back up. Drafting players for a 5th time and not giving a #### how it plays out is sort of the reason I wanted to stop playing in the first place.
