WIS V All-Time Baseball Draft: HARRRRRRRIFIC (1 Viewer)

Don't know where Pump is, but I take:1.05: 1922 Rogers Hornsby

.401 avg, 42 HR, 17 SB, .459/.722/1.181

Bill James calls Hornsby’s 1922 season the best by a second baseman ever. A little Hornsby story from the Abstract:

“1925 Hornsby was on the field, arguing loudly with Art Fletcher, when all of a sudden, without warning, he punched Fletcher in the face. Later a reporter asked him why he had hit Fletcher.

‘Well,’ replied Hornsby very seriously, ‘I wasn’t making any progress trying to talk to him.’”

So he’s feisty. He’s a great player. And he plays a position where the great seasons aren’t quite as plentiful as some others. I’m very happy to start my first ever WIS/FBG/BBT team with Rajah.

Bogart isn't going to like this one bit.
 I love me some Rajah. Not sure if I would go with '22, but you really can't go wrong there. And yes, I was trying to get GWB to take Hornsby first over all.

That would have been a minor upset if the Babe didn't go first

agreed. But when you look at their numbers and then the numbers of what can replace them......ehh, who am I kidding. I have major man-crushes on about 5 baseball players and Rajah is one of them.

I not really sure I want to even do this - not enough time, not enough shtick, not enough patience for shtick - and I don't really want this ######## on my team but I guess I'll have to take:

1.06 Bonds 2002

The "I don't want to be here but yet here I am" shtick is good shtick.

Not to ruffle any feathers, but I have '22 as Hornsby's 3rd best season...

Edit: Had it sorted weird, 3rd best...

Is "I've quit already, but I'd be more than happy to take your spot should you decide to leave" shtick taken?

No, seriously - I don't like the way this is started off, Nipsey scares me. I'm afraid he is going to pick on all the people in this draft and have his minions in the Hockey draft also pick on us. I don't like iDrama or all this tension. Can't we all just get along? Nipsey, if I knew anything about Hockey (sans Gretzky) I would be down with the Hockey draft - please don't interpret my being in the baseball draft as anything more than having no Hockey knowledge at all.

One other thing - are there going to be any pitchers drafted after 1919? I mean are there going to be 10 Hoss Radbourns for every one Tom Seaver?

Not to ruffle any feathers, but I have '22 as Hornsby's 5th best season...
I don't have it that low, but I don't have it as his best either.HARDCORE :nerd: CHAT!!!!!!!!

:dih:
Stop drooling over Hornsby and start researching our next pick and/or stadium.
You realize we pick again sometime in July, right?
It's never too soon to prepare.
You know that I am just going to push my next available man-crush on you, promising minutes of bliss if we take him and then not delivering. How much preparing do I need to do for that?

Depends on who it is. I have my own ideas for the next selection already.

Don't look now, but Bogart is getting all homo-vibey on us again...
Sorry, I watched Ken Burns Baseball Disc One last night...... almost had to wake the wife up to play some "pepper" afterwards.

I think WIS I has proven that olde tyme pitchers are overrated (see Radbourn, Old Hoss and Gomez, Lefty).

Things that make us happy after the wife goes to bed is sad but true shtick.

Nope. There will be plenty of modern pitcher seasons drafted.
Pauly Q?
You better recognize, #####es...
No Larry_Boy = No you in this draft.Sorry big guy.
Your mistake, friend...
Don't make me draft you and then make you a starter with a hard pitch count in the 100s. You will learn a new definition for "fatigue". :boxing:

You like the other year better? I can't say who is right or wrong, as they are both great, but I really preferred '22.

WIS nerds will note that '22 is the obvious choice, but there are other choices if you're a fan of normalized metrics.

Not to ruffle any feathers, but I have '22 as Hornsby's 3rd best season...

Edit: Had it sorted weird, 3rd best...
Bill James ranks '22 as the best season by a second baseman ever. ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY YOU'RE SMARTER THAN BILL JAMES!!!11!!!111!11
