I tried to include the popular choices but some were probably left out. More stats found here

Edit: Utley added

the AL discussion should start and end with the best player on the best team

Ordonez should be the AL MVP

if the yankees make the playoffs you can throw AROD is the discussion

Howard is coming on and if he continues like this for the rest of the season and they somehow make the playoffs, he could be the winner. But Utley has been the driving force of this team all season and if the season ends right now, he is definitely the MVP candidate for the team.

Normally I would agree, but ARod is having his best season ever and has the Yanks back in the playoff discussion. Once the Yanks take over the AL East, it will be elementary.

Yanks are in the playoff hunt. This should be ARod in a landslide especially considering his heroics this season. Yanks would be 15 GB without him.

I'm stil going with my early season prediction on the MVP's: Utley and A-ROd.

My Cy Young choices though ( Hamels and Pettite) aren't looking as good.

I vote for Sabathia.

I realize you left him off due to the fact of being unable to choose from CC and Fausto, therefore leaving them both off.

Suprised Putz and Verlander got a vote each so far...

I think Haren/Beckett/Santana are a tier above the rest when looking at just stats.I had Sabathia in there at first. Looked at his numbers and while he's pitched some gems, he has a 5.80 ERA in his last 8 starts. His overall numbers are still solid 13-5/3.70/1.20. Which is comparable to Dice-K/Bonderman/Wang etc. Carmona has been stellar, but I think most feel Sabathia is the stronger candidate. You can also make a case for Escobar/Lackey/Bedard etc. The AL is packed with solid pitchers.

With roughly 60% of the season done, Who would you give the awards to

this is the question, and as of 60% of the season done, does it matter how many more games back the yankees would be without AROD?

not being in the playoffs by 2 games or 15 games is still not making the playoffs. you can't give the MVP to a player on a team that would not be in the playoff. If/When the yankees become the wild card team or divsion leader then he should be in contention to win the MVP

Don't forget Andre Dawson!

Went ARod, Haren, Reyes, Penny.

Hardest choice was Reyes over Fielder, but with the Cubs coming on so strong, I think the Brewers are going to fade a bit down the stretch. Also, if Zambrano keeps pitching as he has lately, he's going to run away with the Cy Young.

 I went with Fielder now, but I can see that scenario taking place.

Anyone who didn't vote for Arod either isnt man enough to vote for a guy they don't like, or hasn't been watching baseball this season.

Right now the NL MVP has to go to Utley, but IMHO, if the Braves can grab Texiera and bat him cleanup, Chipper is going to see a ton of better pitches and could make a late push.

AROD is fun to watch, he is carrying my fantasy team, but imho MVP is the best player on the best team.AROD maybe the best player, but Mags is the best player on the best team

AROD is having a season for the ages. When considering this is very unlikely to be one of the steroid boosted seasons we have seen by so many over the last decade, AROD is having a historically good season. 184 OPS+? And the only reason his team is still in the race.I agree that the MVP should go to a team in contention, which (because of AROD) the yanks are, and that being on the best team gives bonus points, just not enough bonus points to come close to showing that someone else is more valuable to their team than AROD and his historic season is to his team.

If the season ended today it would be ARod, Beckett, Utley, Penny.

Unfortunately, Utley is out 4-6 weeks so he is out of consideration. Penny is now on his annual injury swing and will drop out of contention. Beckett - give him a few more starts and he will be injured.

That probably means -

ARod

Haren

Fielder

Young

If Ryan Howard won the NL MVP award last year despite his team not making the playoffs, then A-Rod already has the AL MVP award locked up this year.

A-Rod -- he has carried the Yankees offensively at times this season.

Haren -- pretty dominant almost every start.

Utley -- best all around player in NL.

Young -- fantastic stats
