Worst 1st and 2nd round picks ever! (1 Viewer)

I drafted both prior to preseason and am lucky to be 1-1 at this point. Gotta love winning and getting 0 points from your 1st 2 picks.

Could there be a worse combo from the 1st 2 rounds?

A buddy of mine, on Aug 24, drafted Portis and Dom Davis near the turn of the 1st and 2nd. See? It could be worse.
He could have drafted Lamont Jordan and Randy Moss at the turn. At least there is hope for Portis and Smith.

One of my friends drafted middle of that week from the 6 hole of a 12 team draft. Started out:PortisSSmithRMossDDavis (thought he got a steal this late)Needless to say, he's 0-2 now.

I drafted Portis two hours before he got hurt and Davis as well (when the next day it came out he was likely done for the year even though he had practiced recently). Add in Aaron Brooks at QB and you have a recipe for disaster.

Luckily I was the 1st team to draft a QB and got Peyton at 3.4!

Here is my roster. PPR league. 1st year keeper league. I feel pretty good overall.

Manning, Peyton IND QB

Grossman, Rex CHI QB

Leinart, Matt ARI QB

Portis, Clinton WAS RB

Addai, Joseph IND RB

Williams, DeAngelo CAR RB

Moats, Ryan PHI RB

Morency, Vernand GBP RB

Suggs, Lee MIA RB

Smith, Steve CAR WR

Clayton, Michael TBB WR

Edwards, Braylon CLE WR

Evans, Lee BUF WR

Jurevicius, Joe CLE WR

Cooley, Chris WAS TE

Lewis, Marcedes JAC TE

Graham, Shayne CIN PK

Bears, Chicago CHI Def

I drafted in July. My first 5 rounds were:

Clinton Portis

Domanick Davis

Ron Dayne

Deion Branch

Thomas Jones

:wall: :wall: :wall:

Still, if you think that Portis/Smiff are the worst 1/2 combo ever, you're in for a rude awakening. Check out last year's ADP. Imagine drafting at the turn and going Kevin Jones/Daunte Culpepper last year- and then, on the way back around, grabbing Nate Burleson and J.J. Arrington.

The lesson? 50% of draft picks bust. :)

Last year, I drafted Deuce McAllister, Marc Bulger and Andre Johnson (with two other keepers - Rudi and someone else)

I drafted Portis in the 1st and Housyourmama in the 5th (+ kevin jones in the 3rd).......i'm lucky to be 1-1 thanks to the rest of my team which is pretty strong....

i'm a cowboys fan, but portis will have a HUGE year, which was confirmed by the plays he made in his limited time on the field in game 1. i think he will be ok health-wise. we reward rb's big-time for catches and receiving yards in my league, and i'll think he will have plenty of both.

houshyourmama should be a solid play once he gets back on the field....i'll have to say, at this point, as he's questionable again for week 3, his injury has been more frustrating than portis'

kevin jones will have a good year once their offense gets going. they have an easier stretch of games coming up which should get them going.

RON DAYNE???????

I remember one year where I was fortunate not to have drafted in the 6th spot as I would have picked Jamal Anderson and Testaverde, both of whom were out for the year within the first 3 weeks. Now that's bad.

Portis and Smith could both easily finish strong.

Chad Johnson

Edge

edge was a keeper from last year, i figured only a 2nd round pick, was worth it.

CJ, since I had palmer already I couldn't pass on him.

needless to say I am 0-2 but thats not so my fault...205pts against isnt something easy to beat :(

One of my members went FWP in rd.1 and followed it up with Mike Bell??? in rd.2 and Chester in rd.3. I can appreciate wanting a stable of RB's......but that is one weak stable.....He may have a crystal ball so I better wait until week 7 or 8 to really place judgement. But it sure made for some better picks for the rest of us! The guy that drafted this way has been involved for many years....so the "rookie" equation is not a factor. I'm just concerned......the Pittsburgh and Denver running game sucks alot of guys in.....but by passing up on Jackson, Johnson, McGahee, Portis, Edge, Westbrook, Brown and Williams may have been a vision???? All I know is I got Jamal Lewis, Fred Taylor and Ahman late. And these guys were ignored by alot of drafters this year, .............so if W. Parker, M. Bell and C. Taylor become 1,400 yd. 12-14 TD guys......his "crystal ball" might pull him out of his 0-2 start. And this guy has his name on our "Perpetual Golden Football" trophy 3 times in the last 8 years. :football:
