Would this ever happen? McNabb to Minnesota or Chicago? (1 Viewer)

Consider that teams can spend 20+ years looking for even a decent long-term solution at QB. The Cardinals have been looking for 20 years, since Lomax in the 80s. The Redskins have been looking for 20 years since Thiesmann in the 80s. Colts looked for 20 years before finding Manning. The Bears and Lions have been looking for stability at QB since at least the 1950s. The Buccaneers have never had a true franchise QB in team history. You could even argue the Jets have never had a franchise QB in their history since Namath didn't have an incredible career but just one incredible win in super bowl III.McNabb is a franchise QB. That is an extremely rare commodity. You don't just dump one to another team. There's every reason to think the Eagles won't find a replacement until 2027, or 2057. The odds are far better that McNabb rebounds and plays better in future years than they are that the Eagles will find someone his equal. I'd live with the ups and downs and ride him into the ground, like the Pack is doing with Favre.
Mcnabb is not good enough to win a Super Bowl in this offense. PERIOD. Philly is beyond settling for 9-7 or 10-6 seasons, all they want is the Super Bowl. Mcnabb had his run, but it's over...he's not going to get us there, not in this offense in this city. So we might as well move on. He's not going to succeed in Philly. There are tons of teams who hold onto guys out of loyalty like Marino, Steve McNair, Brett Favre, etc..guys that are never going to get you to the next level.
As much as I like McNabb, I think he time in Philly is over... not because of a skills on his behalf( I'm one who thinks he's still not even close to back to form) but because I feel that the HC doesn't put him in/or surround him with the talent that best uses his skillset.

Even though Kolb was the 2nd best rated QB in the draft by many he is going to be playing in a WEST COAST offense. He is raw but very skilled and it would be best to bench him for 3 years. Drafting early for West Coast QB only seems to make sense. Young had time to learn. Shaub is doing rather well and Rogers will greatly benefit in Green Bay. Unless Reid goes, McNabb will probably play at least another year or two. If Reid goes then all bets are off as the new coach could clean house and start rebuilding like Herm did in KC. If your a Phili fan - Just Say No.

As a MN fan I don't want to see us get McNabb his best days are over like C-Pepper. We need a QB, but rather see us draft one in 2008, cut loose TJ, and let the All Day (AP) show continue. McNabb to Bears sounds good to me.

As a Bears fan I don't want McNabb as my QB. I don't want a band-aid on a severed limb. I would love to have the '04 McNabb but no one seems to know where he went.
As a Bears fan, I'd buy his plane ticket to Chicago. A bandaid would be much better than the salt we're throwing on our quarterback wound right now. At least McNabb could do something....I also don't think getting McNabb would preclude the Bears drafting a QB or getting a young guy to bring a long via free agency.

That being said, it would all depend on the price tag for McNabb. The OP mentioned getting "a return guy"... if that return guy is named Devin Hester, forget about it.
LOL at trading Hester. No shot of that. The Eagles would probably take a 3rd, which I think is reasonable. Berrian, Olsen and Moose are much better than the dreck at WR that Philly has, so I think McNabb could turn things back around pretty quickly.
As a Bears homer, I agree. I'd buy his plane ticket and carry his shopping bags from Jewel/Osco.I think the probelm is clearly with the leg injuries he's suffered, hence the poor throws. I think McNabb is still not 100 % and it will take an offseason for him to fully heal.

I can also see Chicago making a run at a QB in the draft, say a Matt Ryan or Brian Brohm, depending on how they finish up the season.

Philly fan. I want Mcnabb gone and to start the Kevin Kolb era. In this offense, this version of the west coast offense, you have to be accurate on short passes and make quick reads. Mcnabb can't do it. His ACL injury obviously got him off to a bad start, but now he simply can't read the field well and is making poor decisions. He may get better as his ACL heals, but I think Mcnabb was auditioning this year for next year, and he failed miserably. It's kind of like he has a 10%. He can work hard and bring his grade up to a 59%, but he can't pass for the year, since we aren't making the playoffs. Mcnabb probably still is better than some QB's out there (Bollinger, Holcomb, Tavaris Jackson, Alex Smith, Kyle Boller, Brian Griese, Steve Mcnair, Cleo Lemon) so some teams should want him. In a longer passing offense that is not WCO, he might be OK, especially if his knee heals even better.
I love Philly fans. You won't win with Kolb, put him in right now and all the Philly fans that are killing McNabb will be lamenting about how bad Kolb looks. Let Kolb sit on the bench for a year or two and let him learn the game, then you might get a decent QB out of him.But by all means keep calling for McNabb to be traded, I hope to god you deal McNabb and fire Reid this off-season.

How could someone think Minnesota could get Mcnab for a 3rd or 4th round pick? Are you kidding me? Chicago or Minn would need to give up a 1st rounder. Chicago traded a first rounder for Rick Mirer a few years ago! Bledsoe cost Buffalo a 1st rounder. A decent QB is going to cost a number 1 no questions.

People talk about how bad the bears are but I think a very good qb like Mcnabb could totally change that team. A good Qb would perk up that defense and more importantly help keep them off the field. It would also help the running attack by keeping the opposing defenses honest.
