Yes I know he's dead. So please no "NO" votes based on that. TIA

Is being a good coach set in one's ways something that withstands the test of time, or does one need to recognize the era they're in and adapt?

His players loved him and didn't want to let him down by losing. Players talk of their relationship with him moreso like a father/son relationship than a coach/player or employer/employee relationship. I figure that would be of great significance in any era

No, and I'm as respectful of his greatness as anyone. No if for no other reason than he would not tolerate the whole immature/thug attitude thing so common now and would sprint, not walk, to the college ranks.

Lombardi recognized the essential fundamentals of football, blocking and tackling, and taught and coached them well. Very well.

As mentioned, he also had the knack for gaining honor from his players.

Albeit a different era, I think he had the tools to succeed in today's game.

For one, "tackling" in today's game is very poor, if not a disgrace. Lombardi would not have allowed that whatsoever.

To quote him, "what the hell's going on out there!" if the tackling was not measuring up to his standards.

In a word, he was "tough," and saw to it that his players were as well. :)

Vermeil succeeded across a few era's, Lombardi could do the same

Of course he would although his tactics would have been different. He focused on making his players men. That always succeeds. It brings accountability.

Then, like Pioli and Belichick, he would draft different players.

I grudgingly voted 'no' but not out of disrespect to Lombardi. I just believe the game has changed so much that he'd be way behind and assumed the question was that Lombardi circa 1960 was dropped into 2008 and expected to coach. I do think that given time to adjust that he'd still be great coach.

Can't find the exact quote but said Joe (Namath) remember your'e not bigger than the game. I don't think he could have dealt with todays players. Hard to say if he could have develped an offense to play in todays game but even so I just don't know if he could have dealt with today's players.

A no vote from me. And it's not the game that has changed so much, but IMO it's the players and human beings in general who have changed that much. Especially younger people. They have no respect for authority, and there are too many in the game who would not have been able to handle Vince's iron fisted ways.
