Well to be fair the offensive coach had a lot on his hands in the qb room the past few seasons. Not to mention there was already a quality wr core already starting, so development was probably less of a focus at the position.

Think of the Jets as the Detroit tree. Steichen is Philly from a few years back in Indy, Jets OC Engstrand was a Detroit guy. So heavy doses of run, actually, and not just because of Fields but by design. Detroit's neutral rush rate is really high.

He's been in the doghouse since week 4, after his two gigantic gaffes cost the Colts the game. In week 4, Pierce was out and Adonai played 89% of snaps. Week 5, Pierce was still out, but Adonai only played 9% of snaps. When Pierce was back week 6, Adonai was a healthy scratch for the only time in his young career. And Adonai hasn't played meaningful snaps since.

At least Taylor is some what accurate. The coaches should know this.

This is the one thing that impressed me. AD got a lot of separation against one of the best cover corners in the league in Gonzalez. It’s what you want in a potential alpha WR. Problem is between his ears and between his palms. He just turned 23 last month so he still has room for growth but he better figure it out soon. Even if the QB situation is dire, he’s not getting this amount of playing time and target share on any other team in the league right now.

I just think his hand n eye coordination just aren't there for when he's tracking the ball down field.

Kinda like in highschool when my Freshman baseball coach would hit these towering shots in the outfield like I've never seen until then.

And WOW was it hard adjusting from tracking a fly ball from a 15 year old hitting one compared to a grown man coach that played in the minor leagues few yrs smashing them.
I couldn't believe how high he cld hit it.
I'd be running in circles,then had trouble getting my glove on it when finally saw where it was.

If he's always had this issue with catching balls and making dumb mistakes,It won't change .

Idk why Texans haven't developed some well discussed young WRs and drafted two more. Idk why Mitchell isn't very successful. I just... opportunity.

The Jets had two WRs named Smith that looked good this summer. Sometimes they're not doing anything then ooh nice play. It wasn't all roses but I liked em and I'm not really sure why one got cut and the other hasn't done much.

Scrolling X, I saw I think two shots to Mitchell and ooh ok maybe this is the opportunity guy.

Watching on gamepass was fast and miserable. Fields is not a fun rewatch anymore. AD looked fine. He looked oddly comfortable. Just...alright I'll pickup this kid

The second-year speedster did step in to lead the Jets with six targets, but it was an otherwise forgettable day for Mitchell, who was responsible for a whopping three drops in the loss, per PFF. Mitchell let a deep pass slip through his hands in the second quarter and later let another ball slip by him in the third. Fantasy managers in need of a deep stash can add Mitchell off waivers next week, but he shouldn’t be viewed as anything more than a WR4/WR5 in Week 12 against the Ravens.

New York completely reworks its wide receiver rotation: The Jets' top two wide receivers are on injured reserve, and the team recently traded for two receivers.

The Jets' top two wide receivers this season are Garrett Wilson and Josh Reynolds, but both players are on injured reserve. They are both eligible to return before the end of the season, but there is a chance neither returns this season, given the Jets’ record and the risk and reward of returning. Fourth-round rookie Arian Smith has played the second-most snaps among Jets receivers this season, but he only has six receptions for 47 yards. Veterans Tyler Johnson and Allen Lazard have both moved up and down the depth chart multiple times this season, sometimes being a starter, a healthy inactive, or anywhere in between.

New York recently traded for John Metchie III and Adonai Mitchell. Metchie started his career with the Houston Texans, was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles before the season, but played very little time because he was too far down the Eagles' depth chart. Mitchell started his career with the Indianapolis Colts, but in his only start this season, he let go of the ball before the end zone, leading to a turnover instead of a touchdown. He also had a penalty that cost the team a long touchdown. Metchie was eased into action last week, while Mitchell was inactive.

This week, Mitchell and Lazard were both active after not playing last week, giving the team six wide receivers, which has been unusual. Metchie worked his way to the top of the Jets' depth chart, playing the clear majority of the snaps in both two- and three-receiver sets. His alignment distribution was similar to Wilson's. Isaiah Williams was recently signed off the practice squad, and he became the Jets' third wide receiver in three-receiver sets, often lining up in the slot. He has surpassed Smith on the depth chart, largely taking his role. Johnson and Mitchell rotated as the Jets’ X receiver. Johnson played more in run situations, and Mitchell played more in pass situations. They are taking Reynolds' spot.

Mitchell was the Jets‘ clear top target. Historically, he's had an impressive average depth of target, and Fields has a history of throwing deep passes, but New York didn’t have a clear deep target during the first half of the season. Unfortunately, multiple of Mitchell’s targets were dropped passes. Mitchell and Metchie are both worth considering off the waiver wire, as they have the most potential in the wide receiver room. The Jets have a solid schedule for wide receivers over the rest of the season, so both are worth waiver-wire pickups in deeper leagues.

It was his first game and boy it wasn't pretty, but if you look at the posts the talent is there as he was beating one of the better corners in the league. Mitchell isn't a "right now" play as much as he is a "2-3 games down the line" play. You're hoping Mitchell gets better acclimated with the O mentally and that Justin Fields gets benched for Tyrod Taylor.
