WR Brandin Cooks, BUF (7 Viewers)

The Eagles have to be in play here. No way Cooks can go back there can he? And I don't believe they turned down the Titans for pick 18 either. Has to be more to it than that.

I keep having this ongoing loop in my brain at how furious Ingram was after he didn't get the goaline carry for a TD that was given to the fullback IIRC. Now, they have no reason to change as long as its working.

I think it only makes sense if they get a year 1 impact defender, and the ability to replace Cooks with a less versatile stretch WR. It seems like 18 is a crapshoot to get the former. 

I think something like 5 + 83 + a later pick for 11 + Cooks makes a lot of sense for both teams. The Saints can grab someone like Soloman Thomas, who they have no shot at with 11, and get a speedy WR with one of their 3rds. My guess is it is something like that when all is said and done.

##### response.  It all depends on how you define elite.  I consider 2-3 QBs elite at any given time.  To me, Bree's hasn't consistently been in that category.  Great QB, not elite.

That actually sounds like a good deal for both teams, especially New Orleans, as they've needed CB help the entire Payton run, and still are solid with Thomas and Snead. If that happens, it'll be hard to argue against Brady as the #1 QB for fantasy next year. 

 
I'm not a big Cooks fan and I don't think Brady is the best qb for him by a long shot but that would be a nightmare for opposing safeties. 

 
I can see NE pulling this off but the big thing I questions is Cooks fit. Yes Brady is great and Cooks is very good but a few things to consider.

Cooks is unhappy about playing 1b/1a role. He might lead NE in targets, but now he's probably 1ABor C with Edelman and Gronk.

Cooks apparently wanted contract extension as part of a trade. I don't think he and NE will agree on terms.

With both of those issues I think BB will be put to the test. I do think he's way  better at managing players expectations and in general communicating with his players then Sean Payton, like a lot better. So maybe he can get Cooks to buy into the NE way, but I worry this could be rare NE malcontent.

And then they have to worry about Gronk in the middle of the field....it's not even fair.

Brady is 10,359 yards and 83 touchdowns from passing manning for the career records.  Brees is younger than Brady and leads him in both categories by 4,529 yards and 9 tds. 

 
I think NE is thinking 2 year window with trading for Cooks. They do not have a history of paying top dollar to many positions and certainly not WR (let Welker walk recently)

So would NE rather have Cooks the next two years or Butler?

As for FF, I think it is a push for Cooks. Not sure he would get more than 125 targets in NE with a healthy Gronk. But Cooks would be a matchup nightmare in that offense, even with Brady's long ball deteriorating

Brady either found his long ball again or it's all about chemistry, because he connected with Hogan heaps on deep ball last year. Without even looking at stats I'd guess it was best QBR in his career for pass attempt 40+ yards (or whatever the threshold typically used for "deep" passes is).

So if he can keep it up and develop that kind of mojo with Cooks ...

Yes, they signed Brandon Lloyd right after Moss, I think, and Brady was unable to utilize him. Then they signed Chad Johnson and that was totally ineffective. 

Cooks to NE would murder his production. I don't own him, but if I did and he went to NE, I'd trade him for whatever I could get. Actually, anywhere not GB or NO would hurt his production.

I don't think anybody will say NE has anything but a great offense that plays to their strengths. So if they are hot for Cooks, they have something in mind and that is a good thing. This is a completely different scenario than signing a vet to a FA contract. This is a regime targeting a specific player for a reason and willing to pay for it. That bodes well for Cooks.

Maybe they are doing a run n shoot? or the GS Warriors small ball? Cooks/Edelman/Lewis/white with Gronk/Hogan/Mitchell/Blount doing the dirty work when necessary

You mean like the contested catch he made in the end zone against Denver's #1 pass D to give NO the lead late last year? He's average good in contested situations and great in other spots. He should be moved all over the place and targeted heavily.

I think we all know the value of a single anecdote.

All I know is that his reception perception study knocked him for contested catches and ability to get off press coverage. In other words, he's not very physical and will be a limited WR. I think Brees and Rodgers can work around that kind of thing, but I don't think he'd do very well in a dink and dunk system like NE.

 
i dont study film so if this sounds stupid the first person can call me stupid...everyone after is just piling on :)

When I think Drew Brees and his signature throw, his go-to throw/play...it's a seam pass. When I think of Tom Brady and his go-to throw/play it's that crossing pattern that gives the wr a RAC opportunity. Edelman and Welker seemed to make those plays multiple times a game.

Maybe the Brees-Cooks battery wasnt lights out because their strengths didnt coincide. Maybe the Brady-Cooks (if it happens) battery will click. I can see a typical NE clear out play where Cooks starts on the left and catches the ball after the right hash...12 yards down the field. And because of the play design, theres a ton of green in front of Cooks for RAC yards.

Cooks speed works just as well if he's running east and west as it does north and south when creating separation.

Well although it is anecdotal when he makes a catch like that in a spot like that it's hard to say he's bad at it. Probably more accurate to call him inconsistent at it. I do agree he's not great at it. Moving him into the slot or in motion gets him out of press coverage too. Which he also struggles at. This makes it even more confusing that NO doesn't move him around more.

The Patriots have their work cut off for them.  Remember Cooks crying like a baby last year when the Saints crushed someone (I think it was the Rams) and he didn't catch a pass? He's a total diva who would rather catch 7 balls and lose than catch none and win, and there will be weeks in NE where he is a decoy and doesn't get many targets. But if anyone can make it work, it is Belichick.

Yeah long list of #1 wr that wouldn't complain about zero targets. #Rolleyes

The divas are Sean Payton and Brees himself for pulling that crap on Cooks. He was open several times in that game and Brees saw it and went somewhere else.

LOL.

Their job is to win games, not to appease a diva WR, and they won that 49-21.  Sean Payton doesn't know **** about defense, but he knows offense.

Yeah and throwing it to Cooks when he was a open a couple of times wouldn't have changed the outcome of that game. It was a terrible power play that backfired on Payton and Brees. Every #1 WR in the league would have been upset. Yeah a few might not have said anything publicly but all of them would have felt slighted.

And Cooks was not happy he was not the alpha  in New Orleans,  I think he is less so now.
