WR Brandin Cooks, NO (2 Viewers)

Texans restructured Brandin Cooks' contract.

Cooks had a team-friendly void looming in his contract ahead of the new league year but the Texans will instead restructure his cap hit to $6.53 million, ensuring the 27-year-old sticks around for at least one more year. With Will Fuller set to hit the open market, it's possible Cooks opens the year as Houston's No.1 wideout by default. His fantasy outlook is dependent on Deshaun Watson's destination for Week 1.

Good for Cooks that he doesn't have to find a new place again. TBD for his fantasy value until his QB situation is figured out, but he should be the WR1 anyway.

loving Cooks this season. bargain basement price, penthouse performance.

no watson? not worried. terrible tyrod will lock onto him every time he drops back to pass.every.single.time. This might be a banner year for Cooks, lots of games where they're trailing by double digits at halftime and just fling it in the 2nd half of games.

myfantasy league predicts 83 recs, about 1133 yards, and 7 TD. and that might be on the low end of what to expect.solid as hell. very bullish on Cooks for 2021.

Nice... I'm trying to decide if I should keep him or not and this confidence helps me :P

Bullish, indeed. An absolute steal at ADP. I generally avoid drafting Players from bad Teams, but there are always exceptions. Cooks is probably the #1-ranked exception for 2021, IMHO. The guy's track record says he's going to generate stats, no matter the circumstances surrounding him. 8th/9th Round? Yes, please!

I'm projecting Cooks to have a 30% target share, which translates to 119 targets in my books. I'm trying to keep a reasonable expectation for YPT with Tyrod, which leads my Cooks projection to 8 YPT, in line with his 3 worst seasons and 950 yards. Giving him a career average completion percentage that aligns well with Taylor's typical completions and Cooks's history/ADOT/etc...

The biggest factor is I'm thinking Houston has one of the worst offenses the NFL has seen in the past 5 years. And I think I'm risking being a little optimistic when I ascribe 55 plays a game to them, which is roughly the 31st/32nd ranked team's number of plays over the last 5 years as an average.

I'm getting 119 targets for a line of 75/950/5 - likely a value, but not exactly league winning upside. And if Watson did play....then there's upside.

I should add - since I do a ton of normalizing to historical data and such in my projections, and I didn't want (or forgot, shhhh) to convert everything to rates/game initially, this is a 16-game proj. So if you want the 17 gamer, just divide by 16 and multiply by 17. That's what I will eventually do for all my stuff, but as of today I'm through Jacksonville (alpha) so a little over halfway to go.

Any Brandin Cooks owners starting tomorrow?  WR3 or Flex?

I believe he is the clear #1 option in Houston?  Granted Tyrod Taylor is no Deshaw Watson but someone has to get targets right?

Debating between Cooks, JuJu, and Marquez Callaway at WR3 in a non-PPR league.  Still not really sure which way I'll go.

Similar dilemma, choosing 2 for WR3/Flex amongst Cooks, JJSS and Sutton.

  • FBGs League Dominator has it JuJu - WR3, Cooks - Flex, Sutton sitting.
  • I have it Cooks @ WR3, Sutton in the Flex, Smith-Schuster on the bench.
Tyrod is a terrible fit for Cooks, game manager throwing to a deep threat, but he does have great history VS the Jags. Sutton has been tracking well in his ACL recovery & building a rapport with Bridgewater (TD In the last preseason tuneup.) I think JuJu is the 5th wheel these days.

It's hard to say how Cooks will do with Tyrod. But not expecting much as Tyrod has averaged less than 200 yards passing in his most recent starts. I look at over/under and the defenses. Vegas has a low total for the HOU-TEX game. But I expect more scoring due to bad defenses.  My flex choices are Cooks, Dillon or Tonyan (vs NO), and Higbee (vs CHI).

I've pulled him from everything.

Honestly your best case scenario for Tyrod seems to be 200 yards...that's not a lot of chances right there.  He may have an alright floor but his ceiling feels barely about it (unless he catches the 1td tyrod is going to throw)

I'll be fading all Texan players until their QB situation improves.  They may not win a game and I just don't see how you can start any Texan players in fantasy at the moment.

I drafted him as my #4 WR in a 16 team league because he was the BPA at the time. Also, the Texan defense will continue to be bad, leading to garbage time points, and there was a small sliver of hope that Watson would play. FWIW, Taylor had pff grades of 77, 75.6 and 80 in his 3 years in Buffalo.

Maybe JAX is an exceptional opponent. Cooks with 4 for 128 in the first half.

Got  him late and hoping for more. In for the ride.
I'm jelly - he was a major target for me but someone reached a little for him & being on a turn, what can you do.

I think he'll do this all year. The man is simply QB-proof. Put Blaine Gabbard behind center. Heck, put Ryan Leaf behind center & Cooks is getting his 1000+ yard season with 100+ catches.

You are absolutely loving him as a WR4.

Cooks is a legit WR2. he's ALWAYS good for 8-80 every week. in my leagues, thats at least 11 pts guaranteed each and every week. it's the steady ppg that I like, not a fan of the guy who goes for 22 fantasy pts one week, 6 the next.talking about you Thielen.

I love him too, but I can't see him keeping up 8-80 every week.  That's 135 catches for 1350 yards.

Brandin Cooks caught 9-of-14 targets for 78 yards and a touchdown in Houston's Week 2 loss to Cleveland.

Not only was Cooks the only player to have double-digit targets, he was the only player on the team to have more than two targets. He had exactly half of Houston's 28 pass attempts directed at him. It's hard to lose on that kind of volume, and Cooks is being asked to be more physical than he was under Bill O'Brien. He remains on the WR3 line heading into a game against the Panthers on Thursday even with the quarterback downgrade because of the volume potential.

he's fantasy gold set it and forget it type of player. another big game. when will everyone just jump on the BC bandwagon already!
I might start plugging him in over Higgins who has been ok, but Cooks just seems like he'll be more consistent. And Houston somehow not a total dumpster fire. We'll see with this new QB if Tyrod is out for awhile.

Mills looked bad in the preseason and wasn't good yesterday. If Taylor is out, Cooks will not be a good play.

Can't complain so far, producing way over his ADP and should be forced fed the ball moving forward. Schedule isn't getting any easier so the Texans should be down and they will continue to throw. Should still see targets even with Tyrod out.

Yea he was going to be so good this year with Tyrod I think.  Hope Tyrod isnt out for too long.  He should still get volume but now there is uncertainty

  1. How long is Tyrod supposed to out?
  2. Has Cullen been tested for mental acuity lately? He said yesterday “we’ll see” when asked if Deshaun was starting next week.

Who's rolling him out with Mills at QB this week? Tyrod isn't a great passer by any means, but at least he's a vet and he fed Cooks.

I think I'm going to see how Mills looks for the week, and pivot to Rondale or OBJ in one league, Marvin Jones in another.

Good question.

I am going to start Cooks over OBJ (I think) for kinda the same reason you mentioned on the other side..would like to see OBJ do it for a week first.

There's just not a lot of scenarios where Cooks doesn't get 10+ targets a game.  Tyrod was gold of course.

Tyrod to the IR.  Was going to roll with him before that injury.  Im thin at WR…Claypool has been ok and Ben is dinged too.   And Shenault is dinged and been a huge disappointment.

I have to keep rolling with Cooks as starter, even though this is likely a floor week for him.

Drafting Aiyuk was a big mistake, so I'm thin at WR and Cooks has been the bright spot.

Most likely sitting him this week. I have Hollywood vs the Lions, Sutton vs the Jets and Chase against the Steelers. I still like Cooks a lot but I don’t love him with Mills against Car this week.

I love Brandin Tawan Cooks.

48% target share yesterday  :drive:

Any other men starting Cooks tonight?
