WR Calvin Johnson and his Dynasty Value (1 Viewer)

Would any sharks here take Johnson OVER AP 1st overall in a NON-PPR league?
If you have the 1.01 honestly, I doubt that you have the RBs to pass on Peterson or Lynch. Personally, I think that Peterson is a special talent as a classic RB and would probably take him a 1.01 in a league where WRs don't score a ton of points. That said, I have the 1.03 in a non-PPR where I have LJ @ Rb with Walker and junk @ WR so I am hoping that the guys in front of me take the scoring of the league seriously and go RB/RB. Of course, anyone in that league reading this is more than welcome to offer bunches of stuff for that pick within the next 4 1/2 months.

I like Johnson a lot. I have touted him as the top college wr since midway through last year when I was living in Georgia and saw a lot of Tech games. However, it is a mistake to bump a player up too much because of one game against an undersized defense. If you had him at #1 before this game, as some have, that is reasonable. But I wouldn't leapfrog him to #1 because of today. If you do that, then how high do you bump up Jarrett after today, who excelled against a much stronger defense.
Good point. Johnson leapfrogged Peterson for me midseason or so. It was at that point I could no longer justify keeping Johnson at #2. Also, while one big game shouldn't hold too much weight, it certainly doesn't hurt. :pickle:

Peterson has some legit concerns- he has gotten dinged the last couple of years and he takes some vicious hits. He durability is definitely an issue.

I have Jarrett at #4 now. Not just because of this game, but it did "seal the deal".

But there's something very meaningful about his huge game today. It was his first game with anything resembling a QB this year, and he was unstoppable.

So Bloom, in a league where you don't have to start a RB, that gives extra points for big plays, would you take Johnson over Peterson if we drafted pre-NFL draft?

I'm extremely high on Johnson, but he's still only a WR and a WR will never be as important as a RB in fantasy football. Even in his best years, no one would've taken Randy Moss in the top 3-4 picks in a redraft and he was unstoppable. Johnson's potential is limitless, but I'll take the guys who I know will be given the opportunity to score 20x a game over the one who's getting the ball maybe 5-8 times a game.

You have to take Peterson and Lynch over him.

I agree. Every year, some RB's who were in the "1B tier" suddenly explode into the top couple picks because of a great combine and NFL draft situation (both Maroney and Addai did this last year). My league is RB crazy, and we've never taken a WR before 1.5, regardless of who is there.

I would take Johnson #1 in gamebreakers, so yes.
:bag: Not that either of us have that pick. I do in a league with a similar lineup, and am totally on the fence now.

My league is that way too because we start 3 RBs. I'm curious where Johnson will go. We start 2 QBs as well, so they always go very high as well. I think Johnson could last to pick 6 in my league. I'm working on getting that pick ASAP...

Taking awhile for the hype to gather steam I see. :hot: <---kool aid
This cool aid is mighty tasty, I think I'll have me some. :lmao: :lmao: :hot: Seriously though, as others have stated hard not to get excited about this guy... however, taking him over AP and Lynch if they all declare is IMO, rediculous. Unless you have LJ and LT2 on your team no way I would pass on AP. I would have to think hard about Lynch, probably would depend on situation but most likely I go with Lynch.
I have both LT2 and LJ (Dynasty) I have the 1.2/1.7 rookie picks. I first thought it was a no brainer Lynch all the way (We can start 3 rbs) with the 1.2 pick, but now I'm not so sure.
