WR Chris Olave, NO (1 Viewer)

Based on what I just saw, Olave isn't startable until Carr gets back. And even then it's questionable since Carr hates him, but these backups + O-line is a disaster.

I would be afraid of any and all Saints after last night. Sinking ship
Rattler is playing okay for a rookie with very little experience and I think he’ll pepper Olave with targets when back this week. I think he’s at least a WR2/3 ROS.

The deals for him are out there and I think this is the lowest he will go. Just traded Jordan Mason to the McCaffrey owner for Olave. He's been trying to get him from me all year. I think Mason's value is heading down, I'm fairly set at RB and desperate for any pulse at WR.

looks like good to go

(Rotowire) Olave cleared concussion protocol and will be available for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Olave already looked on track to be available this weekend after turning in a full practice Thursday, but Terrell's report confirms that the wideout has now received clearance from an independent neurologist, the final stage of the five-step protocol. After sitting out last week's loss to Broncos, Olave should be ready to reprise his usual duties as the Saints' No. 1 wideouts, though he'll be on the receiving end of passes from rookie Spencer Rattler rather than Derek Carr (oblique), who is expected to miss a third straight start. Olave suited up in Rattler's first NFL start back in Week 6, but the former played just two snaps before exiting with the concussion.

Glad that he’s good to go but is he going to deliver some value? I was always anti Olave but this year I thought there was a lot of upside given the new offense, putting him in motion, etc. I worry I tricked myself and the report is Olave is just what I had expected: an NFL WR2 masquerading as a WR1.

Confirmed he has movement in all extremities.

Not hard to believe though in the middle of a down season for the team, they don't just shut him down for the year.

Wasn't he the one who was considering wearing the extra helmet cap?
Tried it out in practice but guess it didn't make it into the real game.

Bummer with the early exit again- he's not a huge guy for them to keep sending him on these crushing routes.

That ball that Carr gave him was an absolute ambulance pass. With this level of QB it seems like he’s just happy to throw a catchable pass, and doesn’t have the ability to ascertain what he’s throwing his WR into. Whether it’s him or a combo of him and the play design. Dont feel good about this situation tbh, someone asked Olave’s brother online if it’s time to start thinking about whether it’s worth it or not and he replied not in NOLA it’s not. I’m considering using him and a 1st to try and tier up out of this situation if I can even manage to do that

Any word on Olave? No doubt he'll be in protocol but any idea if he's going to return in a game or two, or if it's going to be a Tua situation and 4+?

Darren Rizzi said Chris Olave is taking things slow and no decisions on his immediate or long term future have been made

Matthew Parras
Rizzi said Chris Olave will go "thoroughly" through the concussion protocol process: "We're more worried about Chris Olave the person at the moment."

He's seeing specialists. No decision yet on IR.

Decision now for redraft leagues without IR is do we keep or cut?

Odds are pretty solid he's out for the year and I want to say this is coming from someone who was adamant that Tua would return this year so I'm not that guy always trying to retire people who say they out but two in one year at a position very hard to avoid contact makes me think we've seen the last of him this year.

After two cracked melons within a month or so, I wouldn't feel confident throwing him out there again this year even if he theoretically could come back in a week. I think you're probably safe cutting. Had his two injuries pretty close to each other. Assume the Saints'll (rightly) take an abundance of caution.

And if they don't, and someone else picks Olave up in leagues where you drop him and burns the roster spot hoping they'll bring him back quickly, that's also potentially a "win" for droppers too. Could be a useful body dropped, or just remove one more owner from picking up a guy they're after off the WW later because they're crossing fingers with Chris.

In the same boat re: dropping Olave in redraft. He’s back at minimum week 14 - even if they let him return, not sure I’d bank on him for the fantasy playoffs.

Not much on waivers, so may see who gets dropped next week. Tipton is tempting, but can’t trust him.

would they really bring him back to play in a couple meaningless games to catch passes from the Rattler? That seems kind of nuts

(Rotowire) Interim coach Darren Rizzi said that Olave's (concussion) 21-day window in which to return from injured reserve has been opened, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports. Olave officially was limited at Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Rizzi also told Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune that Olave "got some great news. He went for a recheck like we talked about. He was cleared for football activities." Olave has been sidelined since suffering a concussion Week 9 at Carolina, missing the Saints' past five games in the process. His odds to play Monday at Green Bay aren't known, but Rizzi noted Olave is "probably doubtful" to return to action Week 16, per Paras.

What do you even do with him in 2024?

I thought he was going to be a stud this season. Obviously the concussions derailed the season. But now you're 1 concussion away from him retiring. And I get it. You can't predict a concussion. But this dude has had a lot. And 1 more, he may done for good.

I had him around WR12 last year. I loved his ability coming out of college. He seemed to be in a situation to dominate targets. He'll be so far down my rankings. And next year, he'll have the season he was supposed to have this year.

Will desperately try to offload him this offseason. Not gonna sell myself short, cause if he's on the field, he's solid, but I'm done being in a constant state of worry with him on my roster.

He was my 9th round keeper the last two years, but I've already moved on from him. I cut him a few weeks ago. To much risk for my taste. I won't touch him again in any league, in any format.

Injuries aside, could be a massive value next year.
That's the crux.

If he stays healthy, and the Saints aren't rolling Spencer Rattler out at QB, he could be a really good WR2, even flirt with WR1 status.

He just feels so much closer to being done for a season from 1 hit.

Also believe that both times he was knocked out early. Hard to handle a guy who can put up those goose eggs.

Hate the situation, but I'm happy to have him for now. Would sell lower than what I paid. But not much lower. I am fortunate enough to have plentiful viable options at WR and can start no more than three. If I were counting on him to be my only WR2 or something, I can totally understand being ready to unload him for whatever.

Have shares in dynasty and not sure what to do, sure could turn out to be a great value but also another concussion and can't see how it's not a Tua situation and he's out a minimum of like 6 games. Also there's QB uncertainty, Carr's not good but could end up with someone worse.
