WR Deebo Samuel, WAS (2 Viewers)

Aiyuk looked really good during his rookie season. Interestingly, 4 of Aiyuk's 5 best games came without Jimmy G that season, so perhaps Aiyuk will actually be better with Lance. Also, in his 5 years, Kittle has played at least 14 games in 4 of them. He's only missed 14 out of a possible 87 games, and 8 came in 1 season.

Off the top of my head as far as a top-3 weapons standpoint, I'd take the Kittle/Aiyuk/Jennings trio over every teams top-3s guys except:

Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, LA Rams, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, Tennessee

There are a couple others I can go either way on, but those 8 are the only for sure bets in my opinion.

It would certainly hurt SF to deal Deebo, but I hardly think they'd be screwed in the passing game, and I say that as someone who would call Deebo a top-10 WR, maybe top-8 WR. That said, with Deebo, its the best top-3 in the NFL in my opinion, and it might not even be close, which is part of the reason, I don't think much of Jimmy G.
I think Aiyuk has a really good rapport with Lance and am excited about the pairing. That said, I’m closer to agreeing with Matt Barrows than your ranking (quote from his Athletic mailbag):

”Where would the receiving unit listed above — even if they added someone in the second or third round — rank in the NFL? (Rhymes with “dirty fecund”)”

I'm excited about Lance. Frankly, I have a hard time believing he won't be better than Jimmy G.

I would assume he's clearly not counting Kittle, which is lame to me. We should really be at the point where TEs (especially elite ones) are viewed as on par with WRs. Super hot take: I think George Kittle and Travis Kelce are better weapons than any WRs are.

A lot of Deebo's success is predicated him taking short catches and breaking free for big gains. How many of those plays, is Kittle the guy springing him, I'd bet its a majority of them.

long term I agree Lance should be monumentally better than JimmyG.

Short term I expect some struggles.

Perhaps.

Just saying, anything more just isnt worth it
Honestly I doubt the 10 is even in play. That’s a SF fan site and there is no quote from anyone associated with the Jets in that article. It’s based on “word around the league”, whatever that means.

Tony Pauline, I am not a believer.

49ers GM John Lynch told reporters he cannot imagine a scenario where they let Deebo Samuel go.

Lynch went on to say that Samuel is too good of a player and a person to let go of. This fits with reporting that the 49ers are actively looking to extend Samuel. However, the star wide receiver is reportedly uninterested in an extension and simply wants to play elsewhere. Given that Deebo remains on his rookie contract, and can be franchise tagged in 2023, it seems more likely than not that the 49ers eventually reach an extension with the 26-year-old.

Rich Cimini: Deebo Samuel situation: My understanding is that nothing has changed from yesterday, which is to say the #Jets are still interested if they can get a deal that makes sense.

I'm sure it can't possibly be true, but saw on a different forum someone said Jets offered the 10th, 35th, 99th, 2023 2nd and Elijah Moore for Deebo.  If that's true I'm hulk smash accepting that if I'm the 49ers...but Jets can't be that dumb right?? right????

Yeah, that's nuts. I saw that on Twitter, too. Be very careful about Twitter. People ####post there all the time. It's sometimes sarcasm.

It was speculation from a clueless beat reporter - 0 shot of that happening.

It wasn't a real offer - it was an article written by some woman beat-writer that was trying to come up with trade scenarios that "made sense" - ignoring the fact that her suggested deal did not make sense for the Jets.

What about if I wish really, really, really hard on a falling star? Can we make it a real offer, like when Pinocchio became a real boy?

If I were the Jets, I'd covet 1.04 & 1.10 this year, because the oline and dline are deep, and they might never draft that high again. With 2.03 & 2.06 a good safety or CB should be available.  That's an upgrade at 3 positions, possibly a major upgrade or 2. Deebo Samuel would be another major upgrade.

I'd offer 2.06 this year and a conditional first in 2023 based on how Deebo does. If he does great, that means Wilson is doing well and pick won't be high, plus no need for a QB. If Deebo does poorly, then make it a 2nd in 2023.

What happens to Corey? DeVonte Parker netted a 3rd from the Patriots in 2023.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said he does not get the sense there is "any movement" on a trade for Deebo Samuel.

Rapoport noted that the timing of a potential trade is making things difficult for the move to happen. A trade would require Samuel to pass a physical and get a contract extension before it becomes official. With San Francisco likely wanting picks in the upcoming draft, there's almost no time left for a deal to go through. 49ers GM John Lynch is also adamant about keeping Samuel, telling reporters he cannot imagine a scenario where they let him go. It looks like the 49ers are determined to work things out with their disgruntled star, though, as Rapoport noted, one call could change everything.

Moore is the hold up. 49ers wanted him last year...and won't make the deal without him.

Piling on here, but there’s no way in hell that offer was extended to the Niners. If it were, DeeBo would already be a Jet.

That's way more draft value than KC got for Tyreek.  Plus, Elijah Moore really came on last year, he might be really good.

And Moore's salary is peanuts the next 3 years. Not sure his value alone, due to the age/contract numbers, would be viewed as that far off from Deebo.

Folks. The Jets don't even hold the 99th pick.

It is mathematically impossible for them to have offered that. Everyone should take a deep breath.

I read that trade package was part of an article discussing what it would take to get Deebo, and they came up with that scenario. I guess the guy who tweeted ot thought it was legit.

Can't find the link to where I read that, it was somewhere on twitter

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports that the Jets could trade for Deebo Samuel during the first round of the draft.

Cimini speculates that the Jets and 49ers could both be waiting to see who is available when the Jets are on the clock with the No. 10 pick. Cimini characterized a trade as "ain't dead yet," and it's fair to assume the potential trade is a bit of a longshot. However, with a receiver like Drake London, Garrett Wilson, or Jameson Williams available, it's possible that the 49ers decide to move on from Samuel—who is reportedly unwilling to sign a new contract with San Francisco.

The sad state of (the lack of) critical thinking in that people believe what they see on Twitter/any social media without any pause or consideration. And others perpetuate that by reacting to the (mis)information.

No one knows what offers have been made or not made. I prefer waiting to hear from legitimate sources rather than wasting my (limited) mental energy on speculating about every rumour from anyone with a Twitter account.

As a 49ers fan, I hope that the team is able to work this out and keep Deebo but am prepared that the situation may have moved past the point of no return. Deadlines spur action. If a 1st this year is part of the ask, we'll have our answer today.

Unless the negotiations are much farther along than anyone knows, there is very little chance this deal get done.  I can't imagine anyone trading for Deebo without a physical and contract extension worked out.

Jets should make their pick at 10, then reach out to SF.

There is no deadline for a trade, Deebo can get traded in August.

It should be notable that no info guy with any credibility is discussing any of these crazy deals.

total garbage tweet -  not sure why it was even acknowledged by being posted.
I think it was part of a flood of sarcastic tweets about fake Deebo offers. Not sure it was ever supposed to be serious but it definitely took flight.

Serious note I would love to see E Moore succeed right where he is. I think it would be silly to go hard after Deebo.

Aaron Rodgers said the Packers have been "in the mix" for a possible trade for Deebo Samuel, though he conceded the 49ers seem unwilling to part with the wideout.

Rodgers added the Packers could add a veteran receiver this offseason after the team lost Davante Adams to the Raiders and used neither of their two first round draft picks on a receiver. Niners general manager John Lynch, amid swirling rumors that Samuel could be dealt to the Jets before or during the NFL Draft, said he couldn't imagine a scenario in which the team parts ways with its most valuable offensive player. Whether Samuel wants to be in San Francisco is another question entirely. He would be a target hog in Green Bay's offense with vanishingly little target competition from Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, and the like.

I am interested to see how this plays out - I cant remember a team besides Pitt with Bell - not caving into such public demands.  CBA makes it difficult for Deebo to sit out but he can be disruptive....I dont like the precedent so hoping it works for him.....Lance could really use him!

Matt Barrows reports that the Jets offer for Deebo Samuel:

Jets send: Pick 10, 5th-round pick
49ers send: Deebo Samuel, Pick 61

Jesus, that's weak

I don't doubt that the offers the 49ers received were of the lowball variety. I prefer the made-up overpay scenario that was floating around earlier. 😆
