WR Dynasty Question (1 Viewer)

Dynasty-wise, which of these late round draft picks has the best chance to shine?

Lavelle Hawkins - Tenn has a young stable of WRs to choose from already. Between Gage, McCareins, Roydell, and Paul Williams fighting for spots, it may take some time for Hawkins to break into the starting lineup. I heard he was the consistent one in college, but will that consistency carry over to the NFL? I can Hawkins getting into the top 3 by the end of the year.

Adrian Arrington - NO traded back into the 7th rnd to get him. But were they chasing lightening in a bottle again looking for the next Colston. Reports from OTAs show he shined when given the opportunity. However, he has to battle uphill for a spot against Colston, Henderson, Copper, Moore, Meachum, and Patten. There's also word of him starting the year on the Practice Squad. If NO tries to put him there, I don't see him clearing waivers. My best guess is that Arrington could make it up to WR3 or 4 by the end of the year. The future would look bright for NO with Colston, Meachum, and Arrington as their top 3.

Marcus Monk - The WR field is wide open in Chicago. Booker is old. Bradley is injured. Someone needs to step up. I've read that Monk would've been a 2nd rnd pick if he came out last year. The injury dropped his stock and team's shied away. He ran a 4.5something at the combine, but then came back down to 4.4something in his private workout. I would assume he is on the mend and ready to go. If he has the talent, I can see him being the quickest one from this group to find a spot as WR1 or 2 on this team. That being said, until Chicago finds a solid QB to throw the ball, he still may not have much fantasy impact.

What are your thoughts?

I've been grabbing Arrington for dirt cheap in all of my dynasty leagues. I don't think he's a lock for success, but there's something there that intrigues me.

He's not the strongest or fastest WR, but his athletic ability and coordination are interesting. I like him as a sleeper pick.

Id say Hawkins, Arrington, and then Monk. Arrington got some good press initially but now the word is that he probably doesnt have what it takes to beat out Moore or Henderson, but we shall see. I like the guy, his game against Florida was sensational, but I think Hawkins is given more opportunity and much sooner because his competition is much less. Word is that he did well in mini camp and OTA's

Hawkins then Monk, Arrington. The problem with Arrington is that he is behind a huge logjam. Even though he performed well in minicamps, he will probably be a practice squad player. Monk may be also and the QB situation sucks there but whose in front of him? fossilized Booker, that Lloyd hack. He doesn't have to work his way pas much.

Colston is good, Patten is solid, and Meachem has potential. No one else on the Saints is a guarantee at WR. The bottom line is that Arrington either has the talent to last in the league or he doesn't. The presence of Moore and Henderson won't be a big factor in the long run.

Hawkins is the only one that will not start on the practice squad, imo. That does not mean a ton in the long run, but Hawkins has the best chance to contribute sooner. I like all three, especially Arrington, but how long can you carry him in normal dynasty leagues if he is on practice squad of the Saints?

Why are we limiting it to these 3?

Aside from you considering which to draft, that is.

Others to consider:

Steve Johnson

Pierre Garcon

Davone Bess

Paul Hubbard

Marcus Henry

Hawkins was hands down the best WR at Cal in 07 and he's definitely the guy on this list I'd be investing in. Guy has play making ability - think he has strong YAC potential, great hands, great ball skills, and can beat his man deep. Classic case of a solid WR being downgraded because his workout numbers are questionable. My concerns about him involve physicalness (blocking, breaking from press coverage against a physical defender) and route running, he bulks up and 'gets it' on the practice field and who knows. He should start in the slot and may get return duties in the meantime, definitely a stash and wait sort of guy.

I drafted Hawkins in the 5th round (of 6 rounds, traded two late 5th rounders to move up and take him at the start of the 5th round) of our rookie draft (12 team dynasty league), and then I got Monk of of waivers since he went undrafted, for the min bid. Two nice guys I got stashed, I also drafted Dexter Jackson and Early Doucet... how do you guys feel about them?

Good info. Didn't mean to slight any other late round WRs, but those are the three I've been following lately. As a Browns fan, I've paid close attention to Hubbard. I like his chances for long term. With JJ going to the PUP most likely, Hubbard could find a quick route to the starting lineup. He would simply have to outplay Wilson, Sanders, Steptoe, and Kasper. I'm not counting Cribbs as I don't see him being a full time WR and KR/PR for the team. I think they'll only limit him to trick/gimmick plays or 5 WR sets.

If Hubbard can catch on to the playbook and go all out in TC, I think he could have a good chance of stepping in front of Wilson/Sanders/Steptoe. I've heard good things about Kasper, so that would be more of a wait and see. Worst case, Hubbard goes to the PS for a year.

Marcus Monk The WR field is wide open in Chicago. Booker is old. Bradley is injured. Someone needs to step up. I've read that Monk would've been a 2nd rnd pick if he came out last year. I can see him being the quickest one from this group to find a spot as WR1 or 2 on this team.
Waived. By the Bears. That can't be a good sign.

I like Hawkins of the group. One word. opportunity. Hawkins will have plenty of it and with the lack of overall competition at the WR position. I think he is poised to contribute sonner than the others.
