WR Henry Ruggs III (1 Viewer)

also, he should be so very sorry to the witness. Someone saw it happen and this young lady didn't die instantly. She was screaming as her car was on fire. The witness has to live with that emotional damage of watching that.

I hate this guy
You act like he did it on purpose.

And he has to live with that memory every day too.
Welp, he's had plenty of opportunities to show just how remorsful he feels and still seems to have no interest in genuinely being sorry (from what I've read and seen at least, could be wrong), so I think he probably deserves a bit of hatred.
You have heard from where?
I mean it's a few posts above?

Clearly that is the interpretation that some are taking from his quote. But that is hardly the only way to view it.

No. It is part of the rehabilitation process. Ruggs was among several inmates who were invited to speak at a Hope for Prisoners event.

Hope For Prisoners is a nonprofit organization in Las Vegas dedicated to helping formerly incarcerated individuals reintegrate into society by supporting their return to the workforce, families, and community.

No amount of remorse will satisfy some people.
I noticed the same thing with Vick... Why do we even have a prison system? You can hate this guy as much as you want, but that has nothing to do with the fact that he's paid his debt to society when he gets out.

I definitely had disdain for Vick, but dude served a heavier punishment for his crime than any person convicted of that crime, ever. I absolutely supported his right to pursue his NFL career, or any other legal career, after he served his time.

He has the right to pursue any job that he can get.

I'm not sure how you read this quote and then say that he's not taking any responsibility for what he did. It doesn't read that way to me at all, seems to be acknowledging it fine.

"I sincerely apologize for not only being a part of that situation, but the fact my face is always in the news, it's always in the newspaper. So they have to constantly be reminded of the situation, be reminded of me."

Yeah, the event part I understand. It's the reporting about it I find weird.

To me, This is not a real apology. "part of that situation"? YOU were the situation. The rest of that statement he seems to be asking for sympathy.

I work with animals, so before he went on a whole redemption tour I hated him too. I think the fact that he came out publicly talking about what he did was wrong shined a spotlight on a problem that some people didn't know existed and probably helped save some dogs. That said, I always supported his ability to do any legal job once he was free.

I'm not sure Ruggs can do the same thing, but speaking at a charity event is a good start. Could he have used better language? Yes. But the action is what I see. Get him in front of kids talking about how he ruined his life and killed someone and see if he can't stop it from happening again.

It was a weak "woe is me" apology but words are pretty empty anyway.

He's paying his price and when he gets out I hope he can get his life back and that includes maybe playing in the league again.

And I really really hope that whatever he does for a living when he gets out the surviving family of that poor girl whose horrific death he caused gets a big piece of his earnings.

I do understand why people found his apology to be weak. The likely reason for that is the civil suit filed by Tintor's family is still open, and saying things like "I did it" or "I killed her" would have ramifications.

I imagine some will suggest he should willingly give 100% of his future earnings for life etc. To that, I say consult an actuarial table. It's kind of ghoulish but there are formulas for these things.

I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I’ve done some really stupid stuff. I am really lucky that the hurt I’ve caused people has for the most part been repairable. But I’m lucky.

I hope that all parties can find some sort of peace in this situation.

Imagine the same incident, Ruggs driving his sports car 100mph and hitting this woman in her car, but this time the womans car didn't catch on fire and she didn't die.
Just injuries. Along with several other people in their cars that were injured. Ruggs is charged with 8 felonies.
The NFL doesn't discipline Ruggs at all. Ruggs doesn't miss a game. ... See Rashee Rice

We have no idea if Rice will miss games yet. The NFL is very slow in making these determinations, y'know in the interest of letting due process play out... yadda yadda yadda.

Henry Ruggs III was moved from minimum-security to medium-security prison

The Department of Corrections said this in response to an inquiry from 8NewsNow.com: “We can’t disclose specific information on offenders. However, in general, an offender who commits infractions while at a lower-level custody, depending on the nature and severity, they could be reverted back to a higher level of custody.”

good

his "apology" six months ago was disingenuous, at best.

this didn't age well....

Not sure exactly what you're referring to.
The point being that Rice was allowed to play an entire season after the incident "while the legal system played out"... which there was no doubt of his guilt ... and he plead "guilty" to at his first opportunity.
Thankfully no one died but apparently a persons death is the point at which the NFL choses not to wait for the legal system to play out?

referring to the part that the NFL didn't discipline Rice "at all"....they did....just not in a timeline that made you or others happy.....seeing as there was another vehicle and driver involved in the racing causing the accidents.....letting the legal system play out seemed appropriate....had it just been Rice speeding and driving recklessly on his own (ala Ruggs) and he caused everything, the timeline may have been different and more acceptable to you and others....
