WR Jordan Whittington, LAR (1 Viewer)

Would you start Whitt over Sutton this week? I keep imagining a surprise performance for Whittington but can't even imagine a ceiling game for Sutton.

Antoine Winfield Jr. is out for the Bucs. SF is still SF and the Rams' OL is still the Rams OL.

But life wasn't meant to start the Courtland Suttons of the world. Fortune favors . . . you know how it ends.

I would say it depended on what I needed. I would have a really hard time starting Whittington until he'd had a game. Only one, mind you. But he would have to show me he's involved in the offense other than as a decoy for established guys like Demarcus Robinson and Kyren Williams, or guys that have been in the league like Tyler Johnson.

That's still a tough call. The tougher one would have been me on draft day thinking "I can draft Courtland Sutton or I can draft . . ." and picking Sutton. What round did you get him in?

(Yes, I'm prying.)

Haha, fair point!

Got him at the 6/7 turn in a 12-team redraft with keepers. I already had 3 great RBs so I was focused on WRs. Took Sutton and Hopkins as upside plays. Between those picks and my next picks in the 8/9 turn, there was only one WR taken (McConkey) who I still don't trust for this year. The only guy I would've taken instead in hindsight is Jameson Williams but I do feel like that's one of those 20/20 things where you wouldn't have done it at the time. Would've been a reach too.

Whittington is worth dropping Pierce over in a 12 man? Better qb, less competition, possibility to be Stafford’s favorite?

Regardless of the Rams' injury situation at WR, I just don't see......yet.....how you can start this guy. Maybe that will change, but I wouldn't do it unless I had horrible options.

Certainly not the result I was hoping for, but I'm still intrigued. Starting him cost me 4 points, so that's neither here nor there. He looks like a plus blocker, has above average hands and looks explosive with the ball in this hands which I thought would get him on the field more, but his snap count percentages actually went down in week 3. His total snap counts also went down week 2 to 3 which was the biggest surprise to me. I don't know, I see lots of potential here and play in a very deep league. I guess it depends on what kind of WR5/6 stash I can find on the waiver which will determine how much longer I hold Whittington.

As a dynasty stash, I'm still eager to see where this can go.

What does a realistic path to long-term value look like?

I think it starts immediately with run blocking and RAC prowess that gets him more and more snaps in the current window of opportunity. This leads to more Nacua moments like we saw in preseason. Maybe even a Diet Kupp impersonation on the occasional possession. This makes him the only acceptable choice for the 3rd WR role when Kupp and Nacua return. Reasonably active in the offense as the WR3 in '25 (or even back end of '24), with obvious upside from there if Nacua or Kupp gets hurt again. Kupp buyout or role reduction following '25. Nacua-Whittington stud duo in '26.

Is that the dream? Obviously, going to need a young stud QB at some point, but cart before horse.

Didn't watch the game, but seems like another step forward. Had a real nice stat line going into the half, so slightly disappointing there wasn't more with the Rams playing from behind in the second half. Need to strike while the iron is hot and take another step in week 5.

Run blocking seems to be getting rave reviews. Really hope that he can establish himself as the clear next man up, regardless of whether it's Nacua or Kupp that's out. Probably good for him that Nacua seems to be the later target date to return.

Limited in practice today.
Was counting on him if Kupp can't go. Who then? Tutu?
Wouldn't count on him even without Kupp. I don't think the Rams will be passing the ball much with a TNF game on tap. There's not a lot of season long value here with Kupp coming back. If Kupp goes down again, sure, grab him for the long term.
So he was active but had no targets? Anyone watch this game and know what's up w/him?

He got no snaps, he was my Kupp replacement in two leagues, have no idea why he was active but sure screwed anyone who played him
Yep. A case of very poor communication. He had an injured shoulder and was questionable all week but gametime they said he was active and good to go. Only for him to not play a down. Would have gone elsewhere if they weren't going to play him. They should have just not dressed him if he was still hurt.

Didn't watch the game but saw him on two occasions on Redzone.

First time was on a goal line run heavy package where he was blocking.

Second time was on a punt where he was one of the guys near the sideline chasing the returner.

I think he was not 100% healthy or LAR were having some sort of disciplinary action on him for whatever reason 🤷

That ain't right

most likely going to cost me the win in one league, so frustrating because could've picked up Atwell and won. lesson learned for next time, if in doubt go with the player without an injury designation.

And it's not like it was gamesmanship. Nobody is game planning for Whittington. It was just a terrible job by the Rams but they don't get any punishment for it.
