WR Josh Gordon, KC (1 Viewer)

Man... is this guy gonna suck me in again???
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!

and naturally it hits right before waivers run for many FFB leagues.

this can't be real. There's no way this is real.

Quick, someone check the stores in @Soulfly3 neighborhood to see if they've all sold out of lotion.  That would be the 1st sign.

Then check the dry cleaners to see if anyone brought in like 7 Gordon jerseys for dry cleaning.

This cant be happening. Not again.

Ok, so it'd be in 90 days.

and the browns might not want him.

So.....so I'm not sure what that all means. But I want nothing to do with it.
My thoughts exactly... until things change and there's actually a chance he gets reinstated... then...no no no, I won't do it

Yeah,,,, i might do it

So he's in rehab until September 21.  How does he get reinstated by tomorrow?  Would it be possible he gets reinstated even before he completes rehab?  Apparently this rehab is also not one of those rehabs where you actually have to stay there, since he's been having personal conversations with that one Browns fan and now working out with this Olympian.

Only suffering this madness in one dynasty league at this point. Made sure I picked him up off of waivers and threw him back in the pool in redraft hoping someone else wastes their FAAB on him. Great talent, but this song and dances is stale.

Lawrence Phillips
I just scooped Aaron Hernandez...

Seriously though, people are STILL talking about scooping a guy who isnt even in the league as if he is still going to eat up corners after 3 years out of the game if he ever gets back. The point is to manage your team well, not errand like. We were talking about what part is skill of this game in another thread. This shows zero skill if you are scooping a guy I just described. Definitely not some shark move, in my opinion.

Staying away from for every reason, but mostly because he isnt even in the league.

So we can trot out a WR5 over him?

Why not? In deep leagues, with deep rosters, why not even in redraft, Mavis? Been playing this game for a long game, and have been watching average bench spots kill my team as a function of just one or two points, even.  I might as well buy the lottery ticket.

I agree with this. I used to hold WR 4/5 guys like Ginn, Djax, or Coleman with the thought if things break the right way they could be a strong WR3 that I use each week. That is a fine way to have a decent team but not a championship team. Year after year the winners are the ones that picked someone up that then performs like a WR1.

So if I am taking flyers with someone on my bench I want someone who has top end potential. If it doesn't work out maybe I'm not decent but either way I wasn't going to win.

Im not in on Gordon yet but getting closer.

Yeah, I have a an actual 2 WR league, so it makes sense to have Gordon when Hill and Thielen are my WRs. And before anyone knocks my league, nobody here had Hill and Thielen before the third-sixth round.

I've just got a good team based on info.

I bought this guy low and sold high 3 times in prior years.  I picked him back up as a waiver claim a week ago with the hopes of doing it all over again.

It's a sickness I tell you. @Soulfly3 has infected you with it.

Next thing you'll have a John Gordon avi. (Then the sweats, nervousness, constipation & anal leakage)

these are very common side effects.

godspeed

Seriously, what's the harm?  In my dynasty league, I "bought him" as a throw in on a deal where I bought Chris Johnson back in 2012.  Won the title in 2013 with him (and Calvin and D Thomas, what a trio!).  When the suspension in 2014 happened, I traded him for Larry Fitz.  Bought him for a 3rd round rookie pick before the 2015 season, and traded him away for a pair of 2nds after the season (had to roster him all year, though).  Before the 2016 season I traded away the #21 rookie pick for Gordon and the #29 rookie pick (where I took S'ua Cravens way too early, stupid me - was hoping for a "LB listed as a DB" player).  Then packaged Gordon with a bunch of other stuff October of last year to get Aaron Rodgers.  Picked him back up off waivers a week ago.

Its pride at this point for people who are keeping him. No other reason, he is not going to reap any rewards, no one else is gonna pick him up if he was cut. He is owned in only one league I play in, and that because of pride as well.

Not true. In the two dynasty league I'm in, he's sitting on the IR in both of them and was picked up "for free" in each as free agent wire when the season began, just to fill an IR slot. I have him on IR in one of those leagues and if one of my "real" players gets hurt and needs that IR slot, Gordon gets kicked back to the curb. Simply a no-cost lottery ticket.

Thats the exception to the rule, if you can IR suspended players more power to you. No fault there.

Amazed your league allows suspended players on the IR.

Difference is at least they have value, small or not...Gordon has none.
OK. I'll give you a little challenge. List all your 3rd round rookie picks in all your leagues over the last 3 years. What is your hit %.  My guess would be that the contribution % of those guys is similar to the % chance of Gordon contributing.  A mid 3rd round rookie pick to me is probably of similar value.

I was curious about this as well because I swore Gordon was IRed last year in our league. I picked up a different suspended player (to not give away any interest I might have in Gordon) and I tried to put him on my IR... did not work. Picked Luck up since he is listed as "Out" and he does qualify. Seems kind of double standard IMO but I was kind of hoping I could IR him...

That being said I won't do anything until @Soulfly3 gives his full endorsement

Yeah, it gets a little slippery depending on the league and where it's hosted. In the league where I am commissioner, we eliminated the IR because teams kept abusing it. The rule was, "if the player is injured and actually on his team's IR, you could put him on IR. "

But people kept using it as a sneaky extra roster spot because nothing in our system forced you to take the player off of IR once he was reinstated.

It created a lot of work as Commissioner because teams would complain about other teams IR usage, and I had to become babysitter watching who had WHI on their IR.

So we all voted to add an  extra bench spot and get rid of it.  It's been very peaceful for me ever since.

Yahoo's general rule is if a player is out (injured, IRed) they qualify. So our IR spot is more of an "injured player" spot it seems.

I agree, IR is only for IR... not Out or injured... IRed in the NFL = IR in fantasy.

Guess I'm one of those "sneaky" guys now with Luck

I found the comments a little confusing but I didn't look for any corroboration because I'm lazy and not picking him up regardless.  I am not sure it is 90 days from completion of the program, he may just have been referring to the fact that the program was 90 days.

Do we have other sources that say reinstatement can't happen until 90 days after completion of the program, or is he eligible to apply on 9/21?

I'm not sure where this 90 days is coming from either.  My interpretation is that once he was done with his 90 day rehab, he was eligible to apply.  Which would fit the timeline his comments said about being reinstated for the Colts game.

My personal belief is if he gets reinstated he is quickly traded or released so it might be another week to land on a new team and a week or two to get up to speed.  I can't see how a team that cut a player like Haden because they were going in a different direction would keep Gordon around if he suddenly hits the payroll.

They keep him and try to showcase prior to trade deadline.  He is still on his rookie deal, so low cost high reward.

I’m confused about this. If Gordon is reinstated can he play immediately or does he have to wait 90 days? I assume that if he is reinstated he can play immediately, but some of the wording in that article is confusing.

So assuming he can play what would you expect from him? Could he walk in after a couple of weeks of practice and be effective? What would his role be? Would he be Josh Gordon or just another guy?

Pretty sure everyone is confused by that.

then there's the question of whether or not the Browns would even want him back.

IIRC they'd said pretty strongly that they were washing their hands of him after the last failed test.

They felt like it was a betrayal after sticking with him for his whole suspension.

so there's that.

We just added that this year. Also added a 2nd spot.
Never liked leagues with IR spots.  Why not just allow benches of 12 players and make it easier for everyone?

Has there ever been a player with significant and repeated substance issues that kicked the habit and then became really successful in the league?  Serious question.  So essentially, is there a Robert Downey Jr of the NFL?
