Yep - I'd read that. His defense was that he was told that he could not drink until the end of the season. The Browns season had ended. But the NFL considers the end of the season in February.
And if it were my career on the line, I would know exactly the date that I was clear to have a drink.
And I wouldn't drink until after that date.
I'm reasonably certain that Gordon signed a document that had the date on it. I'm also reasonably certain his agent & attorney have copies of a document with that date on it.
so there ya go - set a reminder in your phone, "Siri, set reminder for February 1st, 2017....you can now have a drink".
Yet somehow he drank before the date in his agreement. Whether it was based on a poor assumption on Gordon's part or not seems irrelevant and a bit of a hollow excuse.
I hate that he's being punished so severely for something 75% of society does on a daily basis, but unfortunately you have to look at his situation in a vacuum since he's part of a very small % of society that plays professional football for a living in the NFL, and under the NFL's rules.
