Julio Jones - WR - Falcons
According to ESPN Falcons reporter Vaughn McClure, the team is "certain" Julio Jones (foot surgery) "will return to his old explosive self."
Jones has twice fractured his right foot since leaving Alabama three years ago, but recently declared himself "back to the old Julio," and figures to be eased into training camp. Jones' current fantasy Average Draft Position is the middle of round two, where he could be a value pick if he indeed stays healthy. With Tony Gonzalez's 120 targets removed from Atlanta's offense, 25-year-old Jones has as much fantasy upside as any wide receiver in football.

He sounds confident and they are right to take it slow with who, IMO, is the franchise player. If the screw is larger than previously and he is already doing everything without contact, I'm only a little wary as a PT. The real test is if he can play the way he plays and fight through contact. Only then will he, they, and we know he is truly back to his normal self. He will be a tad risky, but IMO no more so than Dez or Thomas who play equally as physical. Green is less of a risk, but also less likely to carry your team for a week. Calvin is Calvin, but the persistent knee issues are also a concern (knees only get worse over time, not better). Don't shy away because of the foot, when they all have their concerns.I appreciate the updates but what is the team supposed to say?Its almost like they are trying to convince themselves that he is going to be okay.Rotoworld:

In dynasty its probably a good idea to not be concerned, but redraft I dont know man. once you factor in the injury angle spending a 2ndish round pick is a little too much risk/reward.I'm not terribly concerned about it. He broke his foot the first time, it was repaired and he was dominant. The second time if I'm not mistake wasn't that it just broke, but that they put a bad screw in his foot that broke. The way I've heard it reported, if the screw didn't break, there would be no injury. So now, they put a stronger screw in and hopefully things will be as they were.
Breaking the screw was a rumor that people spread because there was no info and everyone speculated. He said in a recent interview that he broke the same bone in a different spot and that they removed the old screw and put a bigger one in. Not that he broke the screw. They also took bone marrow out of his hip and put it in the bone to help it heal. The post above sounds all but convincing and as a dynasty owner, I feel very concerned that he will have a short career or not be as effective.I'm not terribly concerned about it. They did sign his $10M option for next year which becomes guaranteed in March. He's almost certain not to be cut by then.I appreciate the updates but what is the team supposed to say?Rotoworld:

Not if Dez, DT or AJ are there. The game is about studs. Julio is one. I'll take a lot of risk for the chance at his upside.
Doctors used a "cutting-edge medical procedure" to heal Julio Jones' troublesome right foot and prevent the injury from recurring.
The fifth metatarsal bone Jones has fractured twice is notorious for being difficult to heal due to a limited blood supply. In order to help the healing process, Dr. Robert Anderson took bone marrow from Jones' hip and injected into the wide receiver's foot. This coupled with a new, larger screw inserted into the bone should accelerate the healing process and decrease the chances of another re-injury. Jones could be recovered in time for the start of training camp, and is a lock for Week 1. He is a top-five wide receiver in all formats.

Another blurb where I think "is that good or bad?" when I'm done reading it.Rotoworld:

Yeah, I'm getting a little tired of these reports of how "team X is being cautious with player Y" well after the reasonable time frame of recovery.i understand being cautious but we're around 10 months out now from the injury. at some point you have to see what you've got and let this guy go full out. it's either going to hold together or its not.
I dont understand why people are so confident that he is coming back 100% better than ever. It makes no sense at all.My redraft isn't until the end of August, but if I was drafting now, I'd be taking advantage of the 1/2 round discount he's going for these days. Too bad I'm likely going to miss that window of value.

The Atlanta Falcons are bringing Julio Jones back slowly after his second foot surgery, but when he's been on the field during training camp the receiver has looked like his dominant self.
ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure reported that Jones looked explosive on Sunday in his most extensive practice session. McClure wrote that Jones didn't have problems cutting, was "stopping on a dime" and displayed no apparent effects of the surgery. The wideout even blew past stud corner Desmond Trufant on one play.
Just got him at 2.5 in a FFPC draft, thought that was nice valueHope you guys got him cheap.
I moved him in one of my PPR dynasty leagues this offseason. :( only got this for him too- Spiller, V-Jax, Foles, Mike Evans, Kelce, Allen Robinson, Fred Jackson. (I know just showin off) I do think Julio is going to have a monster season, top 3, but for that offer I had to punt him to the curb.Hope you guys got him cheap.
The only footwork he needs to work on is the way he gets his feet moving so fast nobody else on the field can catch him.
), Percy Harvin (iffy at best to play a full slate), Julio (returning from injury), and Josh Gordon (fingers crossed). Potential powerhouse. Potential MASH unit. Good thing I have Marlon Brown and Doug Baldwin
Seeing as he only has missed part of one season in the NFL, I don't think you can compare to Bradshaw. Yes, he hurt the foot in college, but as far as I know, that's 2 issues in his career thus far. Bradshaw has about 3 issues per season. Night and Day IMO.How does this foot issue compare with Ahmad Bradshaws?
I noticed that yesterday when they were at Falcons camp, he looked thick. They said he was still flying around the field.John Middlekauff@JohnMiddlekauff · 10h
Just saw Julio Jones on@nflnetwork.....Holy Hell, he looks like an OLB...Good luck covering him this year
From what I've seen during preseason action and Hard Knocks, he looks exactly the same. Can anyone who has followed this situation closely comment on Julio's current condition, and whether it looks like he has his old explosiveness back?
