WR Julio Jones, Retired (2 Viewers)

Steve Sarkisian wants to use Julio more in the red zone

This is good news for Julio owners.

According to the Data Dominator Julio had 10 targets inside the 20 yard line last season (2TDs), tied for 53 rd among wide receivers.  Jordy Nelson led the league with 31 targets.

Inside the 5 he had 5 targets, tied for 15th most among WRs (Fitz led the league among WRs with 10 targets).

Falcons.com's Kelsey Conway reports the team has shown a "real emphasis" on getting Julio Jones more red-zone touches during camp.

New OC Steve Sarkisian said that was his goal all the way back in June. After being targeted just nine times in the red zone and six times inside the 10 last season, Jones should see more work near the goal line this year, which will hopefully allow him to score more than the six touchdowns he managed in 2016. Jones is locked in as a top-three fantasy receiver.

He also hasn't had this OC since he was born.
Seventh season 4th OC, one double digit TD season.

Before you think I am being critical of your post, I actually agree with you. This thread is filled with a ton of posts from me arguing that Kyle Shanahan is a terrible OC when it comes to TDs for his #1 WR. Please note I am only referring to that specific aspect of Shanahan, he is great for compiling catches and yards for his #1 WR, which is why Garcon is likely a steal this season at his ADP. But the closer a Shanahan offense gets to the goal line the more likely the #1 WR gets used as a decoy. He prefers to either pound the ball in on the ground or get cute with a fullback or third TE in the flat.

I am hopeful that Sark takes a different path although we don't have any real NFL film of his offense so it's still a roll of the dice.

It's also possible that Julio just isn't that good in short space situations near the goal line. But I think that is unlikely.

Time to start up the  :drive:  again about how much it sucks owning this guy?

No TDs in, I believe, his last 9 regular season games. :sadbanana:

Very frustrating season so far.

I know he got hurt this week, allegedly not bad, but after 13 quarters it is starting to feel like a trend.

It’s officially time to be concerned about Julio...The Falcons in general are not anywhere near the same team they were last season. Julio Jones should have ripped the Dolphins apart today. At this point Jones is a #3 wr in fantasy.

i can appreciate the concern. he's not producing like he did last year overall. most troubling though is the TD drought. 11 regular season games for him without a TD.

I was lucky enough to trade Jones + McKinnon (I’m pretty stacked at rb)  for Antonio Brown + Alshon Jeffery last week. I’m feeling pretty good about that move as I don’t think Jones is going to be anywhere near an elite wr this year.

Dealt him two weeks ago for Hunt in dynasty.

Julio is a beast and can have huge games that win the week all by himself. But he gets injured a lot and doesn't score many TDs, and will be 29 after this season. If he stays healthy, that age won't mean anything. But I'm not sure his game ages super well, and all the lower body injuries as a younger guy add up. He usually toughs it out and ends up a 1200+ yard WR1 stud, but he's inconsistent. Figured it was time to move on and learn my lesson from having Calvin expire on my roster. Not that I expect Julio to retire "early" but he gets hurt a lot.

If Hunt ends up a first round startup pick this off-season, I doubt Julio could pull him, as a 22 year old stud, any more. And I'm not taking a hit to production so far.

Sark sucks as OC. This team looks just like they did pre Shanahan as OC. The HC Smith days. Julio will be neutralized next week vs NE. He's the new Andre Johnson, minus the volume, who never caught double digit TDs in his whole career.

I agree about all this but to be fair Andre Johnson had 8 TDs in 9 games in 2007. Pretty sure he would have gotten double digit TDs if he didn't get knocked out for the year.

It's amazing how terrible the Falcons look. Miami comes into your place and beats you?  Yep, time to panic.

I love Julio but his injuries concern me. I'll be looking to move him in dynasty, if I can get a decent trade worked out. But my immediate concern is ATL will kill his immediate trade value.

I agreed... He is a friggin' idiot for not maximizing Falcons' offensive arsenal.  It says a lot about his offensive play-calling.  Seriously, Sark got Ryan as a great orchestrator to direct his supporting cast, consisting Freeman, Coleman, Jones, Sanu, Gabriel, Hooper, and others, etc.

Glad I final own this guy and he sucks
I know right?  Traded for him a couple weeks ago.  Yesterday didn't kill me but it didn't help me get the W.

I think the offense is slower and just not going to huck it to him for those 9-150-1 games anymore.

They got away from the run with Freeman yesterday for some reason AFTER he broke the long run.
