WR Keenan Allen, LAC (1 Viewer)

The biggest concern for the entire SD pass offense is that the Chargers may try to "slow the game down," "keep the ball out of Manning's hands," and "keep their defense off the field." If announcers are spouting those cliche's in the first quarter, it could mean trouble for the SD passing game.

That was what happened the first time they played, and it's my chief concern.
If I were the coach of SD, that would probably be my game-plan as well. About the only way I've seen success against these HUNH offenses that sling it 80% of the time is to have run oriented methodical drives. Pick up 4 yards on 1st and 2nd down, then convert on 3rd and 2, all the way down the field so it eats up 7-8 minutes. You see it in college a lot too, just like how SC beat Clemson a few weeks ago when they controlled the clock 40 minutes to Clemson's 20.
Seems like the obvious game plan. But, it's out the window if Manning & Co. score a couple early TDs. Eff. I hate it when faced with difficult lineup calls come playoff time!

wont be slowing nothing down when they are trailing the donkeys 21-3 in the first quarter

Fact #1 Broncos will be up most of the game, if not the entire game.

Fact #2 Broncos need to keep playing hard to keep the #1 seed alive.

Fact #3 Rivers has the former Off Coord from the Broncos as a HC, so he knows what to do to keep them viable.

Fact #4 Rivers should be solid tonight, as the Broncos have allowed a multiple passing touchdowns all but twice since Week 6 and are bottom-10 versus quarterbacks for the season, last 5 week and last 3 week splits.

Fact #5 The Broncos secondary is not elite in any way, so Allen is a start this week with no hesitation.

Fact #6 The Broncos are red hot offensively right now but there defense showed real signs of weakness in Week 14 and was bailed out by the strong offensive performance.

Conclusion: the run game for the Chargers will be non existent most of the game and the #1 target for Rivers is Allen.

Allen was banged up last week but still managed 2 scores. They abandoned the passing game last week due to being up so much to the Giants. This week is the total opposite. They will need to pass pass and pass some more and I see Allen being the direct beneficiary of that tonight.

You're aware they played just a month ago, right? In that game, the Broncos went into halftime ahead 21-6, yet the Chargers ran the ball 35 times and passed it 29 times.

As an Allen owner, I'm hoping they realize it's more important to score TDs on every single drive than it is to milk the clock, but I'm worried they'll just roll out version two of the ball control gameplan they used last time.

why would go with the same game plan that you lost with?

The other side of the coin on these facts is that the Chargers are playing a whole different Manning this week. Against the Giants, they could do what they wanted and the Giants have a terrible secondary. If you are right and the Chargers ARE trailing a lot, then the Broncos have the luxury of focussing on the best WR on the Chargers. And if the Chargers run ad naseum and keep this close, the tons of attempts aren't there.

I don't think this is one of those games where you set the stage up in your mind and then build the case for all the opportunity. I think this is one of those games where you call it right down the middle. Expect a good contest and THEN start looking at the matchup advantages. I think Allen has one but must also look at the flow of the game.

That's definitely over thinking the situation.

Denver's defense is giving up a lot this year: 8th for most points allowed and 4th for most passing yards allowed per game.

Wow sure is over thinking. In Shutouts world you'd never be able to start the top WR on a team that's going to get blown out. Which usually is a dream come true for owners with top wrs. I'd like all my wrs teams to get blown out weekly.

yea sure beats ball control run oriented gameplans... Pass pass pass is the gameplan in them situations so I would say that would benefit the WR1.........

So tempted to sit Allen for Racist Riley (@Min) in one league and Cordarelle P (vs Phi) in another. Have a strong feeling that Allen will be decent but unspectacular tonight, while the other two go off on Sunday. Just. Can't. Do it.
Fixed. Should take your own advice Fitzy:

I wish there was a thumbs down option for posts in this forum rather than the new "like this".

In any case, I have to play Allen this week against Denver. Lots of upside to hope for.

You guys completely miss the point. You are connecting dots that don't necessarily exist. That is all.

haha, thats some decent ownage

I'm going with my gut - I'm feeling a huge game for Allen tonight!
I sure hope so. I do think he will score at least once.

Worst case scenario SD gets blown out and they are passing like crazy in there second half, which equals a lot of targets for Allen, which means receptions.

Actually, worst case scenario is he gets hurt again...

If Norv Turner was still coaching, I wouldn't be concerned about this, but obviously that's not the case
