Marcus Easley, WR

Height/Weight: 6-3/210 | Birthdate: 11/02/1987 | Birthplace: Stratford, CT, USA | Team: Buffalo Bills | College: Connecticut

What can you guys tell me about this playe? Given he doesn't have a lot of competition ahead of him and Lee Evans is a smaller faster player. This guy has some upside possibly huh?

"upside"? in a manner of speaking, yes, but it needs to be qualified somewhat. i think he only started one year at UConn. consequently, he is pretty inexperienced and likely very unpolished. he's got a steep learning curve ahead of him. he comes into a bad situation too. the QB situation is unsettled but that doesn't matter really. it doesn't look promising whether it's edwards or brohm at the helm. perhaps gailey is better than jauron but that's not saying much either.

he does have some advantages like the physical tools. he also has some pretty unproven or unimpressive players ahead of him. if he's available in a dynasty draft then i'd go after him in the later rounds. if a redraft? you're better off looking elsewhere.

This is what I wrote in the Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Thread:

Seems like people are cold on Easley, but like I said in post above, I am a UCONN season ticket holder. I have seen every single game, and record them to watch them again after the game.

Here is what I think of Easley:

He was a walkon and did not really play his first two seasons. HE had to work his way up from the bottom, on a run, run, and run some more team. The quarterback play was absolutely atrocious through his junior year. There were times when UCONN ran a set with one receiver Easley's Junior year, and that receiver was Easley, mainly because of his tremendous blocking. So right off the bat, the Bills are getting a receiver who values blocking quite a bit. That should endear him to coaches. UCONN hired Joe Moorehead to be their O Coordinator last year, and they finally had a semblance of a passing game. THey also got decent qb play, although Zach Frazer was not very good at hitting the receivers where he was supposed to. Which is why I do not get the bad hands rep. If Easley got his hands on it, he caught it. And his speed and run after the catch ability is quite good. Here is his issue as I see it right now, he is raw in his route running. But the Bills are getting an incredibly hard worker, with a tremendous size speed ratio. I would strongly suggest people take a flier on this guy in fantasy drafts.

Another UCONN homer. Good analysis. Never got the bad hands rep either. I don't remember Easley dropping much of anything last year.I'll definitely take a shot at him.

I like Easley's future and I think he can be pretty good. For this year though, he'll be a solid special teams contributor & maybe see a little time at WR. Barring injury, I just don't think he'll be developed enough in year 1 to to rise higher than WR4 on the Bills. And if he does start getting regular playing time, it'll be very late in the season during FF playoffs.

The x-factor is his blocking. Buffalo will probably run 60+% of the time in 2010. If Hardy/Steve Johnson struggle in the run game, the door could open for Easley.

This was nice to hear. Frankly, I do get a little nervous when a drafted WR only had 1 good year at college. Speaks a lot about his work ethic too. Thanks.

well, I think it depends on what the circumstances are behind his one good year at college.in this case, he made the team as a walk on, and the fact he ever became a starter is amazing in itself. I am not a fan of his, but I do see a player who made himself a potential career through hard work and some natural talent. we dont get to see a ton of college games in Canada, but the one game I did watch, I noticed the guy make 2 nice catches that led me to believe he does have good hands and may have what it takes. The only 2 issues I have personally, is that I only saw the one game so my first hand knowledge on the guy is limited and he is playing in an offensive system that is not outstanding and does not have an outstanding QB tossing him the ball. To me, this may tarnish his potential somewhat.

either way, I have seen enough of him to declare him to be a player of interest. (much like Sims-Walker 2-3 years ago)

from the scouting reports I have seen I'd guess he may need another year or two for that potential to show at the NFL level, but keep an eye on him for sure. if he shows some ability in camp, and performs well in the exhibition season we may see him perform sooner rather than later.

for now, I wouldnt use a draft pick on him in any format other than a dynasty draft, but I would keep him marked as a potential waiver wire pickup.

Yeah, you hate to guess, but that doesn't seem good at all. Going on IR very suddenly Week 1 for an "illness"

With something like that, there's really only a couple of possibilities.

Wishing Marcus a swifter than expected recovery from whatever it is he's fighting. God Bless young man.

Disappointing to hear this news. Easley impressed me in the preseason and he could have become a good part of this passing game. Now, with back to back injured reserve seasons, he is looking at a steep battle to return and earn a spot.
