WR Match Ups to Exploit/Avoid (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Week 7 is upon us, and I've added the top 5 Sleeper Alerts at the bottom and also predicted final scores. Let me know if there is anything else you guys would like to see. Let's get to some WR analysis! :hophead:

Baltimore @ Buffalo:

Kyle Boller will be starting for the Ravens this week against a Buffalo defense that ranks 31st in the league. Rookie QB Trent Edwards continues to impress and JP Losman may not be getting his starting gig back.

Mason/Williams/Heap: A down week last week for Mason as he only got a season low seven targets against the Rams. With Boller subbing in for McNair, Mason seemed to favor Mason more out of all the other receivers. It looks as though Mason will not loose a step if Boller’s is the team’s QB. I expect another double digit target game this week against Buffalo. Demetrius Williams runs a lot of deep routes, and if Boller can heave him one Sunday, he could have a nice long TD to add to his stats. Todd Heap has been ruled out this weekend, so you will have to find someone else to fill in.

Sleeper Alert: Demetrius Williams – 4 catches, 60 yards, TD

Evans/Parrish: A solid game out of Roscoe Parrish in week 5 as he caught all six of his targets for 37 yards. The same can not be said for receiver Lee Evans who continues to just kill fantasy owners. In no way shape or form should this guy be in your lineup.

Ravens 20 Buffalo 17

Arizona @ Washington:

You have to like the Washington defense this year. They are just locking teams down. Last week I recommended benching all Green Bay receivers, and sure enough the Skins D kept in check. This week they get to feast on Tim Rattay who will be getting his first start in place of the injured Kurt Warner.

Moss/Randle El/Cooley: What a horrible weekend for Moss and Randle El. I knew they would struggle against the Packers defense, but not that bad. The one bright spot for the Skins was TE Chris Cooley who had a monster game catching nine passes for 105 yards and a TD. I expect the Skins to run the ball this week, so again this week, the only player I can recommend from this bunch is Cooley. Check the injury status of Moss and Randle El.

Boldin/Fitz: It was only a matter of time before Kurt Warner got hurt folks. Suddenly the Card receivers are looking a little shaky without Leinart or Warner. This would not be a good time to put Fitz or Boldin into your lineup. I just don’t see many good things happening with the Cards offense this week.

Score: Skins 21 Cards 10

Atlanta @ New Orleans:

This battle could decide who suckuth the most in the NFC South. Is anybody really going to watch this game?

White/Crumpler: It’s time to sit Mr. Crumpler, as he has now stunk out the joint the last two weeks. Roddy White is their best receiving option, but with Lefty starting at QB now, it’s hard to gauge how well the receivers will do. Bench Falcon receivers until further notice.

Colston/Moore/Patton: Leave it to David freakin Patton to blow up last week against the Seahawks for eight catches and 113 yards. It was the most receiving yards by a Saint this year. And what happen to Marques Colston? One catch for two yards and a TD? I appreciate you getting into the end zone but it’s not like the Seahawks had double and triple coverage on you. I would expect better numbers this week from Colston. Lance Moore has now moved ahead of Devery Henderson as the #2 WR. He could have some value if the Saints offense starts rolling. Whenever that might be?

Saints 24 Falcons 21

S.F. @ NYG:

Remember the good ‘ol days where it was Joe Montana and the 9er’s against Phil Simms and the G-men? And now this week, we will be exposed to Trent Dilfer and Eli Manning. My how things have changed.

DJax/Battle: Back after a bye week, DJax and Battle will have their hands full with an improving Giants secondary ranked 14th overall. I honestly thought the 9er’s would be a playoff team this year, but their offense has been awful. Don’t count on DJax and Battle for much other than 50-60 yards. Gore will have more success than any other San Fran offensive player.

Burress/Toomer/Shockey: Now here’s a match up I can’t wait for, Plax Burress against Nate Clements. I personally think Plax will have the advantage simply because of his height. Plax has been using defenders all year, and I don’t think this weekend will be any different. Toomer and Shockey continue to play second fiddle to Burress, but it is highly possible they both find their way into the end zone this week.

NE @ Miami:`

Wow, so you saw what Brady and his weapons did against the Cowboys on the road right? Well, it gets better as they take on the Dolphins who will NOT be able to put any pressure on Brady and receivers will be open all game long. The Fins are winless and will be fighting for a win,

Moss/Welker/Stallworth/Watson: You can’t help but to feel sorry for every team the Pats play. They are not even running the ball these days. But why would you when you’ve got this group of receivers? I expect Brady to air it out yet again this week, so look for Moss and Welker to have big days. Beware of Stallworth as well. He’s found the end zone twice now in the last two weeks. Stallworth had been quite within the offense but has suddenly gotten hot. TE Ben Watson has been ruled out due to injury, so keep him out of your lineup.

Booker/Ginn Jr./Brown: I for one was a little surprised the Fins let Chambers go, but all this does is boost the value of Marty Booker. Booker now is the Fins number one receiver with Ginn Jr. apparently in line for a spot in the starting lineup. I think Booker could have a nice game only because the Fins will be trying to throw the ball to keep pace with the Brady Bunch. Ronnie Brown continues to pour in yardage and catches. This is a tough match up for him running the ball, but I could see the Fins dumping passes off to him.

NE 38 Miami 17

Tennessee @ Houston:

Gage/Williams/Moulds: With the injury to Vince Young, the Titan receivers take a huge hit. That’s because Kerry Collins is now the QB. Veteran Eric Moulds had his best game of the year last week against the Bucs catching six passes for 49 yards. Justin Gage also had a good game catching four balls for 82 yards. I still feel Roydell Williams is their best receiver, but with Kerry Collins at QB, he and all the other Titan WRs will struggle. Do you trust Kerry Collins at QB? I didn’t think so. Don’t start any Titan receiver this week.

Davis/Walter/Daniels: QB Matt Shaub is doing a nice job with what receivers he has. Last week, Kevin Welker out of all people blew up of 12 catches and 160 yards receiving. Don’t expect that to EVER happen again. Anrdre Davis did not have the type of game I was hoping for, but did manage three catches for 30 yards. Owen Daniels is the most consistent receiver on the Texan team right now and he has become an every week starter, especially in PPR league. Sooner or later, he is going to find the end zone.

Texans 17 Titans 14

Tampa Bay @ Detroit:

Somebody just needs to tell Jeff Garcia to just chuck the ball this week. Everyone, and I mean everyone has had success throwing the ball against the Lion secondary. I expect this to be a high scoring game.

Galloway/Hilliard: If there was ever a week to have Galloway and Hilliard BOTH in a fantasy lineup, this is the week. Without a running game, they should both be very active this week. Last week, Galloway had a beautiful 69 yard TD catch from Garcia who put the ball EXACTLY where it needed to be and Galloway did the rest. Hilliard continues to surprise people as he caught four passes for 59 yards. Both of these guys have a chance of getting finding pay dirt, and they also have a chance to go over 100 yards receiving.

Sleeper Alert: Ike Hilliard – 6 catches, 80+ yards, TD

Williams/CJ2/McDonald: After a week off, the Lions receivers will look to get back on track and forget about their three point effort two Sunday’s ago against the Redskins. Look for Kitna to hold nothing back and get the offense started off fast. Roy Williams who has been very quite lately but look for Kitna to get him involved early. CJ2 has been dealing with back issues, but with a week off, he should be ready to go. Shaun McDonlad will also have his usual 5-7 catches for 60 yards with the strong possibility of a TD.

Detroit 34 Tampa Bay 28

Kansas City @ Oakland:

Gonzo/Bowe/Webb: Tony Gonzales abused the Cincinnati secondary last week, and now has two straight 100 yard efforts in a row. He will create problems within the Raider secondary this weekend and should have his third 100 yards game in a row. Rookie Dwayne Bowe was quite most of the day, but I fully expect Huard to find him more often, and it may start this week. Jeff Webb had a nice game against the Bengals, but he’s too inconsistent to be in a fantasy lineup.

Sleeper Alert: Dwayne Bowe – 6 catches 90 yards, TD

Curry/Porter/Jordan: I see this trio having a good game offensively. Ronald Curry is getting more looks though than anybody else within the offense. Culpepper had an off game last weekend but is now back playing at home where he should be able to rebound. Look for Curry again to have a solid all around game. Porter is too inconsistent and should not be on a fantasy roster. Jordan should have his usual 4-6 catches for 20+ yards or so.

Sleeper Alert: Ronald Curry – 6 catches 80 yards, TD (This may be his last week as a sleeper alert as he is producing on a weekly basis)

Raider 24 Chiefs 20

NYJ @ Cincinatti:

This will be a high-scoring game folks. Hell, Chad Pennington is a great start this week, because the Bengals couldn’t stop a Pop Warner football team right now.

Coles/Cotchery: The Jets decided to feed the ball to RB Thomas Jones last week, and Coles and Cotchery’s stats took a big hit. However, they won’t be able to keep up with the Bengals offense this week running the ball, so I fully expect the Jets to air it out. Cotchery should be able to do his usual 6-8 catches and has a good chance of going over 100 yards receiving. Coles, who was held to one catch for 27 yards, should have no problems finding the end zone this week. Expect Coles to bounce back with 80-90 yards and a TD.

Housh/CJ2: Wow, is it time to anoint Housh the number one option on the Bengal offense? I remember Dodds writing an article earlier this year that said he was due for a break out year. Good read Dodds! Last week, Housh exploded for eight catches, 145 yards, and two TDs. CJ2 has now been held out of the end zone for the three straight weeks. But don’t fret Chad owners, a TD this week is almost guaranteed. Expect HUGE numbers from Housh and CJ this week.

Bengals 31 Jets 24

STL @ Seattle

Holt/Bruce/Bennett: With QB Mark Bulgar back into the lineup, all three of these guys get an upgrade. Neither one of these teams have a running game, so expect Hass and Bulgar to pass the ball a ton. Holt continues to disappoint his owners, but you can’t sit the guy. Bruce is still working with some hamstring issues, but he should play and be productive. Drew Bennett has been a complete bust this year, and I’m starting to wonder why the Rams signed him?

Engram/Burlson: Seahawks receiver Bobby Engram is enjoying a career year and continues to carry the Hawks offense. You can expect a big day out of him this weekend playing at home against the Rams. Nate Burlson was Hass’ favorite target last week catching six passes for 63 yards and a score. Burlson was targeted a whopping 15 times and is great WR3/Flex option this week.

Sleeper Alert: Nate Burlson – 5 catches, 90 yards, TD

Seahawks 24 Rams 17

Chicago @ Philadelphia:

Berrian/Moose/Olsen/Clark: The TEs in this offense are getting a lot of looks. Olsen and Clark have been producing some nice stats since Brian Griese took over at QB. Last week, Olsen was targeted seven times, and Clark five. They are both serviceable fantasy TEs at this point. As long as the Bears D keeps getting shredded, Berrian and Moose will also be padding their stats. Last week, both of these guys found the end zone, and I expect it to happen again this week.

Sleeper Alert: Olsen – 5 catches, 60 yards, TD

Brown/Curtis/Westy: Each one of these guys had solid outings last week. Westy looked good in his return, and last week’s recommended Sleeper Alert from yours truly caught 5 passes for 121 yards and a TD. And just when people were starting to write off Reggie Brown, he goes out and shows some form of life. He has the talent I think McNabb just has to find him. All three are good starts this week, but I like Reggie Brown to continue his roll.

Sleeper Alert: Reggie Brown – 6 catches 80 yards, TD

Eagles 24 Bears 21

Minnesota @ Dallas:

Wow, so if Brian Freakin Griese can throw for 381 yards and three TDs against the Vikes, imagine what the damage Tony Romo and company will be able to inflict. And AD should be able to run all day on the Cowboy D. This guy is a freak of nature.

Williamson/Wade/Rice: Look for the Vikes to run the ball this week against the Cowboys. Sidney Rice disappointed big time after his week 5’s strong performance. Wade had more targets than any other Viking receiver last week with seven, and Troy Williamson had the only TD catch. I’m just not a big fan of Tavaris Jackson, so I would stay away from Viking receivers this game.

TO/Crayton/Witten: These guys will feast on the Vike secondary. Last week, it was their defense that let the Boys down, not the offense. Owens and Crayton were very involved, while Witten was the forgotten man. It’s been quite a while since TO has had a 100 yard game, but I think that changes this weekend. The Vikes have no one to match up with TO’s size and as long as he does not drop any passes, he should be headed for a big day. After seeing what the Bears TEs did to the Vikings, you can also expect Witten to rebound as well.

Dallas 34 Vikings 20

Pittsburgh @ Denver:

If you like defense, this is the perfect game for you to watch. This should be a physical low scoring game with a lot of big hits. Strap your helmet on fellas!

Holmes/Ward/Miller: Not a good match up here as Big Ben and company will face the league’s best pass defense. Look for the Steelers to run Parker and Davenport for most of the game. If you need to start on of these receivers, Holmes is the best bet to have the bigger day. Look for other options though if at all possible.

Walker/Marshall: Not good options this week. Check the injury status of Walker if you plan to use him. QB Jay Cutler has struggled the last couple of weeks, so combine that with a fierce Steeler defense, and you have a long day with Cutler.

Broncos 17 Steelers 14

Indy @ Jacksonville:

This game will be a lot better than last weeks Monday Night snoozer between the Falcons and Giants.

Wayne/Harrison/Clark: Receiver Marvin Harrison will return to the Colts lineup, and he has historically had some good games against the Jags. Reggie Wayne has had an average year so far, but with a healthy Colts lineup, you can expect Wayne to start heating up. Amazingly enough, TE Dallas Clark has been the most consistent option on the offense. The return of Harrison though will take away some of the looks he had been getting. All three are must starts this week, despite the Jags tough defense.

Williams/Northcutt: The Jags will be running the ball a lot this week with Jones-Drew and Taylor, but if they get behind early, it could mean Williams and Northcutt have to produce. They are the two best options within the offense. I like Northcutt this week as a possible sleeper. He’s had a solid season so far, and I can see him getting into the end zone some way some how this weekend.

Sleeper Alert: Northcutt 5 catches 75 yards, TD

Colts 27 Jags 20

Top 5 Sleepers:

1. Ronald Curry (possilby last week on this list)

2. Ike Hilliard

3. Greg Olsen

4. Dwayne Bowe

5. Nate Burlson

Sleeper Alert: Ronald Curry – 6 catches 80 yards, TD (This may be his last week as a sleeper alert as he is producing on a weekly basis)
Really?Week 2 - 2 receptions...12 yardsWeek 4 - 1 reception...16 yardsSeems like he is producing on an every other week basis. Even this past week, he had 6 receptions, but for only 73 yards.

He's been more consistent than those two weeks you've mentioned. One of the performances you mentioned was against the NFL's best passing defense. He should have no trouble this week producing stats.

How has he been more consistent?Every other week so far he has been bad.2 out of 5 weeks he has scored a total of 1 point in non-ppr leagues.Week 1 he was big with 133 and a touch.Week 2 he was awful with 2 receptions for 12 yards.Week 3 he was ok with 62 yards and a touch on 3 receptions.Week 4 he was again awful with 1 reception for 16 yards.Week 5 he was ok with 73 yards. His biggest game was against Detroit. His ok games against Cleveland and San Diego as they were getting killed.I don't think Im misrepresenting the guy at all. He simply has not been that consistent. And he might not have trouble this week against KC. But I would not say he will not be a sleeper anymore because he has been producing weekly...because he has not been.

"Who own the Chiefs?" "Owns. Owns."

Ronald Curry Does. OK, maybe not "owns" them but pretty good track record.

I've noticed the trend has been HOME :goodposting: and AWAY  for Curry. Let's see if it keeps up that way with a home game this weekend.

Which is what I said about CPepp. The Raiders play much better at home. I just don't see any other receivers besides LJ. He's their best WR... by far!

bad writeup on Burleson . . . Holmgren is upset with him for quitting on routes . . . Seahawks fans are upset with him as well . . . he may not even start this week . . .
 The most obvious being the deep ball that looked like a punt after Burleson quit running. It's a pretty telling statement that Holmgren said he wants to giove Courtney Taylor a look as his 2nd WR opposite Engram - even while Burleson and Obamanu have been putting up decent numbers. They just suck at route running and Hasselback DEPENDS on these guys being where they should be.

Guys, I've been wrong before. But what other receivers do they have besides Engram? Alexander is garbage right now so I don't see them running the ball. They will have to pass. I don't see Hackett coming back this week, and even if he does, he needs to shake off the rust doesn't he?

I agree they don't have a lot of options but it sounds like Holmgren has reached the end of his rope with Burleson. I think you will see him start this week but I think he's a risky play.FWIW:

POSITION WATCH

Wide receiver. D.J. Hackett practiced for the first time since spraining his right ankle in the regular-season opener. Sort of. Hackett took part in the early individual drills, but then watched the team portions of practice.

How much he plays Sunday – and if he plays against the Rams – will be determined by how much Hackett is able to do the rest of the week.

"We'll have to wait and see how it feels once we get closer to the game," Hackett said.

In his continued absence, Nate Burleson continued to be the split end, although Courtney Taylor also got a lot of reps – and made a lot of catches. Bobby Engram will start at flanker against the Rams because Deion Branch is out at least one more week with a sprained foot.

Holmgren didn't exactly offer a ringing endorsement of Burleson when asked about his progress in the grasping the nuances of the passing game.

"Nate's had his moments, a little like our offensive team. We've had our moments and we've had some things where I didn't like it so much," Holmgren said. "He's a talented man, I'll stick with that. He has a lot of talent. Now, he's got to discipline himself to do it kind of the way we want it done all of the time. Be a little more consistent that way. But he's a try-hard guy, too. I want to be a little more disciplined in that part of our game."

A little tidbit on Crumpler. Lefty throws a much harder ball than Joey. In fact, Alge himself said he threw it like Vick. Who was the only guy who could consistently hold on to Vick's lasers? Algernon.

Just a thought, Alge could be a decent play if Lefty can get the ball down a few (hundred) feet.

 Good info. here. The only way he gets out of the dog house is posting 200+ yards and five TDs on the Rams this week!

I suppose Walker's surgery doesn't help Marshall all that much this week do ya think?

Yea, big loss for the Broncos here. But Bradon Marshall can pick up slack. He's not a good play this week or next week against G.B. But after that, the schedule lightens up a litte, starting with Detroit in week 9 and KC in week 10.

Good read! You might want to consider canning the use of the CJ2 label though. Applying it to both Megatron and Ocho-Cinco could confuse some folks.

Actually, I see H.Miller having the best chance as Pitt will run all day on Denver and then have opportunities when they get inside the 10 yd line. Also, I don't see this as a low scoring game.....I believe Pitt's defense will create enough turnovers to make this an easy game for the Steelers.

good post, but I wouldnt call Wayne average so far. On pace for 90rec, 1180yds, 13tds.

I fully expect Marshall to get far to many looks not to be productive in fantasy. He should get 15 looks.

:goodposting: Wayne has more ppg than he did last year
Meh, OK maybe I overlooked Wayne's stats. He's had two TDs since week one, where he blew up though. But at the pace you guys so rightfully pointed out, Wayne's having a good overall season. He's healthier than Marvin right now, so I do expect his stats do improve.

Good read as usual. Booker is the guy I be watching this week Chambers had 19 targets last week, Brown had 11, I sure Brown will get some of the Chambers looks, but If Booker can increase to 12 targets and catch 50% he could be WR 3 material, with garbage time potential for points, as I don't think the FIN's will be leading in to many games.

You are giving very little respect to the Tampa secondary. I won't be surprised if we see a repeat of Detroit Washington. I think Detroit will be lucky if they score 17.

The Bucs are playing on the road against the Lions who will be playing motivated after their last loss. They've had a week to think about things, and I would expect the Lions to get back on track in the dome and put up at least 24+ points. I would be STUNNED if they do not get at least 17 points. There is no way they post another 3 point effort.Me predicting the high score though has more to do with the Lion secondary than anything else. Garcia and company will be airing it out all day long and the Lions will need to keep pace by putting points on the board as well.

Broncos 17 Steelers 14 :lmao: Upset Special comes through! :banned:

Top 5 Sleepers:

1. Ronald Curry (possilby last week on this list) :lmao: Four catches for 45 yards, TD

2. Ike Hilliard   Very nice! nine catches, 92 yards, TD

3. Greg Olsen  Meh, not bad. four catches for 48 yards.

4. Dwayne Bowe  Meh, three catches for 84 yards.

5. Nate Burlson :goodposting: one catch, 12 yards, KO returned for a TD
Not a bad week overall with the predictions, including my upset special of the Broncos over the Steelers! :boxing:
