Great feedback last week guys on my article
So again, I've changed things up. Below is the color code I will follow for the article this week.
Exploit
Avoid
Good Start
Neutral
I did not include the pass defensive rankings in here this week, because I simply do not have time. I also think I could have done some better analysis, but again, holidays and work are limiting my time. I hope everybody has a good Turkey Day and I'll be in here on and off to talk some WR analysis. So lets jump into week 12!
Green Bay @ Detroit:
Jennings/Driver/Lee: Do you really need me to tell you to start these three? Detroit’s Pop Warner pass defense will be no match for Brett Favre and company. Jennings is who I like the most out of this group. He should be able to grab a long ball from Favre for a TD. Donald Lee is on fire right now, and is an every week starter if you ask me. Driver should be good for 80+ yards, and I’m predicting it right now. Donald Driver should find the end zone this week.
Exploit: Donald Lee – 4 catches, 40 yards, TD
Williams/Johnson/McDonald: Wow, this offense has slowed down considerably. Ten points against the freaking Giants? John Kitna better have his arm ready. After I called out Roy Williams in week nine, he’s come through with back to back solid efforts. I expect the Lions to force feed the ball to Roy, so 80-100 yards and a trip to the end zone should make his owners happy. WR Shaun McDonald is as consistent as they get. After a solid 100+ yards outing against the Giants, he’s a safe start yet again this week. I know Calvin Johnson found his way into the end zone, but I said this last weekend, he is just not getting enough looks within the offense.
Avoid: Calvin Johnson
NYJ @ Dallas:
Coles/Cotchery: These two had a hard time getting open against the Steelers offense, but it should be easier against an average Dallas secondary. There are reports that Coles has a bad ankle sprain and may not play on Turkey Day. Cotchery will be getting more looks if Coles does not play and should be in your fantasy lineups in what may turn out to be a shootout.
Exploit: Jerricho Cotchery – 6 catches 100+ yards, TD (Expect some big numbers from Cotchery if Coles can’t go)
TO/Crayton/Witten: I’m still amazed at the type of defense the Redskins played against TO last week. He’s the one guy you don’t want beating you and he scored four times, and made it look easy in the process. Witten is a PPR machine, and is always a threat to score. Receiver Patrick Crayton again had a slow week and should not be started.
Avoid: Patrick Crayton (not involved enough to consider starting)
Indy @ Atlanta:
Wayne/Clark/Addai: This team misses Marvin Harrison more than I think people realize. When was the last time you saw Peyton Manning not throw a TD? Reggie Wayne is doing a nice job, but Clark is hurt and the other receivers are just not stepping up. I could see the Colts force feeding the ball to Addai a lot as the Falcons run defense is not very good. Reggie Wayne is the only receiver I could see putting into a fantasy lineup. I don’t think Peyton will be held without a TD pass again, but I think your expecting too much if you see him throwing for more than two.
White/Jenkins: I usually have no problems recommending these two, but with Lord Byron at QB, I’d sit these guys. I have not idea why the Falcons decided to start Lefty over Harrington, after Harrington had led them to two straight wins. The Colts have a stingy pass defense, and I don’t see the Falcons having any success through the air.
Avoid: ATL WRs
Seattle @ STL:
Branch/Hackett/Engram: I’m finally changing my mind about Hackett and I can see why people like him in the Seattle offense. The guy has been on fire since returning, and Seattle is doing nothing but passing the ball. Hackett caught nine passes for 145 yards and a TD and is an obvious start this weekend against the Rams. Bobby Engram has remained very active within the offense, even with the return of Deion Branch. Deion Branch returned for the first time since his injury and caught four balls for 31 yards. I’m not sure how healthy he is, so I’d sit him until he has a good game.
Avoid: Deion Branch (Just how healthy is he really?)
Holt/Bruce/Jackson: Just when you thought the Rams offense would run wild on San Fran, they throw up a whole 13 points? The Rams will need their passing game to keep up with the Seattle in what should be a high-scoring game.
Washington @ TB:
Moss/Randle El/Cooley: Could it be Santana Moss is FINALLY healthy? Moss had his best game of the year against the Cowboys catching nine passes for 121 yards and a TD. TE Chris Cooley also had a nice game catching eight passes for 89 yards and a TD. Randle El also chipped in with seven catches for 53 yards. But slow down before you automatically shove these guys into your fantasy lineups. The Bucs have a MUCH better defense than the Cowboys, and I see this as a low scoring affair. The Redskin passing game is going to struggle, and the TD I see is coming from TE Chris Cooley.
Exploit: Chris Cooley: 5 catches, 60 yards, TD
Avoid: Santana Moss (C’mon, you don’t actually believe he can duplicate his performance against the Cowboys do you?)
Galloway/Hilliard: QB Jeff Garcia should have no problems carving up the Redskin banged up secondary. Galloway and Hilliard may not put up TO numbers, but both should be able to find their way into the end zone.
N.O. @ Carolina:
On paper this looks like a mismatch. It’s the high-powered Saints against the Panthers who are getting torched on a weekly basis. However, if you look closer at the games between these teams, Carolina has given the Saints fits defensively, and have been able to slow down the Saints. David Carr actually started at QB and the Panther won back in week five. I for one would not be surprised to see Carolina pull out a win here.
Colston/Patten/Bush: WR Marques Colston continues to remain red hot for the Saints. Colston’s got 27 catches for 406 yards the last three games. Meanwhile, receiver David Patten has slowed down a bit and may not be worth starting anymore. He had his hot streak, and then POOF, he’s gone. Reggie Bush amazingly is headed for a 100 catch season. He’ll be good for another 6-8 catches against the Panthers.
Smith/Carter: With Steve Smith out with an injury last weekend, Drew Carter filled in nicely with five catches, 132 yards, and a TD. All reports indicate Smith could have played, but they decided to keep him on the sidelines. I expect Smith to return, and long as Vinny is the QB, Smith should be able to reward owners with a TD this weekend.
Tennessee @ Cincinnati:
Williams/Gage: Receiver Justin Gage is starting to heat up and has now had two solid outings in a row. In week 11, Gage caught six passes for 66 yards. His counterpart Roydell Williams four catches for 47 yards against the Broncos Monday night. Both would be excellent option as WR3/Flex this week simply because of the match up. If I was to guess who was getting the TD, I’m going with Gage.
Exploit: Justin Gage – 6 catches, 70 yards, TD
Housh/Henry/Chad Johnson: It’s time for Ocho Cinco to get into the end zone. He’s been out long enough and we need to see a celebration dance by Chad damnit! I think it happens this weekend, just in time for the holidays. I can definitely see Housh making a trip to the end zone, but the guy I don’t like this weekend is Chris Henry. For some odd reason, I just think he will be kept in check.
Avoid: Chris Henry (It’s Chad Johnson’s game this weekend!)
Houston @ Cleveland:
I bet everyone thought this would be a snore-fest at the beginning of the year. Eleven weeks later and this may actually be a game I’d like to watch.
Johnson/Walter/Daniels: Andre Johnson is back and it did not take long for Shaub to find him for a deep one. Johnson returned from his injury with vengeance by catching six passes for 120 yards and a TD. This is a great match up for AJ and the rest of the Texan receivers.
Exploit: Owen Daniels – 5 catches, 50 yards, TD
Edwards/Winslow: Well, Edwards and Winslow can’t score every week. Last week against the Ravens, Edwards and Winslow were both held out of the end zone. This won’t happen this weekend, as I see Anderson looking to make a statement at home in the Dog Pound!
Buffalo @ Jacksonville:
Evans/Parrish: The Jags can be had through the air, and Lee Evans should have no problems finding space to get open. This is one of those games where Evans could explode for 100+ yards and at least a TD. That being said, it has been an up and down year for Evans, so temper your expectations. By some stroke of luck, somehow WR Roscoe Parrish was able to grab one catch Sunday night, and it just happened to be for a TD. In other words, leave him on your bench.
Williams/Northcutt: Now that QB David Garrard is back, the Jag receivers actually have some value. Receiver Reggie Williams is the receiver to start in week 12. Now I know he only had two catches for 62 yards, but he did manage to catch a 36-yard pass from Gerrard. Buffalo’s secondary is not that great so Garrard and company should not have any problems airing it out. WR Dennis Northcutt caught three passes for 36 yards, but he has no fantasy value.
Exploit: Reggie Williams – 5 catches, 80 yards, TD
Oakland @ Kansas City:
I see the running games dominating both sided of the field. Both Oakland and Kansas City have good pass defenses.
Curry/Porter: As mentioned above, not a fan of starting any Oakland WR, but Curry is the better option if you are in dire need of a WR3/Flex option.
Avoid: Curry/Porter - (Bad Match Up)
Bowe/Gonzo: These guys continue to get the job done in the passing game, but I again don’t like the match up. If you have better options, look elsewhere.
Avoid: Bowe/Gonzo – (Bad Match Up)
Minnesota @ NYG:
Viking WRs: The Vikes ran the ball 32 times last week. That should tell you what kind of shape the Vikings passing game is in right now. Unless you really really want to lose this weekend, stay away from Viking receivers.
Burress/Toomer/Shockey: Plax Burress continues to play week after week with his sprained ankle. The problem is his overall stats have taken a nose dive! The player benefiting the most from this so far is TE Jeremy Shockey. If Burress continues to have problems with his ankle, Amani Toomer’s numbers may increase with Burress hurting. Toomer and Shockey are solid starts against the Vikes, but I’d be careful starting Plax. He just does not look right.
Avoid: Plax Burress – (Injury concerns)
Exploit: Amani Toomer – 5 catches 60+ yards, TD
S.F. @ Arizona:
Davis/Battle: Battle and Davis were both very active against the Rams with Trent Dilfer at QB. You saw what the Cards secondary did to Carson Palmer last week right? I expect the same kind of performance against the 9’ers. If you’ve got better options you better use them, because Dilfer will most definitely struggle with the Cards ball hawking ways.
Boldin/Fitz: As long as Warner is the QB, both Boldin and Fitz are solid options. Keep an eye on Boldin’s hip injury. It is apparently bothering him again, and may limit him to some extent. Larry Fitzgerald is the main man right now in Arizona and should be receiving most of the looks in the offense.
Baltimore @ San Diego:
This has the potential for a shootout. Neither pass defense is playing great. The receivers in this game could be very busy.
Clayton/Mason: Both of these guys make solid WR3/Flex options. Last week everybody’s sleeper Mark Clayton killed anybody who stuck him in their lineup. (Yes, this included me!) If you watched the game though, Clayton was targeted deep several times by Boller. Clayton again has a great match up to exploit and despite last weeks poor performance makes a nice WR3/Flex play this week. Derrick Mason who started out on fire catching passes has cooled down considerably. The switch to Boller at QB I believe may hurt his stats in the long run. In a PPR league, Mason could be good for 8-10 catches for 90 yards and a possible score.
Gates/Chambers/LT: Receiver Chris Chambers led the Chargers in targets last week with 10. He converted four of them for 94 yards. He’s a solid option this week against a vulnerable Ravens defense. Meanwhile after a two week absence, TE Antonio Gates found the end zone again for the sixth time this year. Gates is the best TE in football and a must start. LT caught five of the six passes thrown his way for a season-high 93 yards. All three should be in your lineup as this is a match up to exploit.
Denver @ Chicago:
Walker/Marshall/Stokley: WR Javon Walker may be back this weekend, but check his status before game time. Brandon Marshall and Brandon Stokley have done a fine job for the Broncos since Walker has been out. This would be a favorable match up for all the Denver WRs against the Bears poor pass defense.
Berrian/Moose/Olsen: Grossman did a nice job finding these three last Sunday against the Seahawks. Bernard Berrian caught nine passes and went over 100 yards, while Moose chipped in 71 yards receiving. TE Greg Olsen is going to be good folks. I’ve been impressed with him the whole year. Champ Bailey, Dre Bly, and the Denver defense though could create some problems for the Bears passing game. Not a good match up here for the Bear receiving core, and Rex can very erratic sometimes. The only receiver I see doing well this week is Bernard Berrian.
Exploit: Bernard Berrian – 6 catches 80+ yards, TD
Philadelphia @ New England:
Curtis/Brown/Westbrook: With the status of QB Donovan McNabb in doubt due to an injured ankle, this group will struggle. Even with McNabb this would be a bad match up, as I see a Buffalo type game this week again from the Pats. The Eagles will fall behind early and the Eagles will be forced to throw and make mistakes. Sit any and all Eagle WRs. Westy will do the most damage on the ground and through the air.
Moss/Welker/Stallworth/Watson: You just have to start these guys, even Stallworth. Brady is going to throw the ball a ton and run up the score. I could maybe see the Eagles trying to lock down Moss, but that’s a big maybe. The guy I like a lot this week is Welker. Moss will no doubt receive double if not triple coverage and that should free things up for Welker. I could see eight catches for 100+ yards and a TD. Watson is also an excellent start as the middle of the field should be open while the Eagles focus on the WRs. And then there’s always the possibility Stallworth could bust out and have a good game. You really can’t go wrong here folks.
Exploit: Wes Welker/Ben Watson – These guys will be taking advantage of all the attention on Moss.
Miami @ Pittsburgh:
Booker/Hagan: Uh, NOPE! The Steelers are going to be a little angry about the Jets loss and absolutely just spank the Fins.
Holmes/Ward/Miller: Big Ben is tossing the rock this year folks as he’s got 22 passing TDs through 10 games. Holmes, Ward, and Miller have been solid all year long and the Fins have no problems giving up TDs through the air. All three of these guys need to be in your fantasy lineups.
Top 5 WR Match Ups to Exploit:
1. Donald Lee TE GB
2. Jerricho Cotherty WR NYJ (Coles injury only means more action for Cotch!)
3. Amani Toomer WR NYG (Love the match up against the league's worse pass D)
4. Bernard Berrian WR Chi.
5. Justin Gage WR Tenn.(He WILL score this weekend against the Bengals!)
Top 5 WR Match Ups to Avoid:
1. Plax Burress (Injury concerns me.)
2. Santana Moss WR Wash.
3. Patrick Crayton WR Dall.
4. Deion Branch WR Sea.
5. Chris Henry WR Cin
Have a safe Holiday folks, and good luck this weekend
