Michael Gallup caught 5-of-11 targets for 98 yards in the Cowboys' Week 16 loss to the Eagles.
Gallup is now over 1,000 yards on the season. Gallup hauled in a 41-yard reception on the second play of the second quarter, but it might have been a 79-yard touchdown had Dak Prescott gotten more air underneath it. The 10-target performance was Gallup's fourth in his past seven games. He's had a higher ceiling than Amari Cooper in the second half of the season. That will remain the case for Week 17 against the Redskins, a defense Gallup got for 6/68 in Week 2.
I think you answered your own question and I agree. He is a mid-tier WR2 to a high end WR3; so WR18-26 in dynasty. The upside is that I think he will be resilent and have a long career with a high ceiling, but the downside is that I doubt he will ever be a dominant fantasy WR. He's a good piece to have but you still need a WR1 as do the Cowboys.Where does he rank in dynasty? I hope they resign Cooper, as Gallup doesn't look like a legit #1 WR...he's a great #2
agree. hes shown he can do it in college and showed a lot this season. Put me in the camp of Dallas not resigning Cooper. IMO Gallup is a hot commodity this offseasonAmari Cooper has been oft injured it seems, not enough to be out of games, but enough to disappear at times. Gallup has usually stepped up during those. Depending on how the Cowboys handle Amari Cooper's contract, Gallup could be the future #1. And at worst he's a pretty nice WR3 if they re-sign Cooper. The floor is pretty good and the ceiling is there. He's developed a lot in the 2 years in the league, and I do think he can handle #1 duties as long as someone is opposite him. Cobb won't cut it.
This is all true and probably what transpires, but hes still going to see a reduced role the next two years with Lamb on board (and Jarwin stepping up) than he would have otherwise. I bought him in a couple places before the draft and wasn't all the pleased with the outcome. That said, hes still going to have big weeks. Just more of a whack a mole type situation.Everyone is talking about how Lamb is the future and Amari is thier #1. What if Gallup is the top guy on a cheap contract for 2 more years and Amari is cut/traded because of cap issues? Sure they just gave him a contract but sometimes these contracts don't finish and it's not like it only happens in rare cases. Gallup's been a beast, still only 24 and in a great situation. I don't understand the suppression of his value.
The Lamb pick was a luxury that created a future problem but it sure does help them until that problem arises. 2022 it looks like as Amari's cap hit is 6mill and they're off the hook.
Why is his role reduced? He is the #3 on that offense, possible the #2 option if he supplants Amari as #1. Sure Lamb gets playing time and Jarwin is now the possible starter, that doesn't mean Gallup goes away or even diminishes his role. Cobb and Witten each had 83 targets, that's enough vacated targets for new players to learn their roles. This is all true and probably what transpires, but hes still going to see a reduced role the next two years with Lamb on board (and Jarwin stepping up) than he would have otherwise. Well for starters, Jerry's face went full glory hole when they made the pick and they proceeded to talk him into wearing 88. There's going to be internal pressure to use him, its how they operate. Why is his role reduced? He is the #3 on that offense, possible the #2 option if he supplants Amari as #1. Well, they're not moving on from Cooper for two years, which I stated and is why I referred to it as "short term ceiling".This is true, but assuming they move on from Cooper, this offense can produce two good fantasy WRs. Gallup is helped by Cooper, whom the coach was pressured to use last year, and Gallup still almost out performed him. I can see Lamb doing the same thing for Gallup
2020 is a great situation for Gallup, with Lamb likely to be low man on the totem pole. 2021 will be the one to worry, but 2021 could be huge. It seems to be a foregone conclusion for many that this race is Hacked Up with Lamb being the eventual winner, but that’s really not the case. Great buy right now
They're all gonna eat. Dallas and KC have most complete offense in the league. How are teams going to guard Gallup and Jarwin with attention on Zeke, Cooper and Lamb? Dak gonna eat.
I think what people are overlooking on Cooper's contract is that it is almost just as easy to trade him after one year as it to release him after two years. So really they got an out after one year via trade, an out after 2 years via trade or cut on the condition he's not injured.Well, they're not moving on from Cooper for two years, which I stated and is why I referred to it as "short term ceiling".
All very good points. One thing I'll add is Cooper really wants to be a Cowboy, for whatever that's worth. No idea about how Gallup feels about that when his contract is up.I think what people are overlooking on Cooper's contract is that it is almost just as easy to trade him after one year as it to release him after two years. But I'm that so quick to assume and not sure why everyone else is that if Dallas holds Cooper and Gallup for next two seasons and has to make a decision on resigning Gallup in 2022 or letting Cooper walk that the decision will be to let Cooper go. It seems obvious they structured Cooper's contract to give them options when Gallup's contract is up and I guess people assume Dallas will want to save money and get younger by resigning Gallup and letting Cooper go one way or another and that makes sense. But forecasting out two years we know things can change. What if Gallup plays so well along with increased cap that he's more expensive or problematic in terms of guarantees and annual pay to resign him then keep Amari on his deal which at that point is more team friendly since it's basically year to year? Let's also remember Amari got $20M a year from Dallas because he balled out for most of his time there before his slide late last year and it's not at all crazy to think Dallas would rather just keep Amari over Gallup if the pay is close because they just think Amari is better and 29 on a year to year deal the age is not a big factor.
I own Cooper, Gallup and Lamb in leagues. The only things I feel positive about are that Lamb is only one I feel is safe to be a Dallas Cowboy for several years and that both Gallup and Amari won't be on the team in 2022. Which one leaves between Gallup and Amari, and if they decide to move on from one of them as soon as 2021 instead of letting this play out till 2022 is the big unknown to me.
I would absolutely be doing both yeah. But the time to do it might be midway through the season when/if Lamb starts getting snaps and Amari has had a few blow up games.IHEARTFF said:So you’re saying buy Gallup and sell Cooper? Not that I disagree with that logic.
You should check out the horse racing thread with otb_lifer in the FFA if you have any interest in horse racing. Just a plug for my bud.No horse facing fans here I guess... All of my puns went over everyone's heads *sigh*...

Agree, no one has any interest unless he's basically a throw-in. I think he'll be solid this season so I have no issue keeping him. Can't give him away. Will probably have to wait until the season when he has a decent couple games.
100% a holdCan't give him away. Will probably have to wait until the season when he has a decent couple games.

He is def a hold for 2020 unless someone offers me a bag of hammers, based mostly on FFPC. I'm fine to hold him (and likely never start him) for 2020, but when we have to cutdown to 16 next offseason, if he hasn't done a ton fantasy wise I could be cutting or moving him for a ripped bag of plastic broken hammers. But if Cooper moves on it will have been worth it to hold, so pretty much have to. Because nobody is buying.100% a hold
Nice trade.I traded for Gallup about 2 weeks ago at the tail end of my rookie draft. My team needed WRs and had RB depth and I made the choice to move older players and refresh my roster b/c the team has been just good enough to stay in the 1.6-1.9 range but not good enough to truly content with the top teams.
Gallup, Michael DAL WR; Howard, O.J. TBB TE; Ferrell, Clelin LVR DE
for Bell, Le'Veon NYJ RB

Going to get even less credit now that they have Lamb.
McLaurin
I think Gallup is a very good pro. I think Lamb is special. I'm definitely not sold Gallup repeats.Going to get even less credit now that they have Lamb.
Cowboys have 190 vacated targets. More than enough for Lamb to have a good rookie year with around 90 targets or so, Jarwin to step into Witten's role with 70-80 targets and for the remaining targets to be sprinkled around to Cooper, Gallup, ZekeI think Gallup is a very good pro. AgreeAs for Lamb: I have watched a ton of him in college and I can't deny that his ceiling is incredible. Higher than any WR in this class with only Ruggs and Mims even coming close for me
Stupid Jerry Jones trying to stick it to the Eagles, stupid 49ers for waiting and taking ####### Aiyuk, stupid Eagles for not trading up for Lamb
Who should they have taken instead?JetMaxx said:Agreewith the quoted. Lamb was the best and worst pick of the first round. Very good talent and great value, screwed a rival, but WR is a non premium position and they had 2 studs there already.
Chiaisson, Gladney, McKinney personally. Maybe Queen/Murray?Who should they have taken instead?
I really doubt this. I think their eyes lit up when Lamb fell to them and they knew that they could be out of Cooper's contract very soon. But I get Lamb--just don't believe he would have been the pick if not for the Eagles being five picks behind looking for a WR
It's a good point and another reason to believe Gallup's reduced value is only temporaryI really doubt this. I think their eyes lit up when Lamb fell to them and they knew that they could be out of Cooper's contract very soon.
He'll still be cost controlled when Cooper is gone. I also don't think the teams think that much about each other's needs, save for the Philly/Dallas Goedert exception. Don't forget, they barely were five hundred last year. Might be time to address what makes the team better first, and I think they did by going BPA for sure.
Yeah, Jerry noticed. If yokels like me noticed how bad it was, so did he. I'm merely talking about his motive, which is inherently speculative. Also I know Gallup/Cooper had some drops and Cooper has a disappearing streak but idk if you can say WRs are the biggest position group at fault for the Cowboys only being .500
I think it has to be safeties and pass rush (and now CBs as well with Byron Jones gone)
AgreedI really doubt this. I think their eyes lit up when Lamb fell to them and they knew that they could be out of Cooper's contract very soon.

Doesn’t everyone? But Jerry hates the Eagles
Didn't Cowboys sign Cooper to a long term extension AFTER Lamb was drafted? This makes no sense. If the Cowboys really thought this they would not have extended Cooper to a five year, 100 Million dollar contract, with 60 million in guarantees.rockaction said:I really doubt this. No. That's just wrong. They signed him in March, drafted Lamb in April.Didn't Cowboys sign Cooper to a long term extension AFTER Lamb was drafted? This makes no sense.
