WR Ricky Pearsall, SF (3 Viewers)

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Thursday that Pearsall will play Sunday after returning to practice this week. Pearsall remained limited on Thursday.

“He’s had a good week,” Shanahan said on KNBR, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “He’s done some good things. We’ve got to be smart with him, easing him back in. That’s why he’s been limited this week. You can’t just throw a guy out to run all these routes as much as you do when you’ve been out six weeks. But he did a little on Wednesday, did a little bit more today, but he’ll be good to go for Sunday.”

After week 2 my dynasty trio looked ready to take me to a title run of Nabers/Pearsall/Wilson

Getting Pearsall back now with Wilson also now on IR couldn’t come at a better time but lol he’s my WR1 now behind Shakir and Meyers.

I’m so toast but still glad to have him back!!

The only constant in FF is change.

If you have other options, leaving Pearsall on the bench for another week seems optimal. But if you're desperate, he should get a couple targets.

Just happy we may get him back full speed by playoffs. I had bigger dreams when targeting him in August but the idea of adding a WR2 for the rest of the season is good news.

Coach Yac
Kyle Shanahan on getting Ricky Pearsall back:

“The way Ricky was playing before he got hurt, I mean, he was playing like a true number one receiver in this league. Really playing like the guy that we wanted to draft. He had an unbelievable offseason, unbelievable start to this season. I think the hardest thing with losing Ricky was he was really the only receiver that we got an offseason with.

He was the only one who we had throughout training camp with JJ not doing training camp and then JJ getting hurt after. And when Ricky went down, it was really tough because we were having guys with KB, Skyy, even D-Rob being out that month, guys that really had been practicing with us for a while. So that was a huge challenge for us, especially with Mac Jones coming in.

But all these guys getting so much better while Ricky’s been out and then being able to bring back Ricky, who even though this is only his second year, he’s quickly become our veteran, who’s had the most reps with us and stuff. So it’s huge to get him back for the talent of the guy, and excited he’s coming back with Brock Purdy, too.”

I bet he gets way more than a couple.

I find it super odd that CBS still has him projected at 2.0 in our PPR league. I have no need to even consider starting him, but just find it very strange. Sometimes CBS seems to do like "quasi-projections" when a guy is questionable (like projecting a guy at 6 points where he would be at 17 if healthy, but averaging it down because he may not play at all). But he's had no injury designation for a good while now, and his projection even changed a little, so it's been updated. I wonder if this is an error or they are really projecting that he will get almost no play.

I find CBS' projections to be really bad, typically. They are always slow to change projections when someone is questionable.

I want to be mad at him for this this goose egg but my other options were QJ and Tex Johnson who combined for 0.6 points so at least Pearsall has a chance to top that.

Womp womp. It's not like I had better choices, but man i really needed a spark from him. Instead just add him to my season long parade of duds and injuries. I'm going to rename my team The Struggle Bus, Destination futility.

Hoping the lack of production was just first game ramp up, but sure doesn’t instill confidence in him being a valuable playoff contributor after stashing him for so long.

Hmm. Coincidence or were they onto something?

It was also game flow. They had a huge lead early. Purdy only had 200 yards.
Fair point, although Kittle, Jennings and CMC all had 6 targets each. It does bode the question about where Pearsall stands in the pecking order going forward.

Up to his ability to get open. Purdy has shown he likes him in the past but if he's not open, there's other guys that will be.

Agreed but what happens when both are open? Right now, I fear Pearsall would not get priority, which would severely limit his fantasy value - we may have gone from waiting for him to get healthy to waiting for someone else to get hurt. Perhaps overstated, perhaps true. Murky either way, for now.

Week11 what stood out to me is he lead WR room in snap share with Jennings. Both at 75%. Bourne’s snap dramatically dipped to 24%. Demarcus 49%.
I didn’t think Purdy would be comfy enough after 6 weeks to go downfield. But he had a solid 3 TD day. I expect them to reconnect in week12.

Snaps -

Wk 10: Kittle 90%, Jennings: 92%, Bourne: 68%, Robinson: 46%, Moore: 17%
Wk 11: Kittle: 87%, Jennings: 75%, Pearsall: 75%, Robinson: 49%, Bourne: 24%

Targets -

Wk 10: Kittle: 9, Jennings: 9, Bourne: 2, Robinson: 4, Moore: 1
Wk 11: Kittle: 6, Jennings: 6, Pearsall: 2, Robinson: 2, Bourne: 1

Jennings remained #2 in pecking order and WR1 last week, even though Pearsall was on the field for the same amount of snaps. Does that hold forward? Target share was much more even between those two the first month of the season, but that feels like ages ago right now.

Overall target pie was limited last week by game script. As long as Ricky's knee is good, I can see much better days ahead for him if he keeps getting WR2 snaps in this offense. Production may be wildly inconsistent though, which probably means WR3/flex at best, unless the situation turns. Pearsall is a good player, but is he better than Jennings?
