WR Terry McLaurin, WAS (3 Viewers)

 McLaurin has hurt a bunch of fantasy teams.    Fortunately I only had him in 1 of 4 redrafts....... and this week I'm starting Chris Godwin, Davante Adams, and Brandin Cooks over him  and benching McLaurin. (start 3 WRs)

In said league, I have an essentially meaningless matchup this week, so I can afford to bench him and hope he comes back to life. I'm already locked in to a playoff spot.  (10 teamer, 4 teams make the playoffs, weeks 16-17)

He has some good matchups in the fantasy playoffs, but its gotten impossible to trust.

Everything I have read says the QB play is so bad there, he is in a hole he likely won't get out of this season.

At this point, we have to hope they draft a better QB, or sign a better veteran who can help his output......  if this doesn't change, I'm definitely OUT on McLaurin next year in drafts.

 Maybe some of the Redskin homers can chime in , as I don't really watch those games.

I'm not sure if it's 100% on the QB, which is subpar. I think McLauren is a very good WR, but at this point is somewhere in that Tier 2-3 area. I don't see a lot of separation against good CBs.

If Heinicke is still the QB in 2022 F1 will be a WR3. The occasional outburst but more than a handful of duds as well.

 
The offense has been essentially bereft of playmakers all year long.  I believe there was only a single game where Terry, Curtis Samuel, Logan Thomas and Antonio Gibson were all healthy, and they didn't all make it out of that week unscathed.

He played well with Heinicke last season, so I don't think QB play alone is the problem.

 
Thinking of trading him away for someone that can actually help in the playoffs. Everything feels like a sell low right now, but someone like a Melvin Gordon or even OBJ could help out more for this year's stretch run.

 
Terry McLaurin (concussion) did not practice.

McLaurin was spotted stretching with trainers on the sidelines but he was ultimately held out of practice because of the concussion. He suffered the concussion in the third quarter of the Football Team's Week 14 matchup with the Cowboys and was quickly ruled out. McLaurin will need to progress through the concussion protocols before he's cleared to play in Week 15. If he can't go, Adam Humphries, who led the team with seven targets last week, would be Taylor Heinicke's top receiver.

Trying to gauge value on McLaurin dynasty wise.  What does the future hold? New QB?

Can acquire him for the cost of Goedart and a low 2nd Round Rookie Pick in 2022.  Have Kelce and Kmet as my other TE. No real needs on my team.

League format could affect his value a bit one way or the other possibly but I’d have no problem giving that up for McLaurin. Don’t think it’s all that close.

 
Terry McLaurin (concussion) practiced in full Sunday. 

It is the second full practice in a row for Washington's No. 1 receiver. McLaurin probably could have played if Washington's game went off as scheduled on Sunday, but he looks all but certain to suit up now that the game has been moved to Tuesday. The questions now are will the game happen, and who will be throwing McLaurin the ball?

How valuable is Terry? Scary Terry? F-1 McLaurin? Let me put it this way: The main dynasty team I own is 3-11. Rosters McLaurin. We're out of the playoffs. No ####, right. (.532 all-play. Bad luck season and some holes.)

But they still count your scores during the games when you're eliminated. You still can set a lineup. Being the competitor I am, I still want to do well. We have to start 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 3 ANY TE/RB/WR FLEX and 1 RB/TE FLEX. 

Terry can't even crack my starting lineup -- that's how bad this guy has been this year. Utter bust from the fantasy Twitter projections and hype.

Ron Rivera told The Athletic's Ben Standig that Washington has a "tremendous amount of interest" in re-signing contract-year wide receiver Terry McLaurin. 

McLaurin is entering the final year of his rookie deal and has operated as Washington's No. 1 wide receiver since they selected him in the third round of the 2019 draft. Rivera said that no deal for McLaurin was imminent, but contract talks should get going at the combine. The Commanders' biggest priority this offseason is to find a quarterback. They likely need to get their 2022 starter in place before committing to McLaurin, to ensure they have the cap flexibility needed to land their preferred quarterback. However, McLaurin is far and away the Commanders' top playmaker in the passing game. A multi-year extension would make sense for all parties, assuming Washington can deliver on an upgraded signal caller.

Bump Terry given that Wentz is going to the Commanders for mid-round picks. 

He can at least push the ball down the field, unlike Heinicke.

I think it's an improvement but I'm not sure how much.  It feels a little better.  But it's honestly not as much excitement as I had for Ryan Fitzpatrick slinging it allover the field to Terry.

No, that's true. But it's an improvement over Taylor Heinicke. That was just...awful. You wonder if the WAS team won't re-sign Fitz as a back-up. 

 
McLaurin GMs have got to be happy with this. I said it upthread but it bears repeating: There will be no more overt disrespect of arm strength that he saw last year. 

 
The Athletic's Ben Standig reports "teams are monitoring" Terry McLaurin's contract status "in case an opening to acquire McLaurin emerges."

Head coach Ron Rivera, meanwhile, said the Commanders would "not entertain" any calls about McLaurin. Entering the last year of his rookie deal with Washington, McLaurin could be the next wide receiver to get a shockingly high payday if the Commanders lock him up for the long run. Standig reported that "sources on both sides anticipate intensified extension talks for McLaurin starting around or after the NFL Draft while pointing toward a June or July resolution." McLaurin would make around $20.16 million under the 2023 franchise tag if the two sides can't come to an agreement this summer. McLaurin, entering his age-27 season, has had an exceedingly frustrating stint in the horrendous Washington offense, led last year by Taylor Heinecke, one of the worst starting QBs in the league by many measures. Carson Wentz should be an upgrade for McLaurin and the team's pass catchers, and there's little reason to believe McLaurin won't remain the Commanders' clearcut No. 1 wideout in 2022. A team would have to be ultra-aggressive with an offer to acquire McLaurin before the Commanders start contract extension talks.

I agree, what has killed Terry is he's had the worst QBr rating the last 2 years in the entire NFL. And a hobbled Alex Smith and Heinicke just couldn't throw in tight windows. That's not a problem for Wentz, his warts have to do with poor decision making, but what nice change for Terry that he'll have a gun slinger who can hit him deep and thread a needle. I think Terry will be one of the biggest surprises this year at WR. Glad I own lots of shares.

every day Washington doesn't extend Terry McLaurin they pay more in the end

  • - in his last year of his rookie deal
  • - great WRs keep getting bigger deals
  • - just 62.7% of his targets were catchable last yr, lowest rate of all WRs with 100+ targets
  • - will only improve in 2022 
 
The Athletic's Grant Paulsen reports the Commanders "have yet to make a contract offer to extend Terry McLaurin."

Paulsen noted that defensive tackle Jonathan Allen was extended during the start of camp last year, so the lack of an offer doesn't say much about the Commanders' pursuit of McLaurin. He added, "Late July feels like the timeline for McLaurin deal, too." Head coach Ron Rivera previously stated the team has a "tremendous amount of interest" in locking the speedy receiver down on a long-term deal. With McLaurin being one of the few bright spots on an otherwise dismal Washington offense over the past decade, the team won't be letting him go anytime soon. Though Carson Wentz is unlikely to rekindle the fire that burned during his glory days in Philly, he is still the best quarterback McLaurin has played with in the NFL. Expect high-end WR2 numbers from F1 in 2022.

The Washington Post's Nicki Jhabvala reports that the Commanders and contract-year WR Terry McLaurin are "still far apart" on extension talks, and that McLaurin seems "unlikely" to show for minicamp.

The Commanders have had an optimistic company line about McLaurin all offseason, but we haven't seen much in the way of actual reasons to believe they'd get the contract done publicly. Coach Ron Rivera said he expected McLaurin at minicamp. The Commanders don't necessarily need him to be in at this point, but it sure would be nice to get him and Carson Wentz some practice reps together before the season.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Commanders have "intensified" their efforts to get a long-term deal done with WR Terry McLaurin.

"He sat out minicamp. That sort of sparked more talks. They've sort of been upping their proposals. ... Nothing imminent yet, but this could get done even this week. Definitely before training camp is Washington's plan," Fowler added. McLaurin's holdout is one of the major stories of the summer, but everything the Commanders have put out publicly would lead us to believe that they very much want a deal done. Then again, we would have said the same thing about A.J. Brown before he was traded.

Plus the money is mostly upfront which means in year 3 could be get traded to a better team which will pretty much guarantee they also lock him up to a long term deal.

I know we all have our opinions but anyone who thinks differently on that tells me they never really watched Heineke play for more than a few snaps. He looked so overmatched as an NFL QB. His arm strength was the weakest I’ve seen.

 

Terry McLaurin caught 2-of-4 passes for 58 yards and one touchdown in the Commanders' Week 1 win over the Jaguars.​


Fresh off a three-year, $71 million extension, McLaurin ranked fifth on the Commanders in targets on Sunday but hauled in a 49-yard touchdown from Carson Wentz with the game on the line. Trailing 22-14 in the fourth quarter, McLaurin broke free down the right sideline, torching the Jags' secondary for the score to put the Commanders within two points. McLaurin's only other reception came on a nine-yard pass in the second quarter, as Wentz gelled with Curtis Samuel and Antonio Gibson throughout this one. McLaurin will see more opportunities as the season carries on, but these low-volume days could become the norm with the return of Samuel and emergence of rookie Jahan Dotson. McLaurin should be a reliable WR2 next week at Detroit.

Terry McLaurin caught 4-of-8 targets for 75 yards in the Commanders' Week 2 loss to the Lions, adding one carry for an additional seven yards.​


McLaurin saw 35 of his yards come on a scoring drive that included three passes of 20+ yards. Playing in an offense chock full of receiver talent, McLaurin was Washington's second-leading receiver on the day behind Curtis Samuel, but he and Carson Wentz struggled to get much going on the day. The Commanders were in catch-up mode throughout this one after trailing 22-0 at halftime. In what could be a high-scoring affair next week against the Eagles, McLaurin should be a safe bet as a WR2.

Passing is SO MUCH BETTER this year, but I think it hurts Terry in FF. We have 3 really good WRs. Terry won't feast every weekend or so it seems.

I haven’t watched the games. Have defenses shaded his way leaving Samuel/Dotson with the one on ones? They’re obviously productive so D’s will need to adjust. Looks like a good offense to have a piece of.

Still 8 targets for Terry.

Good problem for the Washington team to have 3 good WRs. Terry is still a good WR but expectations need to decreased because of the additional weapons at WR.
