WR Terry McLaurin, WAS (3 Viewers)

So in short, this should have been done months ago but Terry’s agent is a moron. Peters stuck to his guns and won the stare down. Handled it professionally, never said a negative word about him, just went about his business and then gave him a last call/take it or leave it this weekend. It’s essentially a pay as you go deal.

This was the first big test for Peters and he absolutely aced it. Well done.

It’s been suggested (not totally confirmed) that he’s been at the bubble every morning with Jayden running routes. Today should be his first practice.

My own hunch is he may not see his usual number of snaps the first two weeks (WAS plays on Thursday week 2). I would think if he survives soft tissue injuries for those weeks, it’s back to normal for him. I’d ding him just a little for fantasy if still drafting but not much. Like slide him to the bottom of whatever tier you have him in.
 
Obviously a very team friendly deal. Low guaranteed $s and none in year 3. So it's really a 2 year deal. But it's good for Terry too. He puts lots of $s in his pocket so he doesn't have to worry about injury before his original contract ended. Seems this deal was available a long time ago if Terry's agent had taken it, but who knows. In the end it's a win/win and we have a much better Offense with him on the field.

He's never had a hammy injury that I can remember. That's what always worries me with WRs that have been sitting. So I think he starts off the season right where he left off.

Not sure anyone on this board said Terry had leverage. Not gonna look back, but certainly not me. On record that I would have made him play out this year then tagged him.

Brian Mitchell is the only one I ever heard on the radio say Terry had leverage. And that's cause he only sees the world from the eyes of a player.

Nah didn’t mean to imply you but yes, there were several saying he had the leverage. Some of the national guys like Orlovsky were saying the same. Hell I was just listening to an Establish the Run podcast that came out right after the deal was announced and Silva was saying he had the team by the balls and what a great deal he got blah blah.

Yeah, I found the claims in this thread to be odd that Terry was the one with more leverage. He had some, but not nearly as much as the team. Still, it's not like this is a bad deal for Terry. It's just not what he was reportedly asking for. But that's not really the best comparison point to determine if he got a good deal or not.

I assume Terry mostly cared about the guaranteed money in what is probably his chance to cash in on a huge deal. What the team probably cared most about is the yearly commitment and their desire to not be on the hook for many millions to a 33 year old declining receiver. I think they both got what they wanted. It just took a weird route that could have been much easier.

He was wise to take the deal because he was about to start losing game checks that could never be replaced but I also don’t think he got anything remotely close to what he wanted.

Think he bought what his agent was selling and expected to clear DK’s $60M by a good margin. Think the poor body language on the sideline this weekend reflected his true feelings and that he had a little ego death going through this. He did get more money than he was due, so it’s a successful result to some degree, it’s just that the histrionics were so unnecessary and it could have been done in time for the start of training camp if he’d just lived in reality. Instead he went to O.J. Land and made the whole thing so much more painful than it needed to be.

If he plays like Terry nobody will care moving forward but if he is rusty and/or catches an injury, he is going to public enemy number 1 around here so fast it will make his head spin. The radio waves and internets will not be his friend.

You also set a bar as "More than Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr" as reported by "several sources" as if that were a fact but without evidence.

There is zero proof that was even close to the ask and you're acting as if it is gospel truth.

And it seems like you are spiking the ball on the fact that he didn't get Ja'Marr or JJ money when no one in the world, I'm going to say with as much confidence as your assertion that includes Terry's camp, ever considered that a possibility.

Multiple reasonable people, in the national media and this thread, called a deal between Sutton & DK as the obvious landing spot and that's where it ended up; better than Sutton, and Tee Higgins too, and worse than DK.

Good for Terry, he's one of the easiest guys in the league to root for. He deserved to get paid and he got paid.

I guess that McLaurin jersey I’ve been wearing for six years was purely out of hostility.

Listen, I’m not going to spend time refuting someone randomly popping up going nuh-uh. The reporting I’ve mentioned is accurate. Period the end.

He deserved to get paid a little above market value and he got paid a little above market value. He made it a pain in the *** the whole way because he asked for 20% above the high end of a reasonable ask. This is confirmed by the result, which is essentially a year to year contract. I hope this helps and don’t have anything else to add.

The reporting you mentioned has limited attribution and is just as likely to be specious and leaked by ownership. Which is what I said when you were pushing that narrative weeks ago.

Not sure if this had been mentioned prior but only three receivers have had 5 consecutive 1000+ yard seasons in the last five seasons:
Tyreek
Evans

and Terry.

Feel like that's worth some cash especially since he didn't get to play with Brady or Mahomes like the other two.
 
I was surprised to see Terry had the highest snap count other than Daniels and the OL. He played 55 snaps (out of 70 total plays) and Deebo had 54. Last year, Terry played 80% of the offensive snaps and that's basically what he was at yesterday. So, that should be a good sign that Terry is physically ready.
 
Im trying to trade for Terry to pair with Daniels in one league. Would you go after Terry and not Deebo for rest of season? Deebo's durability history concerns me but he looks dangerous in this offense and how he is being utilized.

On that last drive that Deebo scored on, he sat in the flat on the 5 yard line for about 8 seconds. Wide open. Daniels was staring right at him. Not a defender within 5 yards on either side. I assume he would have just walked in.

But Daniels tucked and ran for 3 yards.

He’s a WR3 for me, and hard to sit in that spot and still think there’s going to be some games where he really pops. Today again was not that day so it’s frustrating.

Its still early...he has a great QB and they know how much they need him. Last week he should have had a TD, the replay clearly showed his knee never touched the ground. Similar play where Skattebo got his TD, but they took Terry's away.
 
Out this week and termed week-to-week, so doesn’t should very short term.

Is Deebo the only viable play in the passing offense? Maybe Ertz?
 
As confirmed by Keim, head coach Dan Quinn ruled McLaurin out for Sunday’s game due to a quad injury.
The team’s leader in receiving yards (149) tweaked his quad with 4:47 remaining in the third quarter of the team’s 41-24 Week 3 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The injury occurred after he attempted to stretch for what would have been a 57-yard touchdown, but Raiders corner Kyu Blu Kelly grabbed him while he was diving and contorting to stretch. Although it was initially deemed a touchdown, a review later deemed he was down at the 1-yard line.
McLaurin hasn’t missed a game since Week 16 of 2020, making this quite a rare occurrence.
