WR Tyler Lockett, TEN (1 Viewer)

For those that are rostering Tyler Lockett, are you doing so in redraft or keeper leagues? Also, how many teams are in your league? Finally, how many players are on each team? I'm trying to gauge the difference between optimism and fantasy players that are putting their "$ where their mouth is".
modified keeper league, 12 teams, 18 players on a team. He is my WR 6ETA: I have 8 RBs

Is this guy a player who'll be better in real life than fantasy? I'm high on his prospects to contribute to the team, not sure I want to rely on a seahawks receiver in fantasy.

If you think he's good in fantasy, what WR tier do you put him in? What group of people?

I think his max out is a bye week/injury filler that you're gambling on a big play for if you ever are forced to use him.

Baldwin led the Hawks with 825 yards receiving last year, and that was without Jimmy Graham being in town taking up more targets and more yards. I see Lockett's cap out around the same (800 yards?) but done with more home run balls and less week-to-week consistency.

On any given week he can see 4-38 as none of the bubble screens (which I expect a lot of) break for a big one, or 4-138 and 2 TDs as he does bust a bubble screen for 50 yards and takes the top off the defense for another 40+ yard TD.

Good luck picking when those weeks will be, but he'll have more upside than most injury/bye week fillers when your roster does need to swing for the fences and not look for that safe guy who "might get me 6 points."

He's not on last years Seahawks team. If he can improvise with Wilson when he's scrambling there is no limit to his upside. So many times Wilson was forced to run because his WR's couldn't get open last year.

Take away 60 rushing attempts from Russell Wilson and make them into passing attempts. (He'd still rush it 60 times in this hypothetical). At his 2014 YPA of 7.7 and passing total of 3475, you can easily see Wilson being a 4000 yard passer this year.

IMO by midseason it will be clear that Lockett is the best WR Seattle has. Not saying he's going to be a great redraft play this year. Most rookies are hit or miss. I think this doom and gloom because he plays in that offense are overblown though.

Golden Tate with Wilson:

2012: 45/688/7 receiving + 20 yards rushing

2013: 68/898/5 receiving + 31 yards rushing + 585 punt return yards + 57 kickoff return yards

Depends on league parameters where that sort of performance would rank, In default FBG scoring (non-PPR, no return yard points), he was WR #31 and WR #28, respectively.

Tate did that with Baldwin there, but no Graham. On the other hand, Wilson is better now, and IMO Seattle is likely to have considerably more pass attempts this season (only 405 and 420 team pass attempts in 2012-13).

WR30 seems like a reasonable expectation for this season, and there is still some upside in that ranking.

Guys don't confuse return leagues expectations with non-return leagues. In return leagues, he already has WR2 upside. In non-return leagues, he's a hail mary play for 2015.

Would you guys say he's a must add in a 10 team re-draft return league?

Probably could be a good flex play to go with the start 2RB/3WR/1Flex, right?

Talent will win out. If the guy has enough talent...he'll get his regardless of Seattle's offensive philosophies. If he's a guy that doesn't have enough talent to force Seattle to "amend" their philosophies...he'll be a weekly crapshoot as you're living off of limited touches with his abilities to make the most of them.

A 10-team league? He shouldn't be rostered unless you start 4 WR, not yet. I think he is the perfect guy for a big bench, 16-team league where you have room to wait for lightning in a bottle.

Eta: now I see returns mentioned in your post. OK, maybe worth a spot but not a must-add.

I've got Lockett as my WR6 in a 12-team redraft league, with .02 points for every return yard plus TD points. Start two WRs and one Flex, but only seven slots on the bench.

Worth a flyer just to see how he does in this scoring format.

I'm rolling the dice to see if his talent wins out. He was ranked # 2187 or something...way, way down the line. Picked him up in the last round, second to last pick. He could be the biggest mover this year. Break out player of the year? Now Seattle is a run-oriented offense, but Lockett is fast and could stretch the opposing defenses. I could see any occasional TD or 4 or 5 to go along with a decent 4-5 grabs and 70-80 yards here and there. If so, Carroll will use him even more... upside

I doubt three people in this thread have ever watched Lockett play in an actual game of value. It's ludicrous to try and project stats for an unknown quantity.

Bottom line is he's a rookie, he looks good in camp, he's starting, and that's about all we know.

Dynasty, 16 teams/16-man rosters.

Missed him in a 12-team/18-man redraft.

Considering whether he's worth a flyer as wr5 in a 10-team redraft.

I've watched him plenty. See my post at the bottom of page 3. But realistically he's prob nothing more than a WR3 with WR2 upside this season, and that's being pretty optimistic.

In a league that rewards return yardage, I am all in... I really think Lockett is going to bust the myth that a Seahawks WR can't be relevant. He is my WR5 - I like the odds at that price.

12 team redraft, 2 keepers from 4th round on only, No PPR or return yards.

Just to give others a gauge of what another person who sees his upside and has been teetering on adding himis doing, I can't bring myself to drop any of my current WRs for him:

AJ Green (duh)

Larry Fitzgerald (hoping for a renaissance year from Larry)

Anquan Boldin (think he's safe for 900 and 6)

Marques Colston (think he's safe for 900 and maybe 7 or 8)

Nelson Agholor (think he'll go 1,000+ as a rookie)

Davante Parker (think he'll have a big second 2/3 of the season and be a potential late round keeper next year)

Marvin Jones (don't have him pegged for any more than 800 yards or so, but see 8+ TD potential)

I've got him in all four of my dynasty leagues where we get punt and kick return points. He's on the WW in all four of my redraft leagues 12 team, 16 man rosters.

ETA: I just dropped Teddy B. (my back-up behind Ryan) for Lockett in a redraft.

What the same league scoring with B. Quick?

I rarely roster middle of the pack players (Fitz, Boldin, Colston, Jones). I want studs and high ceiling prospects. If you were unable to get a couple studs, then yes I would take one or two of the above to fill out my roster....but I'm going to leave spots open for guys like Lockett for their potential production. Will the four guys above score more than Lockett? Probably, but I will pick the Lockett's of this world every time because the reward is much higher if he hits. Don't use average but safe picks with your bench spots. Fill it with lottery tickets.

Well said... I look at that list and think "who is the guy most likely to stay on the bench?" I drop him for the high upside ticket.

Rotoworld:

ESPN Seahawks reporter Sheil Kapadia wouldn’t be surprised if rookie Tyler Lockett "plays a significant role" in Week 1.

OC Darrell Bevell admitted earlier this week Lockett is "light-years ahead" of where the team expected him. He should start in three-wide sets against the Rams, playing both outside and the slot. Lockett is behind Jimmy Graham and Doug Baldwin for targets, but has potential for an early-season impact.

I play the same way as you. I fill my bench,if deep, with lottery guys like Lockett,Coleman,Montgomery/Janis(Who knows if Cobbs AC sprain gets worse).Lockett is deff worth the gamble. You never know who the next ww gem is.Nothing worse than having to spend all your $$$ on him,or hope he slides in waivers if your low in the waiver order. I say grab him now! Upside could be huge.

21.9 points at the half.

On my bench.

:wall:

Lockett's snap count yesterday on offense:

58/83 or 70%. That doesn't count special teams.

By way of comparison, Amari Cooper had 56/66 or 85%

Great news! Was wondering his snap count. That is high! Anyone have snap counts for all the WR? Guessing he was second only to Baldwin in %?

Didn't watch game, I read that Rams started kicking away from him? Is that true? Seems insane that he'd get Hester Treatment after one half of career NFL football. But if people do start kicking away that puts a big dent in his value for return yard leagues (he stated, obviously).

Yes, but he also had two TD returns in the preseason. That's three return TDs in four games (NOTE: Lockett didn't return kicks in the fourth week of preseason). Sign me up as a believer.

Pete Carroll quote on Lockett:

(On if he has been surprised at how much Tyler Lockett has been able to play at receiver) “Yeah, he got a bunch of plays this weekend, I think around fifty-something. I would say, yeah I think I’m surprised at that much. The game called for a lot of three receivers and all that, probably didn’t come into the season thinking he would be that active, but he’s been fantastic and he’s so supremely conditioned and all. He’s just worked so hard, it’s not a big deal to him at all. So he’s kind of just a regular part of the offense now. I really think he’s a receiver that’s returning kicks. We thought of him probably, ‘we’ll figure that other part out, let’s get him to be the returner,’ and we went about it that way, and he took it over and showed us that we need to think the other way.”
